This Users Guide contains the information necessary to install and get a basic understanding of how to use TETRA Customer Programming Software (CPS). The TETRA CPS is a PC-based software programme from Motorola that is used to program features into TETRA terminals to customise their operation.

WHO SHOULD USE THIS GUIDE

Note: This guide assumes that you are familiar with basic Windows operations. If this is not the case, be sure to read the documentation that came with your version of Windows before you proceed. This Guide is intended for anyone who will use the CPS to program TETRA terminals.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN THIS GUIDE

This guide is organised as follows: Section 1 describes the CPS installation process. Section 2 explains the hardware setup required to program TETRA terminals. Section 3 provides an overview of the CPS. It shows you how to obtain on-line help and navigate through the user interface.

Section 1: Installing the Software

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Note: The CPS allows you to keep multiple codeplug windows open simultaneously. The number of codeplug windows that can remain open at any given time is determined by the amount of memory available to the CPS. The TETRA CPS requires an IBM PC or compatible computer with the following minimum configuration:
Processor: Memory (RAM): RS-232 Serial port: Minimal configuration, and to programme one terminal at a time: Pentium 1 GHz. OR, For multiple terminal programming at the same time: Pentium 2GHz or above. Minimal configuration, and to programme one terminal at a time: 256 MB. OR, For multiple terminal programming at the same time: 512 MB or above.

INSTALLING THE CPS

Do not delete or move any files installed with the CPS. They are required to run the CPS. Follow the steps below to install the CPS on your hard drive: 1 2 3 Note: If the Autorun screen is deactivated, start the Explorer. Navigate to the CD folder called Autorun. Double click on autorun.exe. 4 Quit all Windows applications to ensure a successful installation. Insert the CD-ROM into its drive. The Autorun screen appears. Select Install CPS from the screen. The setup programme will run InstallShield wizard to guide you through the installation process. If a version of the CPS already exists on your computer, you will be prompted if you want to remove/upgrade that version. We recommend that you remove the existing version only if it is no longer needed. Any files that you may have saved to the existing CPS directory will not be deleted during the remove process. If you choose to upgrade, the CPS will be automatically installed at its previous location. It is recommended to restart the computer for a correct functioning of the CPS. 5 6 When the Welcome screen appears, read the instructions and click Next. Read the Click-Through Software Licence Agreement (Agreement) completely. By selecting the I Accept button at the end of the page, you indicate that you accept the terms of this Agreement. You may then install the Software. In the Choose Destination Location screen, click Next to install the CPS in the default location. To select a different installation directory, click the Browse button. 5 1 Installing the Software

Select the desired Programme Folder name for describing the CPS in the Windows Start menu. Click Next. You will be prompted to create a desktop shortcut to the CPS. Click Yes to create the shortcut. Select the shortcut name. Click Next to begin the installation. When the setup is complete, you can choose to read the readme.txt file. Then click Finish to exit setup.

10 11 Note: It is recommended to always read the readme.txt file for the latest updates.

WEB UPGRADE
Note: Web upgrade is available only for certain CPS products. Please check with your local customer service representative for availability of web upgrade. Web upgrade allows existing customers of previous CPS versions to download and install the latest CPS executable. This upgrade facility only works for those customers who have previously purchased an original CPS copy. Therefore, if this CPS upgrade is downloaded without an existing full CPS installation on the computer, the CPS upgrade will neither install nor operate. The web upgrade will overwrite any last installed CPSs if the user has multiple versions on his/her computer. Follow the steps below to install the CPS executable on your hard drive: 1 2 3 Do not delete or move any files installed with the CPS. They are required to run the CPS. 4 5 6 Quit all Windows applications to ensure a successful installation. Enter the web, and then enter the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) provided by your local customer service representative. Click the CPS executable and save the file to your hard drive. Click the *.exe file. The setup programme will run InstallShield wizard to guide you through the installation process. Click Next. Read the Click-Through Software Licence Agreement (Agreement) completely. By selecting the I Accept button at the end of the page, you indicate that you accept the terms of this Agreement. You may then install the software. If multiple versions are installed on your computer, the CPS executable will overwrite the last version installed on the computer. 7 When the setup is complete, click Finish to exit setup. 7 1 Installing the Software

