Management Department
Course Title: Operations Research (OR) / Management Science (MS) Course Code: MGT - 321 Credit Hours: 3hrs/week Instructors Name: Fikremariam A.
___________________________________________________________________________________________

Course Description:

Operations Research (OR) / Management Science (MS) has many applications in science,

engineering, economics, and other disciplines, and thus the ability to solve OR/MS problems is crucial for both researchers and practitioners. Operations Research (OR) / Management Science (MS) Provides methodology for many managerial decision problems and this Methodology is appropriate to some but very important problems. Being able to solve the real life problems and obtaining the right solution requires understanding and modeling the problem correctly and applying appropriate optimization tools and skills to solve the mathematical model. The goal of this course is to teach students to formulate, analyze, and solve mathematical models that represent real-world problems. In particular, the course will cover Linear Programming Problems, Transportation and Assignment Problems, Decision Analysis and Game Theory, Network Flow Problems, Project Management and Queuing models.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
Formulate a real-world problem as a mathematical linear programming model Understand the theoretical workings of the simplex method for linear programming and perform its iterations by hand. Perform sensitivity analysis to determine the direction and magnitude of change of a model's optimal solution as the data changed. Solve specialized linear programming problems like the transportation and assignment problems. Solve network models like the shortest path, minimum spanning tree, and maximum flow problems. Model a dynamic system as a queuing model and compute important performance measures.
