fairly successful, as we have
had two other community-
based organizations namely
the Community Eco-Tourism
Association (CETA) from
Kuala Gula, and the Fraser’s
Hill Environmentally
Sustainable Heritage (FRESH)
visiting us to see and learn
how our project is being
implemented. We were also
invited to Kula Gula to give a
talk on community recycling.
To date, we have
transported about twenty tons
of recyclables to the recycling
plants in Ipoh and Penang. Our
project has progressed to the
extent where the recyclables
are stored at participating sites
and the vendors collect them
and pay the participants
directly. With this monetary
incentive we hope more
establishments will be
involved in recycling.
Our next step is to
include the new villages in the
district. With the co-operation
of the local authority this will
definitely be possible and
successful.
Clothes, shoes and toys.
Besides recycling, we have also
set up a centre where clothes,
shoes and toys are collected and
donated through NGOs working
with the Orang Asli. To this date
about a ton has been collected.
