Best Shots Photo Contest
You wont want to miss the Best Shots photo contest display in the Experience CEA booth in the Grand Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) at the 2014 International CES. CEA, in partnership with olloclip and Independent Photo Imagers (IPI), hosted a digital photo contest to encourage consumers to share and display their great photos. Winners will be announced via social media on January 10 at the close of the 2014 International CES. You can cast your vote starting January 7 at CE.org/BestShots. Photos were submitted from November 15 through December 16, 2013, in ve categories: people, travel, pets, food and mobile shots. A judging panel of imaging industry representatives and experts chose the nalists. The online vote to determine winners opens January 7, 2014 and all nalist photos will be on display in the Grand Lobby in the Experience CEA booth. The grand prize winner will receive a Nikon D5200 digital SLR camera. Top winners in each category will win one of ve compact point-and-shoot cameras from various camera brands. Additionally, ve olloclip 3-in-1 lens will be given as honorable mention prizes. Olloclip makes innovative tools for mobile photography. The agship product is a 3-in-1 lens solution (sheye, wide-angle, macro) for the iPhone and iPod touch. Easy and versatile, olloclip products have attracted a legion of users worldwide and are sold in Apple stores and online retailers. Check out their exhibit space in the LVCC, North Hall, 6020. For more information and to view the photo entries, please visit CE.org/BestShots. The study found that when it comes to printing, two in three online U.S. adult photographers print at least one photo in a typical month. Additionally, 42 percent estimate they spend more than $25 each year to print photos, exhibiting a steady demand for printing. However, online U.S. adult smartphone and point-and-shoot photographers are less satised with their current capabilities for printing photos. Among primary smartphone and basic point-and-shoot photographers, editing photos is another pain-point. Consumers who primarily use their smartphones or point-and-shoot cameras for photos are less likely to be satised with current editing capabilities. Furthermore, 63 percent of photographers express interest in built-in editing apps on cameras, indicating an opening for more interactive camera options. These insights and more can be found in the complete report. For more information, visit research.CE.org.

DI Symposium at CE Week Brings Together the Industry

CEA in partnership with Digital Imaging Reporter and the Photoimaging Manufacturers and Distributors Association (PMDA) sponsored the rst DI Symposium during CE Week in New York City on Monday, June 24 at the Apella in the Alexandria Center. The symposium presented a diverse view, from The Voices that Shape Our Industry to The Voices of Innovation. Speakers and panelists from all aspects of the digital imaging community were able to explore innovation, new consumer behaviors, retailer issues, governmental issues, opportunities in HD video and an exploration into Digital Image databases. After a full-day event the evening culminated with a networking cocktail reception sponsored by CEA.

A key initiative of Consumer Electronics Associations (CEA) Digital Imaging Division is improving digital imaging market comprehension among key constituents through CEA-sponsored research projects. Each year the division chooses an important topic and CEAs market research team delves into creating a comprehensive, actionable report. CEAs 2013 study, Digital Imaging Photo Sharing and Printing, revealed that photographers across the U.S. can be segmented into two major groups primary smartphone users and primary point-andshoot users but a gap exists between device usage and satisfaction in terms of printing and editing. The study found photographers across the U.S. still enjoy the permanence that print photographs offer for memorializing personal occasions, providing an opportunity for consumer adoption (or re-adoption) of point-and-shoot or digital single lens reex (DSLR) cameras with multi-purpose options such as in-camera editing and printing, and Wi-Fi connectivity to expedite photo sharing and archiving.