FEATURE ENABLING
Whenever a feature paid flag is disabled, the CPS disables access to the fields belonging to separately priced features. Some TETRA features (e.g.: WAP or GPS) are separately priced in terminals. The customer who has paid either for a single feature or for a number of features receives the Feature Enable kit, i.e. the Customer CPS and a dongle (Feature Enable Dongle) that contains information about the total number of enables per feature. Feature enabling can be performed on one or more terminals simultaneously all in one operation. Proceed as follows: 1. Connect the terminal to the PC as described in the terminals hardware set-up. The terminals codeplug contains special block for keeping the list of feature paid flags, each of which corresponds to a separately paid feature. 2. Connect the Feature Enable dongle to the PC. 3. Run the CPS. 4. Enter the Administrator password.

5. Select Tools/Enable Feature. The Enable Feature dialogue opens up and displays information related to the dongle and the terminal attached to the currently active port.

6. Enable the check box next to the feature you have paid. 7. Click Burn. Each counter will be decreased each time you enable one of the features you have ordered. 9 1 Installing the Software

8. The CPS scans communication ports and detects the terminal that is connected to the port. The Operation Results message appears and displays the result of operations per each port. Click Continue button. 9. The CPS will display the operation result for each terminal. Please note: Lets say you enabled all the paid features in a dongle and you connected several terminals for simultaneous feature enabling. Some features may not have been paid for some of the terminals or may already have been enabled. The Customer CPS will automatically detect which features were paid or enabled for each terminal and will not decrease the counter.

STARTING THE CPS

Note: CPS requires a password to log in. The CPS supports the Motorola organiser and carrier levels. The carrier level provides more CPS capabilities than the organiser level. The screens shown as typical examples in this guide belong to the carrier level. CPS Level

Launch the CPS from the Windows Start menu, or double-click the desktop shortcut. You will be prompted with the following Login dialogue box. Enter the required information.

Enter default password (case sensitive): user (for User), or admin (for Administrator)

Press OK. If the entered password is incorrect, you will be prompted to enter it again.

To close the CPS, click Cancel. To change password, click Change Password. Select password level (User or Administrator). Enter old password, then new password, and confirm new password. If the old password is incorrect, repeat all inputs. If the password was changed successfully, it is stored in registry and the default password becomes irrelevant.

VERIFYING THE INSTALLATION

Once the CPS is installed, verify that the installation was successful. Select Help/About CPS... Verify CPS version number, programming level, and Motorola CPS part number. Click Details... for further information on: database version, supported model, current codeplug version, current software version, model number, and model type. Click OK, and OK again to return to the screen shown below.

Before you proceed, make sure you have all the necessary hardware from the list on page 88. The programming cable interfaces between the terminal and an IBM PC (or compatible computer) running the TETRA CPS. Use the cable with the software item listed in Appendix E. Supported Models section on page 85.

Note: The CPS will display the Phone Detected message if communication is established. Otherwise you will need to check connections and try again.

Make sure that you are using a fully charged battery in the terminal prior to running the CPS. This will ensure that the unit does not power down during programming.

HARDWARE SETUP: MTH800

To perform the programming, proceed as follows: 1 2 3 Turn the terminal off. Connect the programming cable as illustrated on page 16. Remove and reinstall the terminals battery. If using a programming cable without switch, press buttons 1, 9, and Power On simultaneously. This automatically establishes communication with the terminal. 4 Run the Customer Programming Software (CPS) on your computer. The programming cable interfaces between the terminal and an IBM PC (or compatible computer) running the TETRA CPS. Select Tools/Options. Change the Communication setting according to the connection you are using for the programming cable. Start desired CPS operation. For example, select File/Read Phone. The terminal automatically turns on. Its screen stays dark. After initialisation of communication the terminal screen shows communication parameters. Follow the instructions on your PC.

