Notes+ ,e are dealin- with hi-h 'olta-e that can %ill you. so i( you are not sure what you are doin-, please ha'e it (i/ed y the pro that has proper tools and sa(ety e0uipment. 1ry to use 2*& outlet and isolation trans(ormer when wor% around the 1# set and DO NO1 D3*3A1 143 25O6ND P&N O* 143 O61731/PO,35 CO5D. 1he monitor will ha'e at least " circuits oards, one oard will e the lo-ic oard where the 'ideo ca le (rom PC is attached to, the second oard used in most monitors today is the Power supply/ ac%li-ht in'erter oard com inations. Some monitors will ha'e separate power supply module and ac%li-ht in'erter oard. 1he monitor should e connected to the runnin- PC otherwise it will -o into stand y mode. 1he operations o( each oard+ 1) The Power supply board: &t ta%es the !"8'ac 984z and con'erts it to hi-h 'olta-e DC :around !98;!<8'dc (iltered y the =8;!>8u( ">8;$>8'dc cap? y the rid-e recti(iers to e used y the switchin- power supply circuits that con'erts this DC 'olta-e into hi-h (re0uency :around >8;!88 @4z? AC (or dri'in- the step down trans(ormer. 1he outputs :usually " outputs? o( the trans(ormer will e recti(ied y the diodes to produce the re-ulated >'dc (or the lo-ic oard, and re-ulated !";"8'dc :!"'dc is usually (or screen up to !<inch, !9;"$'dc (or !=;"$ inch screen?. 1he power supply circuits are always on :unless the monitor uses the power switch that actually disconnects the power (rom the outlet which is rarely used these days? which means that it is runnin- "$/< usin- the monitor or not, any spi%es and sur-e will e (ed into the monitor power supply. Common pro lems+ Blown (uses, ad caps :lea%in-/ ul-in- tops or ottom seals, please note that ad cap may loo% normal ut it can ha'e hi-h 3S5 :30ui'alent Series 5esistance?. 1he DC (ilter cap should e low 3S5 type (or usin- in the switchinpower supplyA -eneral purpose electrolytic types will not last 'ery lon- in switchin- power supply circuits. Chec% the >'dc and the !";"$'dc to ma%e sure they are O@. 1hey should e tested with the load, you can use 9# !A :9watts? lamp (or the >'dc, and car lamps such as !!>< :!"' =watts lo/"9watts hi-h? turn si-nal ra%e lamp usin- hi-h (ilament connection (or testin- the !";!='dc :or use two !!>< in series (or !C;"$'dc? (or the ac%li-ht in'erter circuits. &( the power supplies are wor%in-, the output 'olta-es should e steady at the rated 'olta-es. 1he power supply will -o into shut down i( it detects too much current draw due to (alse in the power supply or short circuits in the ac%li-ht in'erter or in the lo-ic oard.

2) The backlight in erter circuits: &t ta%es the !";"$'dc and con'erts it to hi-h (re0uency AC to dri'e the in'erter trans(ormers CC*7 :Cold Cathode *luorescent 7amp? assem lies. 1he trans(ormers will dri'e the CC*7 y applyin- the start up 'olta-e :around !>88;"888'?, when the CC*7 start conductin-, the 'olta-e will drop down to a out >88;=88'. 1he in'erter has detection circuits to detect open circuit i( the lamp is not attached or does not (ire up a(ter the start up 'olta-e is applied, it will -o into shut down. &t will also shut down i( the lamps draw too much current due to a-es :when lamp -ets old it will draw more current?. 1he in'erter -ets two si-nals (rom the lo-ic oard, one is the ac%li-ht ON/O** si-nal, the other one is the Dimmin- si-nal (or the lamps. Common pro lems+ Bad (ilter caps, resonant caps :in the in'erter output circuits?, lown transistors/&C, shorted or open trans(ormer windin-. 1estin-+ Dou should ha'e spare lamps (or testin- the in'erter circuits. Dou can -et lamps (rom www.lcdparts.net !) Logic board: 1he lo-ic oard -et the si-nals (rom the #2A :ANA7O2? or D#& :D&2&1A7? and processes them and (eed them to the 7CD panel 1ECON :1imin- Controller? oard on the ac% o( the 7CD panel. &t also sends out two si-nals : ac%li-ht ON/O** and Dimmin-? to the in'erter circuits when the monitor is on and -ettin- the si-nals (rom the PC. &( the lo-ic oard does not -et the si-nal (rom the PC, it will put monitor into stand y mode. 1he >'dc (eedin- it is con'erted to F.F', !.