Geometry Check
Checks for problems with overlapping geometry, misalignment, and so on. This command may be dimmed. If a shell, offset surface, or thickened surface fails, the system stores information about the surfaces that could not be offset. The GEOM CHECK menu displays a list of features with failed geometry and a Restore command.

What May Cause a Geometry Check Warning?

The following cases might cause the system to issue a geometry check warning: Using blind features to extrude all the way through a part or intersect another surface. When the blind depth is not quite enough, there will be a little gap, which will be detected by Pro/ENGINEER. Do not modify the extruded value onlyredefine the feature to use one of the Thru depth options.
32

What May Cause a Geometry Check Warning? (cont.)

Sketching intersecting features on drafted surfaces You may not notice the slight angle of the draft, but the feature you sketch will not quite align with the feature to be intersected. You should either sketch the feature on the original non-drafted surface or use the option Use Edge so the entities align exactly.

Overlapping Geometry
A surface intersects itself. If Pro/ENGINEER finds a self-intersecting surface, it does not perform any further surface checks. The system highlights the overlapping geometry in red and the corresponding points of intersection in white, and displays an error message.

Detailing Best Practices

35

Graveyard View
One technique that can be used to address these extra dimensions is to create whats known as a graveyard view. A graveyard view is a general view that is created to hold all dimensions that you do not wish to see in a drawing view. Once you switch the unwanted dimension form the drawing view to the graveyard view, they wont be able to accidentally appear in the drawing view when you are working with other dimensions at a later time. In other words, switching unwanted dimensions to a graveyard view keeps drawing views organized and much easier to work with. When you are done adding dimensions to your graveyard view you can ERASE it. (DO NOT DELETE IT,ERASE AND DELETE ARE DIFFERENT OPPERATIONS, IF YOU DELETE A GRAVEYARD VIEW ALL THE DIMENSIONS WILL RETURN TO THEIR ORIGINAL VIEW).

37

Drawing Representations
Using drawing representations, you can improve performance, particularly when working with multi-model large assembly drawings and drawings of complex models. With drawing representation functionality you can perform the following operations: Improve drawing retrieval time and improve drawing performance by minimizing display calculations such as view regenerations and repaints Configure the display of a drawing so that you can work with just the drawing information that you need for current work and keep unnecessary data out of memory

38

Drawing Representations (cont.)

Turn off the display of views that you are not working on so that the system does not calculate unnecessary display information and, in particular, does not retrieve models into session when you retrieve a drawing Load a drawing to a particular drawing sheet, zoom location, or view centerfor example, retrieve only specified sheets of a drawing without loading all the sheets and displaying every view on each sheet

39

Clipping view in z-direction

Decreases repaint time

40

Drawing Overlays
Using overlays, (Tools > Overlay) you can superimpose selected views or an entire sheet of one drawing over the current drawing sheet. This functionality is available for drawings, layouts, reports, and diagrams; each can reference objects of these four types, as well as formats. When working with overlays, keep in mind the following: Overlays are read-only in the current drawing. The system updates overlays to changes in the source drawing. Overlaid views appear with all detail items. You cannot select overlays for any drawing procedure. If the size of the current drawing is different from the size of the source drawing, the overlays brought into the current drawing maintain the same screen size (that is, they occupy the same portion of the graphics window) as they had in the source drawing.
41

Compare Sheet to Picture

You can compare a drawing sheet to a previously saved .pic file of the sheet. You can compare the whole sheet or use any portion of it in magnification. Click Analysis > Compare Sheet to Picture. Select the .pic file to compare. The pic file is "layered" over the drawing page. Common items are suppressed, and any different items, either added or deleted, are shown. MENU MANAGER: #Drawing Options Find - save_drawing_picture_file and set it to export

45

Relative Accuracy
Relative accuracy is used to control the computational accuracy of geometric calculations for a model. The default accuracy is 0.0012. However, if a model has very small features relative to the overall size of the model the accuracy may need to be increased (this is setting the accuracy to a smaller value). Increasing the accuracy will increase the regeneration time. If an increase in the accuracy is needed to successfully regenerate the model, set it according to the following rule. Divide the smallest dimension by the overall length of the model. For example, a cut 0.01 deep is placed on a model that is 15 long. The resulting accuracy should be set to 0.01/15 = 0.00067. The normal range for accuracy is 0.01 to 0.0001.

46

Relative Accuracy (cont.)

For complex models with advanced draft and rounds, such as castings or injection molded parts, you may want to set the accuracy to a lower value when you begin the model. For example, you could set the accuracy to 0.006 instead of the default 0.012 .

47

Absolute Accuracy
Absolute accuracy allows you to specify the actual accuracy of the model. This should only be used if relative accuracy causes regeneration problems for the following cases; Copying or merging geometry from one model to another Designing parts for manufacturing and mold design Matching accuracy of imported geometry to its destination part To switch from relative to absolute accuracy; set the config.pro setting "enable_absolute_accuracy" to yes In the correct model select SET UP, ACCURACY, ABSOLUTE, ENTER VALUE, enter the desired accuracy

48

Tol Study
LMC :- Least Material condition MMC :- Maximum Material condition When you design a model, you expect the actual part dimensions to be within certain predetermined limits of size. Pro/ENGINEER defines these limits of sizeupper and lower dimension boundariesas dimension bounds. The system creates model geometry based on nominal values for each dimension. You can create a hypothetical model of a part or assembly based on upper and lower allowable dimensions, and later use this new geometry to measure the effects of various analysis functions.

49

Tol Study (cont.) Click Edit > Setup > Dim Bound.
Specify the value limits by choosing one of the following commands: Upper - Sets the dimension value to its maximum Middle - Sets the dimension value to the nominal value plus the mean of the upper and lower tolerance values. Lower - Sets the dimension value to its minimum. Nominal -Sets the dimension value to nominal.