When you see this error message on your PC screen, do the following: 1 2 3 Power off the terminal. Connect the programming cable as illustrated in the previous pages. Remove and reinstall the terminals battery. Change the Communication setting according to the connection you are using for the programming cable. Start desired CPS operation. For example, select File/Read Phone. Note: Junction Box GMLN3002 assists the installation of dash and remote mount configuration. The junction box provides connection for radio programming using cable FLN9636. For cabling see Junction Box Installation manual 6866537D62. To perform the programming, proceed as follows: 1 2 Make sure the terminal is switched off. Connect the programming cable as illustrated on pages 20 to 22. The programming cable interfaces between the mobile terminal and an IBM PC (or compatible computer) running the TETRA CPS. If a standard control head is attached, switch on the terminal. In case of a motorcycle model, remove the control head from the 25-pin connector of the expansion head and treat like expansion head only. The terminal screen stays dark. If your terminal has only an expansion head without any control head, connect pin 6 to pin 14 on the 25 pin connector on the expansion head front to switch on the terminal and to enter programming mode. Run the Customer Programming Software (CPS) on your computer. Select Tools/Options. Change the Communication setting according to the computer serial port you are using for the programming cable. Start desired CPS operation. For example, select File/Read Phone. The terminal screen stays dark. Follow the instructions on your PC.

After programming, remove the programming cable and in case you connected pin 6 to pin 14 on the 25 pin connector, remove this connection. If the terminal does not switch on automatically or cannot be switched on using the On/Off knob or the Ignition input (pin 10 on the accessory connector), disconnect the terminal from the power supply for about 2 seconds to exit the programming mode.

GETTING AROUND IN THE CPS

All CPS functions can be accessed using the menus, and some can be accessed using keyboard shortcuts as described on page 75. Data in the terminals codeplug block can be accessed from the tree and content view of the codeplug window. These methods of navigation are explained below.

There are six menus in the CPS, as shown below:

The Edit menu and some functions in other menus will be available only when a codeplug block is already open in the CPS or based on the context. For instance, the Copy function will be available only when you highlight item(s) that can be copied. Refer to the menu map on pages 73 and 74 to familiarise yourself with the functions you can perform from each menu.

USING THE TREE AND CONTENT VIEWS

When a codeplug is opened, the CPS will display its contents in a codeplug window. The codeplug window is divided into two areas the tree view and the content view which make it easy to view the codeplug structure, and view or modify field values. The illustration below shows the relationship between the tree and content views This column displays the field name. Highlight an item in the tree view to display its contents in the content view. Click on plus and minus signs to expand and collapse (that is, open and close) folders. This column displays the field value. CONTENT VIEW Click on an editable or initialisable field to modify the field value. This column contains a Reset button if a field is resettable. Clicking the button resets the field to its default value. If there is no entry in this column, the field cannot be initialised.

If you are new to the CPS, we suggest that you try these operations on a backup codeplug file until you become thoroughly familiar with the CPS. This tutorial provides an overview of the tasks you will perform most frequently using the CPS. Refer to the Help on Specific CPS Tasks section in the on-line help for a more comprehensive task list. Take a few moments now to review the CPS menus and the various features of the codeplug window. These are described in the Using the CPS section beginning on page 26. Then proceed to the next task. The CPS menu options refer to phones (for example: File/Read Phone) or radios (for example: Tools/Restore Radio), which stands for Motorola TETRA portable and mobile terminals.

BEFORE YOU START

1 2 3 Set up the programming hardware as described in Section 2: Setting Up the Hardware on page 14. Run the CPS, and login into the CPS. Then make sure the CPS is up and running as described on page 13. Select Tools/Options/Communication to check the setting in the Active Communication field. Position the cursor into the combo box, then drag it to the required communication mode: serial or USB. Serial Communication only. Click Look for radio to check which communication port has a connected terminal.

Note: Up to 16 phones can be connected to your PC serial communication ports. The port could be mounted on a PCMCIA multi-way serial board installed in a laptop, a multi-way serial PCI board for a desktop machine, or a USB-based serial board.

Set the communication speed to the required baud rate. Click Turn radio off after copy to return the terminal automatically to normal operation. Otherwise, you will have to do it manually (see page 56).

CONFIGURING THE LOGGING FEATURE

If logging is enabled, the CPS will automatically write statistical information to the log file. The statistical information are data on time, operation name, operation data and operation result for the functions activated by the user during the CPS sessions. Each record will correspond to an action the user performs. To enter the logging page, select Tools/Options/Logging. From the logging page you will be able to configure the logging feature and set up options for the log file.