='dc y the switchin- uc% con'erters to run the processor. 1he lo-ic oard also sends the >'d or !"'dc power (or the 1ECON oard, i( the 'olta-e is not there, you will see white/-rey -lowin- screen only. Not much repair you can do on the lo-ic oard unless you ha'e the (ull ser'ice manual and sur(ace mount repair station. ") CC#L and $n erter circuits testing: &( you don not ha'e the in'erter and lamp tester o/es :see www.lcdparts.net?, you may e a le to do a simple test y usin- these steps+ &( the screen (lashes on (or a second, you can disconnect all the lamp connectors and connect it into one o( the trans(ormer output connector and see i( you will see the (lash on the screen, i( you do, then try it with another trans(ormer output connector to see i( it also -et the (lash on the screen. 5epeat the procedure with other F lamps. &( all the lamps do (lash on (or seconds then more li%ely the lamps are O@. &( lamp only (lash on one o( the trans(ormer output then you will %now that the pro lem in that trans(ormer in'erter circuits. &( none o( the lamps (lash at all then the pro lem is in the in'erter circuits, power supply, or not -ettin- the on si-nal (rom the lo-ic oard. By Bud Martin *irst, try unplu--in- it (rom the outlet (or a out an hour to see i( the 1# will reset itsel( since the minute the 1# is plu--ed into the wall, the power supply and processor will e runnin- "$/< and the 3P5OM can -et corrupted y spi%es and sur-es. 1ry usin- -ood 0uality sur-e suppressor to see i( it will help i( it happen o(ten. 7oo% (or urnt rown hot spots on the circuit oards, capacitors with lea%in-/ ul-in- top or seals. 7oose wires and connectors. Blown (uses. &otes: 'e are dealing with high oltage that can kill you( so i) you are not sure what you are doing* please ha e it )i+ed by the pro that has proper tools and sa)ety e,uip-ent. Try to use /#$ outlet and isolation trans)or-er when work around the T% set and D0 &0T D1#12T T31 /405&D P$& 0# T31 05TL1T6P0'14 C04D. 1) The power supply -odule 7There are " regulated output oltages:8 9tandby : dc* switched : dc* 12;1< dc* and 2" dc). 1he power supply con'erts the !"8/"F8'ac >8/984z into DC, then the hi-h (re0uency :>8;!88%4z? switchincircuits con'ert it ac% to AC ut at hi-h (re0uency which allows the power supply to use smaller and much li-hter wei-ht trans(ormers :*errite core instead o( hea'y iron core?, then this hi-h (re0uency AC 'olta-e is (ed to the recti(ier Diodes to -et the DC output and (iltered y DC (ilter capacitors that must ha'e low 3S5 :30ui'alent Series 5esistance?, i( -eneral purpose electrolytic caps are use, they will (ail within a year or less due to hi-h 3S5. 1he power supply has 9tandby : dc 7:%9B* this is a M59T ha e be)ore anything else will work* when this oltage is not present* there will be no any indicator light on the )ront panel) which is always on the minute the 1# is plu--ed into the AC outlet, so it is on "$/< and that is why the power supply will (ail e'en thou-h you may use the a 1# not 'ery o(ten. &t will see all the 'olta-e spi%es and sur-es "$/<. 1his >'dc is used to power the Processor and the &n(rared remote recei'er module which will e waitin- (or the command (rom the remote control or (rom the power switch, when the Power on command is recei'ed, the Processor will send the turn on si-nal :F.F;>'dc? to the power supply module :PSON pin? to the switch on the -ain : dc (or the rest o( the lo-ic and 1uner circuits,12;1< dc (or the sound ampli(iers :mostly Class D ampli(ier (or e((iciency and small size? and (or the 1ECON oard :inter(ace oard etween the 7CD panel, some 1ECON uses >'dc, and the 7o-ic oard?, and 2" dc (or the Bac% li-hts in'erter oard :i( there is no "$'dc then no ac% li-ht?. Co--on )ailures: Blown main AC (use due to shorted out Diodes, transistors. Bad capacitors lea%in- or ul-in- tops+ Shorted Diodes, transistors in the DC output side. Testing the power supply output with du--y load:

