10 Days / 8 Nights Discovery of Islamic Spain & Morocco

DAY 1 (08/06) : SINGAPORE - MADRID TOLEDO MADRID Depart from Singapore to Madrid via Dubai by Emirates , check in at Terminal 1 on 7 Jun @ 10.30 pm. Arrival into Madrid meet and greet service by our bilingual local guides. We start our visit to Real Madrid Bernabeu Stadium (Pho to Stop Only) and proceed for lunch. After lunch shopping at Madrid Shopping Outlet. After shopping chek in hotel. At night we will enjoy a special exclusive dinner arranged in Madrid , then Shopping at Mall before proceed back to Hotel and overnight at Hotel Auditorium or similar. Day 2 (09/06) : MADRID TOLEDA - CORDOBA Sightseeing: Toleda , The Islamic Moorish bridge of Musa Ibn Nusair- The Islamic bridge tower Torre la Calahorra - The Great Mosque La Mezquita - The old Islamic Moorish City La Juderia - Tradional Islamic Museum La Casa Andalus - Medina Azahra - The Ruins of Medina Azahra). After having enjoyed our breakfast we continue our journey to Toledo (Photo stop only), to the City of Romance, Culture and Art. The city where it all began, of the fall of the Great Vandal Empire and the rise of the immense Islamic Empire in Europe, the beginning of civilization in Europe. Then to the magnificent city of the Caliphate Crdoba. We start our tour in Qurtuba (Crdoba) for a stroll through La Judera and its cobbled streets of this jewel city of the middle Ages. Be spellbound by the Mezquita, the exquisite mosque started by Abdul Rahman I and expanded by his successors. In the afternoon we visit the once dazzling city of Madinat-Azahra and learn how it fell to its ruins. Enjoy a guided tour in the evening of the Jewish quarters, the old medina and the Roman bridge as we learn about Al-Zahrawi, Ibn Hazm, Ibn Rushd and Musa bin Maimun or Maimonides, a Jewish son of Islamic Spain. Immerse yourself in the history of this medieval marvel. After we have checked-in at our exculsive hotel we shall start with the discovery of its illustrious history which has been home to many cultures and civilizations - Visigoth and Roman and later on for almost 800 years by the Muslims, to name a few. We will visit the museums La Torre de la Calahorra & Casa Andalus and enjoy their beautiful surroundings. Day 3 (10/06) - GRANADA Sightseeing: The Alhambra Palace - The Old Islamic Moorish City - The Historical Quran Madrassa Albaycn Kasabah - El Mirador de Saint Nicols - The Great Mosque of Granada). (Dinner at `Macia Hotel with evening entertainment,Andalus sufi music by converted Spanish Muslims especially arranged for our Singaporean brothers andsisters.) In the morning we start our journey towards Granada to the City of Faith and justice. Ghranata or also named Granada, a pearl at the foot of Jabal Shulayr, the Sierra Nevada mountain and the crown of AlAndalus, the magnificent kingdom that produced astounding architecture and a rich tradition that still influences the lives of the people of present-day Andalusia. We enjoy the city of Ghranata on foot to unravel the Islamic heritage of this enchanting kingdom, its Arab baths, its guest houses, its markets.Today we shall visit the Palace, the historical palace where King Abu Abdullah (the last king of Granada) handed over the keys of the city to queen Isabella and left Andalucia. In the evening after enjoying the heavenly sunset at the feet of the Saint Nicolas plaza with a breathtaking view of the Alhambra, we will offer Maghreb prayers at the new Granada Mosque and probe the old city of Albaycn, where the medieval mystique is still alive. It is a very dynamic city, offering a perfect mix of history and present-day modern life. We shall enjoy off all the beautiful and delicious things which this city has to offer. In the afternoon we will discover the marvel of architecture, the Alhambra, the red fortress built on top of a hill and the biggest attraction in Spain. It is a fairy-tale fortress created by Muslim architects, engineers, artists and craftsmen who put their heart and soul, inspired by the Quran to build an exquisite abode, where the motto is There is no Conqueror but Allah. We explore this incredible fortress with its Quranic scripts and Arabic poetry, crowning our visit by admiring the Jannat al-Arif, the garden of paradise, now called the Generalife. With its Cypress and Myrtle courtyards, amazing blossom of flowers, fountains and streams, you will be enraptured. See how light, wind and water have been utilized to create a serene and relaxing bliss. In the evening after enjoying the heavenly sunset at the feet of the Saint Nicols plaza with a breathtaking view of the Alhambra.We will offer Maghreb prayers at the new Granada Mosque and walk around the old city of Albaycn, where the medieval mystique is still alive.

