Exploratory Test Session – 6 for WireMaster v0.

46

Test Mission: To find the information of which (might) trouble and seems like a problem to
the user while using WireMaster v0.46.

Model under Test: WireMaster v0.46 | http://sourceforge.net/projects/wiremaster/

Tester: Ravisuriya
Session-ID: 15thAug2009-s6
Test Machine: Windows XP SP3 | English US
Start Test Date and Time: 18th August 2009 9:15 PM.
End Test Date and Time: 18th August 2009 10:27 AM.

Observations or Information:
----------------------------------

1. Started with the menu tour; found no ‘About’ dialog and no technical support
information availability mentioned in the GUI of model under test.

2. Found no option to undo, redo, delete, copy, cut and paste in menu and as well as in the
menu displayed on right click of the mouse. Right click of the mouse showed Add Annotation,
Edit Annotation and Remove Annotation.

3. If added same component more than once in the diagramming area, the dialog
Component Properties did show the label with same text. In this context scenario, added two
containers and observed the label field in the Component Properties dialog. It displayed text
‘Container’ for each added container.

>> If there are more than ten container components in the diagramming area, this behavior
might be confusing. If the unique ID is given to each container like Container 001 or much
better than this, might help user. This also might improve the usability, efficiency and
reliability of model under test.

4. Selecting Calendar in diagramming Calendar, did not show the name in the ‘label’ field
of Component Properties.

5. How to connect two Containers? If I design one container as a page, how could I
connect it to other page in a same wireframe diagram?

6. Should only one page be designed in the diagramming at a given point of time? Doing
this might become the limitation of the model under test. What if the user wants to two or
more page in the same diagramming area and need to connect them in the navigation by
mentioning the business rules?

7. Appears like Container, Text Field and Text Area can be confusing if their labels are
changed. Since changing label name (with same name or different name) and resizing its
boundaries -- either container or text field or text area can appear to be similar. Below picture
tells this.

>> Providing unique boundary structure or shape for each component might increase the
reliability of model under test.

8. Looks like there is no validation for the field ‘label’ in the dialog Component Properties.
Entering more than 9991 characters was entered. And observed model under test went to state
where it did not respond for any user action. The CPU consumption from the model under test
with context scenario was at maximum i.e., 100%. This remained for 30 minutes and more. It
did not come down. Needed to kill the instance of model under test. Picture – 7a shows this.
Machine went to controllable state and screen appeared to go blank and later looking at the
GUI of model under test it looked as in picture – 7b.

Picture – 7a

Picture – 7b

>> It was one among the show stoppers that was witnessed.

9. Appears to the user as more than one cursor or line in between the each alphabet letters
in the field of Component Properties dialog.

>> The above pictures have data that was not readable and understandable by testers. Such
behavior of model under test might have huge cost on the vendor.

10. If chosen the ‘Hand Drawn’ as rendering style – the checkbox dragged and dropped in
the diagramming area appears to change its shape when moved over other components
available in the diagramming area or while dragging and dropping another component to the
diagramming area. This behavior is not seen in other components.

11. The progress bar can be confusing if enlarged. It appears to have one filled block with
color that appears to be black. But the progress bar in the icon will have chunks of such block.

>> The progress bar in toolbar has chunks of block which appears to filled by green-in-color.
When the progress bar component is dragged into diagramming area only one such block can
be seen which appears to be filled by black-in-color. In above picture a progress bar just drag
and dropped, while the other is progress bar with the enlarged boundaries. Is this structure of
progress bar will be confusing to the user?
