If you are thinking about working in the creative media sector it is important that you understand how it is structured, what types of jobs are available, what they involve, and how they might be obtained. In this assignment you will gain an understanding of the sector and the ways in which it is organised. You will learn how the sector is structured as a whole and about the structure of individual companies in a specific industry within the sector.

To achieve a merit grade the evidence must show that, in addition to the pass criteria, the learner is able to: describe the structure of the creative media sector with some detail and with appropriate illustrative examples. Talksport Talksport is a radio show and channel that is based upon sport. The station covers sports discussion, match commentary, quizzes, news, and dedicated sports news. It first started broadcasting in 17th January 2000 and is owned by UTV Radio and is one of the United Kingdom's three terrestrial analogue Independent National Radio broadcasters. On 2 April 2012, Talksport became a 24 hour sports station. The station is based in Hatfields London. Talksport covers a range of sports including: Football, Cricket, Rugby, Boxing, Horse Racing, Golf, Athletics and more. It is a commercial radio station so they host adverts to gain money in order to finance the company. Most of the adverts are for building companies such as Screw Fix or domestic vans and the adverts are designed to most appeal to manual labourers who are the target audience for the radio station. You can listen to the station anywhere in the world via digital radio and if you have a computer you can go on to the internet and reach it via the station website. If you have smart mobile devices such as an Android or iPhone you can download the Talksport App or use the TuneIn Radio App to listen to the show. As it is a digital station you can also listen on Freeview, Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat. The station is the world biggest sports station in the world with a UK audience of about 3.25m. They have tried to increase the amount of white collar audience and some of the presenters, commenters and guests are former sportsmen who provide expert comment on the station. For example Alan Brazil is a former footballer who is presents the morning show. His guests are Brian Moore who is a former England rugby player, David Ginola who is footballer who played for France, Newcastle and Tottenham. They give expert views on the upcoming sport in the week. Stan Collymore is former footballer who commentates on football matches and analyses

after match action. All shows have a news report on the hour as well as weather and traffic reports. Alan Brazil also likes to comment of news events and tends to be controversial.

UTVMedia is a broadcasting company that is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. They own UTVRadio who in turn own Talksport and several other radio stations in the United Kingdom. UTVMedia operate the ITV network across Northern Ireland. The Company used to be called Ulster Television but the company changed its name to UTV plc and after some business dealings they formed a new company called UTV media. UTV is now the only independent television contractor left; the other twelve original independent companies are now part of ITV plc and STV plc. In 2015 will start UTV Ireland which will broadcast in Eire. UTVMedia Radio Company is called UTVRadio and they are the fifth largest radio group in the UK. They own several radio stations around United Kingdom and Ireland; here is a list of the stations that they own: Talksport , Juice Fm , Signal 107 , Peak FM , Tower FM , Wire FM , Wish Fm , Radio Wave 96.5 , 96.4 Wave , Signal 1 , The Pulse of West Yorkshire , Swansea Sound , Signal 2 , Pulse Two , Stoke Stafford , Swansea SW Wales , UTV-Bauer West Yorkshire. Each of the stations broadcasts a mix of classic and chart music hits. They use something called a playlist; this is a list of music that they must play throughout the day. The playlist will be different depending on the type of people the radio station is trying to get to listen. If it is mostly young people the playlist will mostly be current hits; if it is older people the playlist will be made up of more classic music such as classic rock music like the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Eagles. They also have their own internet services called UTV Internet which is available to people who lived in Northern Ireland and Eire but you can also get it in Britain as well.