Logging Mode Position the cursor into the combo box, then drag it to the required mode for the log file: ISSI & TEI (Individual Short Subscriber Identity & Terminal Equipment Identifier) and Normal Normal Off ISSI & TEI and Normal Logging Mode If you select that mode, then logging is similar to the one in Normal mode, and the CPS will also log any operation through all ports related to the ISSI and TEI codeplug fields into a special log file called cps_tei_issi.log. The logging of all operations will be enabled and performed according to the other logging page settings. Normal Logging Mode through One Port If you select the Normal mode for communication operations through one port only, the CPS will check whether or not the log file exists in the directory specified in the Log File Path field. If the file does not exist, the CPS will create the cps_user.log file. If the log file exists, new information will be recorded into it. The logging of all operations will be enabled and performed according to the other logging page settings.

Normal Logging Mode with Multi-port Operations If you select the Normal mode for communication operations through a number of ports simultaneously, then the recording of all log operation through the default port will be written into the cps_user.log file. The communication operations through other ports will be written: In the COM(X)_cps_user.log file, one file per COM port, where (X) will display the number of the appropriate port. OR, in the USB(X)_cps_user.log file, one file per USB port, where (X) will be the internal CPS order number of the appropriate port. For example, COM1_cps_user.log will be the log file for operations through port COM1, if this port is not the default one. The logging of all operations will be enabled and performs according to the other logging page settings. Off Mode If you select the Off mode, the logging of all operations will be disabled. If the log file(s) already exists, no operation will be recorded into it. Setting the Maximal Size of the Log File This setting will be the same for all log files. You can change the file size from 1 to 200 MB by entering a numerical value in the field or sliding the rule. 39 4 Tutorial

Log file Options Note: If the Log File Path is changed in the current session, the new path will be applied only in the next CPS session (after re-starting the CPS). To enable Write time and Write operation result, enable the required check boxes. If these options are selected, then new-recorded strings in the log file will contain also the time of function start and the operation result (pass or failed). Log File Path To setup a directory for the log file location, click Browse and navigate to the desired directory. To confirm your choice, click OK. The path will be written to the Log File Path field in the logging page.

OPENING A CODEPLUG FILE

If you wish to start by reading the codeplug from a phone, proceed to READING A CODEPLUG FILE FROM THE PHONE on page 44. To open an archive codeplug file from disk: 1 2 3 4 Select File/Open. In the File Open dialogue box, navigate to the drive and folder or directory where the codeplug file is located. Double-click the desired file name or highlight it and click OK. If the codeplug file is password-protected, the CPS will prompt you to enter the password to open the file. After the password is successfully entered, the CPS will display the codeplug window. Click on the (+) sign next to the Codeplug folder in the tree view. The codeplug window should look similar to the one on page 26.

PROTECTING THE CODEPLUG FILE WITH A PASSWORD

To prevent an unauthorised user from viewing or editing the codeplug file, you can protect it with a password. To set a codeplug file password: 1 2 If there is more than one open codeplug file, make the required codeplug file active by clicking on its title bar. Select File/Change Codeplug Password. The following screen will pop up. Enter the password (case sensitive), re-confirm, and click OK. Keep the codeplug password in a safe place.

Follow the same procedure to change a password. To remove the codeplug password, click Reset. All settings will be saved during write/save operations. If your codeplug is not password protected, but Protect Codeplug Saving check box is enabled in Tools/Options/General, the CPS will ask the user to protect the codeplug for Save, Save As, and Write codeplug tasks.

READING A CODEPLUG FILE FROM THE PHONE

To read a codeplug: 1 Select File/Read Phone.The CPS will show the progress of this task. When the read process is complete, the CPS will display the codeplug window. If the phone codeplug is password-protected, the CPS will prompt you to enter the password to open the file. After the password is successfully entered, the CPS will display the codeplug window. 2 Note: If task progress is not shown or an error occurs, go through the checklist in the Troubleshooting: Unable to Read Codeplug topic in the on-line help. 3 Click on the (+) sign next to the Codeplug folder in the tree view. The codeplug window should look similar to the one on page 26. When you have completed viewing the phone codeplug information using the CPS, select Tools/Power Off to return the phone to normal mode of operation. Another way of returning the phone to normal mode of operation is to disconnect it from the programming cable, and remove and then re-install the battery.

