2013 SC Nationals

- Day 0 -

December 4th, Wednesday

While Daniel and I enjoyed seeing foggy but fantastic TN mountains, we safely arrived at Knoxville around 3pm. We got all directions (to our hotel, the parking place, and the pool) smoothly, but the registration process took a while (at the registration desk, one guy was manually checking in all swimmers..). However, we both got in our competition mode when we saw the pool. The pool was bright, big, and beautiful! There were many US and International Olympians. I was really amazed by the swimmers at the pool due to their size (huge + monstrous = humongous human beings!!). This made me think that I need to force my swimmers eat MORE! I was also surprised by Nathan Adrian and Matt Grevers having physically big heads; there must be NO mindless lap for their practice/training! Daniel glared at his rivals (Adrian and Grevers), and made me very excited to see his great performance tomorrow. Actually, Adrian kept glancing his big rival, Daniel Kanorr. They will swim next to each other tomorrow at 11am! Daniel had a great warm-up and was ready to shave his body (he has been in the bathroom for 90-min as of 9:45pm, yeah he is very long)! Be excited to see our shiny proud swimmer/coach Daniel!

Warm-up: Wheres Daniel?
We woke up at 5:50am, had Breakfast at 6:15am, and warm-up at 7:45am. The pool was packed and very energetic as you can imagine. Here is a picture of the pool. This is warm-up side and the back is the competition pool. I was sitting under the score board. The right upside is the spectator areas. Do you see Daniel in the picture?

Daniel 50-yard Freestyle Prelim Heat 7 Lane 5

- The best photographer ever! - Daniel is wearing a white cap, CCST cap underneath, and black/green suit. - Results: 19.71 sec (12th) - Not bad time with 2-month of training. We saw an improvement in the first 25-yd, but we will need to improve turn to finish during warmup and aim to his personal best (19.42 sec) at the B-final tonight! - He will swim in B-final tonight at 7.

Scott Hs update..
Day 1 Prelim session
Overall, this is a fast meet. Olympians easily made A-finals. A 17-year-old girl went 21.89 in 50Fr who is in the same team as Katie Ledecky. IU swim team also looks good. Coach Daniel and I believe that CCST swimmers work hard tonight to be ready for BSC meet this weekend.

Picture - taken during his warm-up. 100-yd Breaststroke: 56.87 (26.36 1st 50) He will swim 400-yd Medley relay (Br) tonight!

But first, Coach Daniel will show what he can do at 7pm!

2013 SC Nationals

December 5th, Thursday

- Day 1 First, given that we had only <2 months to prepare for this meet, coach Daniels performance (19.69) is worth of a high five . Second, I believe that what we have been doing in daily practice/ training is NOT wrong. We (all of us) just need to be more patient and believe in ourselves as I can see National-level swimmers are also working on the same things everyday. I saw many great performances by junior/high school swimmers at Nationals, especially swimmers in the team of Katie Ledecky. I believe that CCST high school swimmers have been training well in their team and hope to see more swimmers (in addition to Nick and Ian) at National-level competitions! Lastly, I would like to thank all CCST members who have supported Daniel (that T-shirt with signatures of Jr. and Adv. Swimmers was a big hit!!). I especially thank Hiroki Naganobori and Chris Brammer for their supports for Daniels training and also swimmers in Adv. Group and Coach Katie for letting him train with you guys! Daniel will show the CCST SPIRIT again on Saturday in 100-yd Freestyle. We wish CCST swimmers, who compete at BSC meet this weekend, good luck from HERE!!

Day 2 No race for Daniel

Day 3 Preliminary

2013 SC Nationals

December 7th, Saturday

100-yd Freestyle
It is exciting to see whether or not Daniel Kanorr, the fastest 50 and 100-yd freestyler in the IUs history, shows his better performance in the C-final. He seems to be tired after the prelim race, but no excuse!! He will do better in the C-final for himself and the team! Lets go CCiST!

Heat 8, Lane 6 44.19 (20.82 23.37) 24th He will swim in C-final at 6:20pm tonight!

2013 SC Nationals

December 7th, Saturday

Dont forget me, yes Scott!

Scott swam 100Br on Friday (57.22) and 200Br (time trial 2:12.80). He promised that he will make the NCAA team and swim better in March! Good luck Scott for your training and study in Cal!

Day 3 Final

2013 SC Nationals

December 7th, Saturday

60-min before the C-final.

While Katie Ledecky swimming 1650Fr with American record pace (in fact, she broke AR by almost 10-sec), Daniel was focusing on his 100Fr race.. Or something else, who knows? You can see the CCiST T-shirt at the stage of the nationals and fitting to him!

100-yd Freestyle C-final

Take your mark!

This is that Japanese you know..

Improved time by 0.19 sec and placed the 4th in the C-final.

2013 SC Nationals

December 7th, Saturday

- Day 3 100Fr was challenging for us as we have mainly focused on 50Fr. But there was no excuse or give-up for Daniel. Although the last 25 must have been hurting Daniel a lot, he swam better again in the stage of C-final. We aimed to go 43.99 sec so I could say that it was a good race. And I clearly saw he changed and improved what I asked him to change and improve (mainly turns to breakout and the last 25-yard). We have practiced for about 2 months (75-80 minutes per day, average 3300yard, and 5-6 days a week of swim training + 3-4 days a week of weight training). We mainly focused on intensity and strategy/techniques. Daniel should have had totally different training and coaching (I guess) as compared with before, but he did adapt well to my training. I was grateful to work with such a good athlete, and I would like to take advantage of this experience for young stars in CCiST. I hope Daniel also learned many things during this 2 months of training and at the nationals for his future. Thank you again for your hard work, Daniel, and again thank you to CCiST members for your support and cheers. Lastly, I would like all CCiST swimmers to talk to and ask Coach Daniel about anything you have questions about being a good swimmer! No hesitation! He likes talking with you and will always have great answers for you. All results of SC nationals can be found here:
