Introduction
This document is intended to be used as a guide by individual Lotteries Houses for the purposes of creating a consistent and recognisable Lotterywest supported suite of branding and signage.
Lotterywest supports a wide range of community projects and organisations thorough Lotterywest grants and the Lotterywest supported badge is often applied to highlight our support for these projects and groups. In the case of Lotteries Houses and other major projects where Lotterywest is the principal supporter, Lotterywest may ask that the project incorporates signage and branding which clearly identifies this as a Lotterywest initiative. This document provides detailed guidelines on how the Lotterywest supported brand should be used in Lotteries Houses and other projects presented as Lotterywest initiatives. The guidelines cover the main forms of signage likely to be required in such projects. The designs in this document have been developed to complement other applications of the Lotterywest brand such as in Lotterywest outlets and in Lotterywests promotional material.
Contents
The following is a list of the contents of this document and a brief explanation of each section: Lotterywest supported graphic style The basic graphic styles to be used for Lotterywest supported branding and Lotteries House naming. Fonts and colours The fonts and colours to be used within Lotterywest supported branding and signage. Configuration options Examples of how the Lotterywest supported brand and Lotteries House name can be combined within differently proportioned areas. Proportioning models with and without colour separation The graphic styles are based on proportional formulas, not on fixed measurements. These are examples of how the Lotterywest supported brand and Lotteries House name can be differently proportioned. Specific Signage Designs Designs for specific types of signs:
2. Monolith Signs (square and elliptical versions) As per the pylon sign but at a more human scale. A more robust structure to withstand the increased probability of vandalism.
9. Directional Sign An optional sign style that can be used for various nonbranded signs within a Lotteries House. 10. Window Decals
3. Environmental sign for parks and public spaces A simple and robust pole type sign. 4. Interior Branding Plaque A simple Lotterywest supported plaque for use in foyers or meeting rooms. 5. Exterior Branding plaque A simple Lotterywest supported plaque for use on building exteriors. 6. Wall Sign A sign to be used behind reception desks or on a prominent wall within a foyer. 7. Commemorative Plaque An engraved metal plaque permanently fixed to the outside of a Lotteries House commemorating the date of opening. 8. Directory Board
A frosted transparency for use on glass doors and windows, preferably legible from the exterior of a room or building. Lotterywest can supply 300mm x 145mm decals in two styles: Externally applied for tinted glass For clear glass applied to the interior surface. Co branding Guidelines and layouts showing how other sponsors brands or logos should be incorporated into Lotterywest supported signage. Working with other materials Guidelines and layouts showing how the Lotterywest supported and Lotteries House graphic style can be interpreted for use on different background materials. Material specifications A brief specification for the materials used within the signage system to ensure an appropriate level of quality for all signage.
1. Pylon Sign (square and elliptical versions) A tall sign with an internally illuminated lightbox at the top. Good for visibility from a distance. Displays the Lotteries House name and Lotterywest supported brand only.
A design for the header of a sign listing all the tenants located within a Lotteries House.
Design Principles The signage system created for Lotteries Houses has been developed with a variety of sign types and sizes to cater for a wide range of situations and sign types. It has been based on several simple principles: The Lotterywest supported brand should always appear to be supporting the Lotteries House name. The Lotterywest supported logo should sit against a white background whenever possible. The Lotteries House name should sit against a Lotterywest teal background when possible Metalwork used to support a sign should be silver in finish. The finish should be integral to the metal and not an added finish (i.e., paint). A good guiding principle for creating effective branding and signage is to do as little signage as is required to effectively communicate the information. If signage is appropriately sized, clear and well positioned the amount of signage required to communicate can be reduced. Signage companies or designers should be consulted when developing a signage plan for a Lotteries House. Please note that before any of the items in this document are incorporated into a specific project Lotterywest must approve the design of each of these items.
Where the Lotterywest supported logo is to be displayed with no other information it is to be applied to a square white plaque. See item 04 + 05 for additional information
Where the Lotterywest supported logo is to be displayed with the name of the Lotteries House it is to be contained within a white band. The Lotteries House name is to be displayed within an area of the Lotterywest teal and the text is to be in white.
Contained within this document are alternative formats and options for application. 5

This section outlines the manufacturing standards and practices that are to be adhered to in the production of this signage system. Codes and Standards All work and materials shall, except where otherwise noted on the drawings or directed in the specifications, comply with the latest editions of all relevant Australian codes or standards. Acrylic The acrylic should be cast sheet, UV stablised and have a minimum 5 year warrantee. Aluminium Some sign faces are specified to be manufactured in 2-pac painted aluminium. Fixings All exterior fixings are to be 304 grade stainless steel. Galvanised fixings may be used for interior signs not exposed to weather conditions. In general fixings must not be visible but where fixings are required for access or maintenance they should be countersunk, allenhead screws coloured to match the surrounding part of the sign. Where signs are installed in a location considered to be vulnerable to vandal attack tamper proof screws, such as snake eye heads, should be used. The size of the selected fixing should be no larger than that required for the task and of the minimum number required for the task. In other words fixing should not be over engineered to maintain the intended visual balance of the signs. Illumination Illumination of the signs is specified as internal illumination. The signage manufacturer must ensure sign faces have no hot spots when illuminated. All lighting must be manufactured and installed in accordance with the relevant Australian Standards. Applied Graphics If completed on site, the installation must be carried out by a professional sign company. Application should be completed as per the manufacturers instructions to the graphic layout indicated in the detail drawings. Where graphics are not manufactured in self adhesive vinyl or held in place by mechanical fixings silicone may be used as the preferred adhesive. If silicone will not provide adequate bonding Liquid Nails or VHB double sided tape may be used. Positioning of signs Freestanding signs are to be located without creating interference to surrounding traffic/pedestrian flow or to any other component/equipment. Wall mounted signs should be located on a solid even background. Door mounted signs must not cover or interfere with door hardware.
