Considerations
Z550

(1) Linear outputs will continue regardless of the sync input. (2) Outputs are held during OFF delays even if there is no sync input. (3) Judgement output is prohibited when there is no sync input, and all judgement outputs are OFF.

E4DA
Judgement Output Setting Method and Output Characteristics
The E4DA is equipped with a function that judges and outputs the distance from the Sensor to the sensing object.
Use the HIGH output setting adjuster and LOW output setting adjuster to set the distance range in which the three outputs HIGH, PASS, and LOW turn ON. An indicator is provided for each adjuster, which can be used as a guideline for the distance setting.
Short-circuit wire (sync input)

Displacement/ Length Sensors

Considerations
(1) The indicator scale is provided as a guide. For fine tuning, connect the K3NX and view the display while performing adjustment. (2) Set so that the HIGH setting is always greater than the LOW setting. Even when one adjuster is not used, make sure that the other adjuster satisfies these conditions. (3) The output will become unstable and collision with the Sensor may occur if the sensing object approaches the alarm area. Reposition the sensing object if the alarm turns ON. (4) When measurement timing is required, connect a Sync Sensor between the 0 V and sync input terminals. (For details, refer to page 436.) (5) Correct measurement is not possible if the inclination of the sensing object exceeds the allowable angle. (For details, refer to page 435.)

Example
The output example for linear output and judgement output when approaching the sensing object is shown here. The judgement output is set with LOW output of 40 mm and HIGH output of 60 mm. The output status at that time is shown together with the indicator status. The linear output outputs current proportional to the distance to the sensing object, regardless of the judgement output setting. In this example, terminals (1) and (2) are shorted, and the hold function and OFF delay timer are not used.

Functions
Name When the sensing object inclines further than the allowable angle, the reflected ultrasonic wave will not be returned and detection will not be possible. The hold function can be used to hold the linear output from before detection was not possible. (For actual values for inclination influence, refer to Sensing Object Inclination Vs. Sensing Distance on page 435.) Function Inclination has exceeded the allowable angle.

The reflected wave is not returned, and detection is not possible.

If the detection status 21.6 to 26 recovers during the holding 20 time, the hold function is automatically cancelled and the 4 new is output. The EXT setting holds the linear output from before detection was not possible during sync input (terminals (1) and (2)short-circuited) until a stable input is received.

Note: Judgement outputs and alarm outputs operate according to the linear output values.

The output signal for sensing objects that move at high-speed may be too fast to be read by the PC. The timer function provides a 40 ms OFF-delay that holds only the PASS output for the full duration.

Considerations

(1) The OFF-delay function is enabled only for PASS output of judgement outputs. (2) HIGH output and LOW output is prohibited during OFF delays for PASS output and will not operate. (3) Output will be held during OFF delay even if there is no sync

E4DA
Terminology
Resolution
The variation in measurement values for a static standard sensing object within the rated measurement distance range converted to distance (variation range 2 : is the standard variation).

Response Time
The delay until output after the sensing object is detected. For the E4DA, the internal circuit operates with a 2-ms sampling cycle, so the maximum response delay is 2 ms.

FS
Displacement/ Indicates the range for the rated measurement distance. The FS for Length the E4DA is 40 mm. Sensors

Sync Input Response Time

Minimum time required until the sync input is enabled.

Linearity
The maximum deviation from an ideal straight line expressed as a percentage and shown in a graph showing relationship of distance to linear output under fixed temperature and voltage conditions.

Safety Precautions

WARNING

This product is not designed or rated for ensuring Length safety of persons. Do not use it for such purpose.

Precautions for Correct Use

Do not use the product in atmospheres or environments that exceed product ratings. Troubleshooting Problem Check point Is the power capacity insufficient? Is the sensing object within the sensing range? Is the sensing object inclined? Are there water drops on the Sensor Head? Alarm display Is the sensing object too close? Sensing display with Is sync input in use? no output display Are the low and high settings correct (in reverse)? Countermeasure Use a suitable power supply (12 to 24 VDC, 200 mA min.). Position the sensing object within the sensing range (30 to 70 mm). Adjust the inclination of the sensing object (within 2). Adjust the angle of the Mounting Bracket. Wipe the Sensor Head (vibrator) clean with a cotton swab or other means. Provide a distance from the sensing object of at least 30 mm. Short-circuit terminals (1) and (2) or connect a Sync Sensor. Set correctly so that the low setting is less than the high setting.

No sensing display

Design Mutual Interference

When installing E4DA side by side, provide a distance of at least 5 mm between them to prevent mutual interference. Mutual interference may occur if the sensing object is inclined or the E4DA are mounted opposite one another.

Adjustment Influence of Uneven Surfaces

A sensing object with an uneven surface may result in variation of the measurement value. A stable output can be obtained by using the hold function. For details, refer to page 439. Do not use the Sensor within a measurement distance of 25 mm. This area is a multiple reflection range in which the output will not stabilize. After turning ON the power, allow approximately 10 minutes for the linear output to stabilize. Use the screwdriver provided to adjust the E4DA adjusters. Using a screwdriver that is excessively large to turn the adjuster may result in damage.

Handling
Z300 Z500 Z550 Z4D-F Z4W-V E4PA-N E4DA D5V

OMRON recommends using the provided Mounting Bracket when mounting the Sensor. (The Mounting Bracket is also effective in preventing noise in locations subject to high-frequency noise). Clean dust off the vibrator surface of the sensor using a blast of air or a soft cloth or cotton swab. Do not apply pressure on or scratch the vibrator surface.

Wiring
Drops of water on the vibrator surface of the Sensor (vibrator) may decrease the measurement distance. The E4DA is provided with IP66 degree of protection, but do not use the Sensor in locations that are subject to constant spray from water. Do not use a transceiver close to the E4DA. Doing so may result in malfunction.

Other
Ultrasonic Sensors may not be capable of detecting materials that absorb sound such as powdered surfaces and cotton. Each output may be prohibited when there is no sync input. Therefore, processing to suit the application conditions is required. Set the switches so that unused functions will not operate.
