M. Strait|4 Efforts to Improve Academic Status:

According to their website, Marshall Elementary Schools that they the 2012-2013 academic year began with change, an entirely new leadership team. While this team also demonstrates compassion and determination, the bigger focus is on developing Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and providing teachers with expertise on understanding and tracking data to inform instruction. The PLCs are centered on the data team process, intervention, and the use of PBIS to maintain and support classroom management. It is through this improved team that they will strengthen education and motivating students to learn.

Condition, Location, and Neighborhood of the School Description: Marshall Elementary School is located in a quiet suburban neighborhood. Born and raised in Orangeburg, SC and also having attended this school, I find that Marshalls location is ideal because of the lack of traffic. There are three entrances/exits to get to the school, which reduces the amount of traffic during students arrival and departure.

M. Strait|5 Condition and Appearance of the School: Marshall Elementary School is standing in great condition. The school prides itself on being clean and presentable. As far as I know, there are not any maintenance issues. The school actually looks the same as when I was attending. Condition and Location of Classroom: Ms. Waymyers classroom is located on the newer part of the school. It is down the hall from the music classroom. Although the music from the music classroom could sometimes be a distraction, I believe the teachers have gotten accustomed to the bass from the instruments. The classrooms on this hall have various grade levels, second, third, fourth, fifth, and music education. Ms. Waymyers classroom appeared very neat and decorative. She has zebra print curtains on the

windows and ample books for students to read. Her work is very organized, which increases consistency within the classroom. For example, the students know that when they enter they must place their belongings on the cubbies, sharpen their pencils, and look at their classroom agenda for their activities. She also has a bulletin board that encourages students to aim for proficiency in their work.