Day 4 (11/06) - SEVILLE Sightseeing: The Great Mosque Minarat La Giralda - The Emir Palace Alczar - The Old Islamic Palace wall - The golden Tower Torre del Oro. After having enjoyed a delicious breakfast we start our visit in style to the amazing beautiful capital city of Andaluca. The city of Isbiliya or Seville, the most beautiful city of Spain. The Muslims left a rich legacy in this historical city that gave birth to a culture that was the epitome of the refinement of the MoorishAndalusian heritage. We visit what was once the main Mosque, which was demolished and replaced by a Gothic cathedral. However, the astounding minaret, the Giraldais still standing and is one the most awesome sight to behold. Visit the Alczar, a castle built in the Mudejar style. Enjoy the setting of the Torre del Oro, the GoldenTower built by the Almohads on the banks of Wadi-al-Kabir River or Guadalquivir as it is known today.We will learn about Al-Mutammid, the poet and Emir of this captivating city. We shall discover with you all the hidden secrets of this beautiful city of Islamic European heritage and all the beauty that it contains. Day 5 (12/06) - SEVILLA - GIBRALTAR - TARIFA - TANGIERS - RABAT Sightseeing: El mirador Gibraltar - Tarifa Port, cross over in. Ferry to Morocco. Reception in the Port of Tangiers, motorway to Rabat. Sightseeing: The Royal Palace, Kasbah Oudaya, The Tower ofHassan, Mouseleum of Mohammed V. After breakfast we will set out towards Morocco, crossing the Straits of Gibralter that separates the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Upon arrival at the port of Tangiers continue to the magnificent city of the Capital of Morocco - Rabat. After checking in to the hotel we will embark on a sightseeing tour of the most beautiful surroundings of the city. You will be taken through centuries back to discover the hidden secrets of Rabat. And nestling withing the protection of the ocre-coloured ramparts, a gleaming white city and a minaret which reaches up to touch the clouds. Sultan Yacoub El Mansour in the 7th centry planned to buid the largest mosque in the muslim world after Samarra in Irak. The building work was abandoned after his death in 1199. The tower is 44.3 meters tall but didnt reach its planned 60m. Within the same area is Mohammed V Mauseleum, Muhammad V and his son Moulay Abdellah and also Hassan II are buried in the royal tomb. It was built between 1961 and 1971, 400 moroccan craftsman worked on the building. The architect Eric Vo Tian designed it and it is renowned for its classic andalusian-arab style and morrocan crafts. Rabat has a long history as a capital city. In the 7th century, Yacoub el-Mansour, the great Almohad conqueror chose it to be the symbol of his splendour, But history had already been made in Rabat, The Merinides (XIIIth and XIVth century) honoured the city by making it the site of the Chellah necropilis, building o nthe ruins of the ancient Roman town of Sal. As Yacoub el-Mansour is honoured with the Hassan Tower, dominating what should have been the greatest mosques in the Muslim world, or the mausoleum of the late King Mohammed V, architect of Morrocan independance in 1956 and the imposing Dar-al-Makhzen, or the Royal Palace, residence of the king and seat if the government since 1912. It was newly built in 1864, on top on the remains if the ancient palace. In the square in front of the main door or Mechouar, is where they hold the festivities to honour the King of Morocco. King Muhammed VI doesnt live in the Palace itself but in Dar Es Salam on the outskirts of Rabat, which was once was the residency of his Grandfather Mohammed V. We will also visit Kasbah Oudaya, a city within a city, once called Mehdia, it is this Kasbah that gave Rabat its name. The Ribat is actually a strenghtened monastery, and it is here wher the Monk soldiers established themselves when they went to Spanish War. Ribat became Ribat El Fath or Ribat the Victorious, which become Rabat. When the muslims were banished from Al-Andalus in the 17th century, they arrived in the Kasbah and it became an independant republic of pirates from 1621 to 1647. In 1833 the Oudaya tribe captured the place and finally gave it its name of Oudaya Kasbah.