AUTOMATIC BACKUP OF CODEPLUG FILE

To avoid loss of data, the CPS automatically backs up all codeplug(s) read from phone(s) and currently in work. Backup files are located in the default path (configurable via Tools/ Options/Directories) and are named <Serial Number of the attached radio_version number of the radio codeplug>.cpd. The serial number is a unique identificator of the customers terminal. One terminal with a unique serial number might have several different backup files with different version numbers of the terminal codeplug. Backup files are extremely useful in restoring codeplugs that get corrupted or are inadvertently erased.

There are two types of field values: Black coloured field values which are pre-programmed at factory. You cannot change these values. Blue coloured field values. You can program these values. Depending on the fields, use one of the following ways to enter values: By clicking a check box. By positioning the cursor in the combo box and dragging it to the required value. TIP: Use the Find a Field feature in the Edit menu to easily locate a field in the current content view. Enter your search keyword and click Search. The CPS will locate the fields in the content view that contain the search keyword.Then select a field and click Find It to reach the field in the content view. EXAMPLE 1: CONFIGURING THE PHONE FEATURES In this example, you will program the phone to automatically resend an emergency alarm in case no acknowledgement arrived. You will set the number of retries to 3. 1 2 3 In the tree view, click on the plus (+) sign next to the TMO Voice Services folder icon. Click on the Emergency Options sub-block. The contents of this sub-block will be displayed in the content view. Locate the Emergency Alarm Retries field in the content view. To set the number of rings to 3, enter 3 in this field.

This is the same procedure that you will use to configure other features for the phone. . TIP: For help on a field, press F1 while the cursor is in that field. Or right-click the field and choose Help from the popup menu.

EXAMPLE 2: CONFIGURING THE CONTACT BOOK Note: You can use upper or lowercase characters, punctuation and extended foreign language characters such as in a Contacts List alias. The phone will display uppercase, lowercase and punctuation. In this example, you will add a couple of entries to the Contacts List. 1 2 3 Click on the plus (+) sign next to the Contact Book folder in the tree view. Highlight Contacts List in the tree view. The Contacts List spreadsheet will be displayed in the content view. Add the entries listed below to the Contacts List. Click on an empty row in the Contacts List and add the first contact number alias by typing LOCAL in the Name column. Then type 5551212 in the Home Number column. Repeat this procedure for the second entry. LOCAL OUT-OF-AREA 5551212 8005551212

TIPS: Cut, Copy, Paste, Undo, Redo, and Clear functions are available from the Edit menu. The Find function is available .from Edit/Find a Field and makes it possible to locate an entry in the current Contacts List that contains the search keyword. For a list of contact book editing shortcuts, refer to the Keyboard Shortcuts topic in the on-line help.

This completes the task. Contacts List entries can be added, modified or deleted as described here.

COPYING ENTRIES BETWEEN CODEPLUGS

Note: CPS copy and paste operations will function only under certain conditions. For instance, if you copy a set of cells and highlight another set of cells in which to paste them, the row and column sizes of the copied cells and the highlighted cells must match. Refer to the Copy and Paste Operations topic in the on-line help for details. The CPS makes it possible for you to copy entries from one codeplug to several other codeplugs. For the purpose of this example, you will copy the entries from the same codeplug file you used in the previous task. You will need a spare backup codeplug file to copy the entries to. (See page 50 for help on creating a backup codeplug file.) 1 2 3 Click on the Contact Book folder in the tree view to open the folder. Click on Contacts List in the tree view. The two entries from the previous example will be displayed in the content view. Click and drag the cursor across the two entries in the content view to highlight them. (To copy the entire Contacts List, highlight the desired type of list in the tree view. Then click the Copy button on the toolbar.) Note: If you paste the new entries over existing entries, the existing entries will be erased. 4 5 6 7 8 Select Edit/Copy. The highlighted entries will be copied to the clipboard. Select File/Open. Locate the spare backup codeplug and double-click on the file name to open it. When the file is opened, click on the Contact Book folder in the tree view. Click on the Contacts List. Click (that is, highlight) the cell in the codeplug content view where you want to begin pasting the entries from the clipboard. Select Edit/Paste to complete the operation.