Dou can use two K!!>< :usin- oth 7o ) 4i (ilaments y parallelin- them at the ase? car li-ht ul s connected in series so they can handle the "$'dc, this will put li-ht load :a out <8w? on the "$'dc output, the 'olta-e out should e steady at "$'dc :L/E"'?, i( not, the power supply has re-ulation pro lem. 12 dc testing: disconnect the !"'dc 1# load (rom the power supply oard and attach one K!!>< :usin- Bust the 4i (ilament?, the !"'dc output should stay at !"' :L/E!'?, i( not, the power supply has re-ulation pro lem. Dou should see the lamps -o on when the 1# power switch is ON and -o O** when the 1# is powered O**. 2) Main Logic board 7$t has Processor* Tuner* 9ound Processor* 9ources selector* Power a-pli)iers )or speakers* inter)ace port to the T8C0& board )or pictures). 1his lo-ic oard sends out the turn on si-nals :F.F;>'dc? to turn on the rest o( the Power supply module :Switched main >'dc, !";!9'dc, and "$'dc?, &n'erter ac%li-ht ON :i( no ac% li-ht on command then there is no ac% li-hts?, 7o-ic oard supplies > or !"'dc to 1ECON oard BL pin throu-h switched transistor i( 1ECON oard does not -et the 'olta-e (rom the lo-ic oard, you will -et white/-ray -lowin- screen without pictures. Bac% li-hts Dimmin- :P,M? control si-nal. !) Back lights $n erter board. $ts =ob is to pro ide the dri e oltage )or the CC#L 7Cold Cathode #luorescent La-p) to gi e white light )or the screen. 1his oard is (ed y the switched "$'dc :#B7? (rom the power supply module, it also -et the Bac% li-hts on :B7 on? control si-nal and the Dimmin- :Dim/P,M/? si-nal (rom the lo-ic oard. So (or it to wor%, it needs "$'dc and the B7HON si-nal. Co--on )ailures: Blown sur(ace mounted (uses due to shorted transistors/&Cs, 1rans(ormers. Bad capacitors. ") The T8C0& 7Ti-ing Control or LCD controller) board 7on the LCD panel asse-bly). &t trans(er the uni'ersal ima-e si-nal o( 117 and 7#DS si-nal to speci(ic 1*1 :1hin *ilm 1ransistor? 7CD. 1his is the inter(ace oard that tal%s to the 7o-ic oard and the 7CD panel to produce pictures on the screen. ,hite/-ray -lowin- screen when it (ails or not -ettin- the 'olta-e (rom the lo-ic oard :the > or !"'dc is supplied y switched transistor on the lo-ic oard?. &otes: T8C0& board is -ounted under the -etal co er shield. Co--on )ailures: Scram led pictures, 7ines, multiple pictures, color smears/ lotches, rollin- pictures a(ter warm up. Blown sur(ace mounted (use. No pictures, 'ery dar% screen almost li%e there is no ac%li-hts. :) LCD panel asse-bly to display pictures. The LCD pi+els will block or unblock the back lights )ro- the back o) the panel to the )ront o) the panel. This is the -ost e+pensi e part o) the T%* it will be -ore than the T% is worth. As you can see, you must ha'e all the a o'e #olta-es and si-nals (or the 1# to wor% properly. 1his may help you narrowin- down the ad modules instead o( uyin- the wron- module Bust to (ind out later that it did not sol'e the pro lem. 4ope this will help you out. 9ound proble-:

7et 'eri(y (irst to narrow down to where the pro lem can e. *irst, chec% the on screen sound set up menu to ma%e sure the spea%ers are not set to O**. &( the settin- is O@, then attach the powered PC spea%ers to the Audio 7ine out 5CA Bac%s to see i( you can -et the sound there, i( you do, then the pro lem can e in the power amp circuits, i( you do not -et the sound at 5CA Bac%s, then the pro lem can e in the sound processor circuit. 1o -et the sound repair, it can e (rom J!>8 and up, so i( you can put up with usin- the -ood set o( Powered PC spea%ers which actually -i'e etter sound than the tiny spea%ers inside the 1#, & would %eep usin- it that way, you may want to (ind out i( the on screen sound setup will allow you to set the audio line out to e #A5&AB73 which means the sound output (eedin- the PC spea%ers can e 'aried usin- the 1# remote control, then all you ha'e to do is to set the PC 'olume to a out hal( way up and set the 1# 'olume to what e'er you want. $n erter board connector: you can also see the #use "261<>%