Day 6 (13/06) - RABAT - SETTAT - BENGRIR - MARREKECH Departure from hotel to Marrekech, passing through Settat & Bengrir. Sight-seeing: Afternoon visit though the historical part of the city: Mosque Koutoubia, The Baha Palace, The Saadian Tombs - Evening outing to Chez Ali , Folklore Traditional Evening Show with dinner. We will spend an enjoyable afternoon exploring the historical City. The Koutoubia Mosque is the emblem andsymbol of Marrakech. It is the point of reference to any lost visitor. This place of worship was built mid 12th century by the successor of the Almohads Abdelmoumen Ben Ali, Ibn Toumert. Its name is taken from

the many bookshops and manuscripts shops which used to exist against one of its walls. It can hold up to 20.000 worshipers. Its minaret is 77m tall and its interior is divied into 17 areas with fine stucco and inscriptions. Its exterior reflects the mix of simple austerity that is so true of Almohad architecture. The Bahia Palace is a materpiece of Moroccan arquitecture. It was built in the 14th century and as most arab palaces, has beautiful gardens and charming patios with richly decorated rooms. It was designed by El Mekki in the name of the great Visier Ba Ahmed ben Moussa Hmad (1841-1900). Many scenes from Lawrence of Arabia were filmed in the main patio.The Saadian Tombs were discovered in 1917. There are four sultans buried there aswell as 62 members of the dinasty there ruled in the 16th century. It is covered with Carrera marble, mosaics and stuccos in the Andalus style.The most prestgious room has 12 columns. In the evening we will enjoy an folkloric traditional evening of typical morocan food, tea and entertainment in Chez Ali on the outskirts of Marrakech. Day 7 (14/06) - MARRAKECH - BENI MELLAL - IFRANE - FES Departure from hotel to Fes, passing through Beni Mellal & Ifran. Visit to Khenifra Azrou The Rock and Imouzzer Kandar- Fez: The Medina, Karaouine Mosque & The Bouanania Madrassa. Today you will visit the world famous Medina, the ancient market. It is the exotic Morocco, narrow winding alleyways, craft bazaars, food markets, mosques, madrasas, dye-pits and tannaries. Furthermore well have thehonour of visiting the biggest mosque in Africa, the Karaouine. It is also the oldest university in the world. It would founded in 859 by a woman whose family emmigrated to Fez from Tunisia. The buidings are decorated with carved wood, mosaics and stucco. The university played an important role in the interaction between erudite muslims and cristians. The Bouanania Madrassa was built between 13501355 by Sultan Abu Inan Merinies and itis the most famous of all the Mrindes madrassas in Morocco. Its role is a University and student residency as well as Friday prayer mosque. The islamic university is a treasure of Meren architecture with mosaics and stucco decoration. Day 8 (15/06) - FEZ - MEKNES - CASABLANCA Sightseeing: Bab al-Mansour, Jamai palace, Museum of Morrocan Arts. You will visit the world famous Imperial city of Meknes starting with a sightseeing tour to the most beautiful historical surroundings to discover the hidden treasures and secrets of this breathtaking city. A dream made reality, set in the heart of the Moroccan countryside is Meknes, the imperial city built by Moulay Ismail. With tireless effort and unrelenting will, he undertook the task of making this town into a capital worthy of saving his image. Palaces, mosques, fountains, terraces, gardens, stables and shops were built without any despite over a period of 50 years to fill the gigantic space contained within the mighty ramparts. Its monument gates, opening in the mighty walls, give access to the wonders of the city, Bab alMansour, the main and finest gates, leads to the inmense mechoar where the breathtaking mausoleum of Moulay Ismail stands. Its monuments and the sumptous glory of its palaces will not be forgotten. The Jamai palace for example, former residence of a vizier, now houses the Museum of Morrocan Arts with its rich collections of porcelain, embroidery, carpets, wood carvings and jewellery. Not to be missed is the countryside of Meknes which gives views onto Mount Zerhoun, on which is perched the holy City of Moulay Idriss, the City of green roofs. We continue to Casablanca to visit the beautiful pearl of the Atlantic Ocean, the city of Islamic heritage and today the most luxury and wealthy city of Morocco, a city not only for Kings and Princes qith the beautiful surroundings of the Saudi Royal family palaces and the grandious Mosque of king Hassan II, which is surrounded with a unique beauty and mystic which you will never find in the world. You will be taken though the most beautiful locations like the old city and to enjoy the most beauty Day 09 (16/06) - FEZ - MEKNES - CASABLANCA - Transfer to Casablanca International Airport for your return flight home via Dubai by Emirates.