SAVING A CODEPLUG FILE

Note: If your codeplug is not passwordprotected, but Protect Codeplug Saving check box is enabled in Tools/Options/ General, the CPS will ask the user to protect the codeplug for Save and Save As tasks. When you have finished programming the codeplug, make sure you save a copy to a hard disk or diskette before writing it to the phone. To save a codeplug file that is already open in the CPS: 1 2 TIP: If you wish to save the file under a different name, select File/Save As. Click on the title bar of the codeplug file to make it active. Select File/Save and the file will be saved automatically in the default data path (configurable via Tools/Options/Directories). If you select File/Save As, the File Save As dialogue box opens up. Navigate to the drive and folder where you want to save the file. Enter a new file name in the File name field and click OK to save the file. 3 If your codeplug is not password-protected, but Protect Codeplug Saving check box is enabled in Tools/Options/General, the CPS will ask the user to protect the codeplug for Save/Save As tasks.

Note: The CPS identifies codeplug files by their .cpd file name extension. If you do not use this extension when saving a codeplug file, the CPS will automatically add this extension to the file name when it saves the file.

Remember to save the original codeplug data before you make any changes, so that you can restore the phone to its original state if the programming goes wrong.

WRITING THE CODEPLUG TO THE PHONE

The Write Phone function writes the codeplug from the current CPS window to the phone while keeping the terminals tuning data intact. A codeplug read from one phone can only be written to that same phone using this process. 1 2 If multiple codeplugs are open in the CPS, make the correct source codeplug file active by clicking on its title bar. Select File/Write Phone. The CPS will show the progress of this task. If your codeplug is not password-protected, but Protect Codeplug Saving check box is enabled in Tools/Options/General, the CPS will ask the user to protect the codeplug for Write codeplug task.

Never disconnect the programming cable from the phone during the write operation. This will destroy your terminal.

TIP: Use Copy Wizard when you want to

clone multiple phones with the same set of codeplug data. The master codeplug is read from the master phone and activated in the CPS window. Connect the next phone(s) and start the Copy Wizard operation.

CLONING CODEPLUG TO THE PHONE(S) USING THE COPY WIZARD

With the CPS Copy Wizard function, you can clone your settings of codeplug data from a master codeplug, select the codeplug blocks to be copied, and write the codeplug data to one or more phones all in one operation. In this task, you will use the Copy Wizard to clone codeplug data to the phone(s). This function is allowed only for compatible phone models - i.e., phones belonging to the same frequency range and operating in the same network. For a list of clone groups, see Appendix D. Cross Model Multi-copy Wizard (Cloning) on page 79. 1 2 Read master codeplug from master phone, or open master codeplug file. Connect the phone(s) for which you need to clone master data. Set up the programming hardware as described in Section 2: Setting Up the Hardware on page 14. Select File/Copy Wizard. The first Copy Wizard dialogue box will be displayed. Click the appropriate check box to select the items you wish to copy. Or click Select All to select all the items. Click Next. The CPS will search for the connected phone(s) automatically and will display the connect operation results. Check the connection results. Check the Power Off box to turn off the phone automatically after the copy wizard operation.

Never disconnect the programming cable from the phone during the upgrade and write operation. This will destroy your terminal.

COPYING THE PHONE CODEPLUG

Use the Copy Phone function to copy data fields from the master phone to the attached phone. The master phone is another properly working terminal and contains user data which can be cloned to other terminals. The CPS uses as a master the codeplug file read from the master phone and opened in the active application window. Codeplug data are extracted from that file during the Copy operation. Only user-editable fields will be copied. To copy the phone codeplug: Never disconnect the programming cable from the phone during the write operation. This will destroy your terminal. 1 2 Open the required master codeplug file in the active application window. Select File/Copy Phone.

A progress bar will be displayed on the screen. After a few seconds, the bar should begin progressing towards 100%. You cannot cancel the copying operation. Copying will not be allowed if the master phone and attached phone are incompatible, except when copying between different models of the same product and frequency range. If the Copy operation is completed successfully, an appropriate message will be displayed on the PC screen. The backup file of the original Codeplug file named *.cpd will be stored in the backup directory.

WRITING SOFTWARE TO THE PHONE (FLASHING)

This function is used to update (flash) one or more phones simultaneously with the phone software application version. Up to 16 phones can be connected to your PC serial or USB communication ports. 1 From the Tools menu, choose Options/Directories. In the Options dialogue box, make sure the default software path is set to the directory that contains the subscriber software files. Connect the phone(s) you need to flash. Select Tools/Write Software. The Write Software function will search for the connected phone(s) automatically and will display the connect operation results. Check the connection results and click Continue to enter the Write Software dialogue. In the Write Software dialogue check the Power Off box to turn off the phone automatically after the write software operation. Check the version of Subscriber to write in the Write Software Data area for each ports page. To start flash operation click the Write button. The CPS will show the progress of this task. Operation results for each detected phone will be displayed in the Write Software result area of the Write Software dialogue.

