Forexample,in1Samuel7:711,whenthePhilistineswerecomingagainstthem,theprophetSamueloffered alambasaburntoffering. Asitwasbeingoffered,theLordcamelikealoudthunderonthePhilistinearmy,confusingthem.Thisledto victoryfortheIsraelites. EverytimesomethingbadhappenedtothechildrenofIsrael,byofferingalambsacrifice,theywere proclaimingtheLordsdeath,andthebattlewouldturnintheirfavor. Today,whenwearefacedwithanenemy,howdoweofferourburntoffering? HowdoweproclaimtheLordsdeathandcomeoutvictorious?DoweaskJesustocomedowntowherewe areatanddieonthecrossalloveragain?Ofcoursenot.Jesusdiedonceforalloursinspast,presentand future.

Everytimeyoupartakeofthebreadandwine,youdeclaretotheprincipalitiesandpowersofdarknessthat theLordsdeathavailsforyou. Everytimeyoupartake,youaresayingthatbecauseJesushasbeenjudgedandpunishedinyourplace,you cannotbejudgedandpunished. BecauseJesusdiedyounginyourplace,youwilllivelong. AndbecauseHeconquereddeathandstrippedthedevilofhispowers,youwillnotbedefeated.Thevictory isalreadyyours! ThatiswhythepsalmistDavidsaid,Youprepareatablebeforemeinthepresenceofmyenemies(Psalm 23:5) TheLordstableispreparedforyouinthepresenceofyourenemiesbecausewhenyoupartakeofthebread andwine,youwillseeyourenemiestrembleandscatter!Why? BecausewhenyouproclaimtheLordsdeaththroughtheHolyCommunion,youareremindingthedeviland hiscohortsoftheirhumiliatingdefeatatCalvaryscross!(Colossians2:15)
