Organizational Behavior

“Organizational behavior is a relatively recent field of study and application. Organizational

behavior field is characterized by rigorous scientific methodology. Because organizational
behavior is a relatively new field, it must be precisely defined: the understanding, prediction,
and management of human behavior in organizations. It is also important to see how OB
(micro, theoretical) relates to other closely related disciplines such as organization theory or
OT (macro, theoretical), organizational development or OD (macro, applied), and human
resource management or HRM (micro, applied).” (Luthans, 2005)

Organizational behavior is being analyzed on individuals, groups, and behavior within

organizations, for the purpose of applying such knowledge toward improving an
organization’s effectiveness. Many behavioral sciences have contributed to the development
of organizational behavior, namely, Psychology, Social Psychology, Sociology, and
Anthropology. Thus, organizational behavior can be stated as the study of people in relation
to their fellow human beings.