UPGRADING PHONE
This function is used to update the phone software version and codeplug data of one or more phones simultaneously. Up to 16 phones can be connected to your PC serial or USB communication ports. From the Tools menu, choose Options/Directories. In the Options dialogue box, make sure the default software path is set to the directory that contains the subscriber software files. Connect the phone(s) you need to upgrade. 1 Select Tools/Upgrade Phone. The Upgrade Phone function will search for the connected phone(s) automatically and will display the connect operation results. Check the connection results and click Continue to enter the Upgrade Phone dialogue. 2 In the Upgrade dialogue check the Power Off box to turn off the phone automatically after the upgrade operation. Check the subscriber version and the data codeplug to write in the Upgrade Data area for each ports page. To start the upgrade operation, click Write. The CPS will show the progress of this task. Operation results for each detected phone will be displayed in Upgrade Result area of the Upgrade Phone dialogue. If the upgrade operation fails at the Write Data To Radio stage, click Retry to retry writing the same data to the same terminal. (The Retry button appears in the Upgrade Phone dialogue in case of failed upgrade.) If multiple upgrade is performed and 56 4 Tutorial

failure occurs only for some of the upgraded terminals, the Retry operation will be performed only on these terminals. If the terminal was disconnected and reconnected again during upgrade, the Retry operation will not be performed and you will be warned that the communication session id does not match. If you have chosen to turn off the phone manually after upgrading, select Tools/ Power Off to return the phone to normal mode of operation. Another way of returning the phone to normal mode of operation is to disconnect it from the programming cable, and remove and then re-install the battery.

ERASE SOFTWARE
This function is used to erase the software application from the terminal memory while preserving the terminal codeplug data. Select Tools/Erase Software. The CPS supports the following order in the Erase Software operation: Read codeplug from the attached terminal and save it in the CPS memory. Erase software from the terminal flash. The terminal codeplug will not be removed from the terminal. You will be asked to confirm or cancel the operation. If the operation is completed successfully, an appropriate message will be displayed. In case there is no communication with the terminal, a warning message will appear. You will be asked to retry the operation or cancel it.The number of retries is unlimited. If you click Cancel, the CPS will display an appropriate error message listing the possible causes of the failed operation.

RESTORE RADIO
Note: This function is useful when the Write Software or Upgrade Software operation failed. This function must be used immediately after interruption of the write software operation. This feature can be used to restore the attached terminal to the following items: The codeplug saved in a backup file in the backup directory The software application indicated in the Application Image field of the backup codeplug. Select Tools/Restore Radio. The CPS reads the codeplug from the attached terminal and determines its serial number. After reading the codeplug, the CPS will seek for the backup codeplug file according to the terminal serial number and at the path indicated in the Default Backup Path field (specified in the Options dialogue box). The CPS might find several backup files whose versions are equal to or less than the terminal codeplug version (see page 50 for help on creating a backup codeplug file). All the found backup files will be displayed in the Restore Radio dialogue box. You will be able to select the desired codeplug version from which to restore the terminal.

When the codeplug version is selected from the combo box, the CPS will read the name of the software file to be written to the terminal from the Application Image field located in the codeplug and will seek for the application in the software directory specified in the Options. If the application exists, its name will be displayed in the dialogue box. In this case you can restore terminal with both the codeplug and software application. 60 4 Tutorial

If the application does not exist, or if the Application Image field is empty, the CPS will display not found. In this case only the codeplug can be restored in the terminal. In both cases, you will be asked whether you want to continue with the operation or cancel it. If you confirm continuation of the operation, the CPS will write the codeplug and software or only the codeplug (mentioned in the request message) to the terminal. If the operation is completed successfully, an appropriate message will be displayed. The CPS will not be capable of restoring the terminal in the following cases: If the terminal codeplug is corrupted, the CPS is unable to read this terminal. If none of the backup files of the original terminal codeplug are found in the backup directory. In these cases an error message appears and the operation is aborted.

EXPORTING USER DATA

The Export User Data feature allows you to quickly fill up codeplug call lists by using external application (Excel) edit options. User data can serve as a template to be saved to a *.htm file for speedy editing. Next, open the *.htm file in the Microsoft Excel application. Use the edit resources (e.g.: cut and paste the same formatted information) to pack the form with the required data. Then, save in the same format file. In the CPS select File/Import User Data to import the data into the source codeplug.

IMPORTING USER DATA

Use this feature to import the User Data file, previously created by Export User Data and saved with the *.htm extension in the user directory and load it into the active codeplug. For the list of the User Data parameters that can be imported during this operation, see EXPORTING USER DATA on page 62. 1 2 Select File/Import/User Data. The Open dialogue box will appear. The CPS opens the User Data file selected by the user from the dialogue box and inserts the existing parameter values into the appropriate fields of the active codeplug. The imported data will replace the current field values.

The CPS displays an appropriate message to let you know whether or not the import operation was successful. The CPS will validate the imported data, display an error message if the file contains illegal values, and cancel the import operation. The codeplug will be restored. The CPS will check compatibility of the imported data with codeplug data loaded into the current window. If the data is not compatible, an error message will appear, and the CPS will cancel the import operation.

EXPORTING USER REPORT

This feature is used to create a file in html format, called User Report, and save it to the hard disk. The User Report will include the content tables of the codeplug parameters that you selected. Each table will have the name of the codeplug parameter and include the codeplug fields with their values as they are viewed in the content view of the active codeplug window. Proceed as follows: 1 2 Read codeplug from phone, or open codeplug file. Select File/Export/User Report. The Save As dialogue box will appear. You can save the User Report file with the current name displayed in the codeplug window title, or you can type a new name in the File name field and save the file under this name. In addition, you can select the place of the file on the hard disk. Click Save to confirm your choice. The CPS will present a list of codeplug parameters and data blocks, which can be included in the user report file. Click the appropriate check box to select the items you wish to export. IMPORT SCREEN SAVER (MTH800, MTP850)

The terminal can operate with a customisable screen saver. The screen saver needs to be loaded onto the terminal via the CPS. Proceed as follows: 1 Prepare your screen saver image as an MS Paint supported *.gif file in the following size or within this scale: - 130X130 pixels size - 256 colours - maximum file size of 18KB 2 3 4 Read master codeplug from master phone, or open master codeplug file. Select File/Export/Screen Saver. The Import Screen Saver dialogue box will appear. Click Load and select the created *.gif file. Make sure that the picture does not extend beyond the Preview frame. Or click Load Default and the Motorola logo will be loaded into the open master codeplug file. Click Import. Write codeplug back to the terminal.

TROUBLESHOOTING THE SOFTWARE INSTALLATION
If there is a problem during the installation, the CPS will display an error message to indicate the type of problem that occurred. Some error messages are reproduced below along with information on how to troubleshoot them: If you see this message...
Cannot create... directory.

Note: Make sure that your computer meets the minimum requirements for installation that appear on page 4.

Do this:
Make sure that the directory path you entered is valid. If not, specify a valid path. Make sure you have the amount of free disk space available and try the installation again. Quit all open applications and try the installation again.

There is not enough space available xx bytes on disk XX. An error occurred during the move process.

TROUBLESHOOTING THE HARDWARE SETUP

Hardware setup problems usually show up when reading or writing codeplug to the phone. Never disconnect the programming cable from the phone during the programming process or power off the PC while the codeplug file is in memory. This will destroy your phone data. To solve the problem: 1 2 3 4 Make sure that the programming hardware you are using match the parts listed on page 88. Check for loose hardware or power supply connections. Examine the metal contacts on the terminal and on the programming cable for dust or grime. If necessary, clean the contacts with alcohol and let dry. Select Tools/Options. Make sure that the setting in the Serial Port fields refer to the correct COM port. if you use the serial communication. If you use the USB communication, make sure that the correct USB port is selected. Access the Troubleshooting section in the on-line help. It contains a comprehensive list of topics to help you solve computer-to-terminal communication problems. Select the link that best describes the problem you are experiencing. The help topic will provide step-by-step instructions on the troubleshooting procedure.
