1. (a) Broadly classify the integrated circuits for a wide range of applications.
(b) What is a practical op-amp? Draw its equivalent circuit.
(c) In an op-amp, V2 = 0 (inverting terminal input). What is the voltage at
V1 (non-inverting terminal input) for an output of 5V if AOL = 50000.

2. In some measurements it is necessary to sense current from a transducer and convert
it into voltage. For a three op-amp realization of a current input instrumentation
amplifier, derive the expression for Vo. [16]
3. Draw a circuit diagram of a series voltage regulator using op-amp. Explain its
regulation action. Also obtain an expression for its output voltage. [16]
4. (a) For the all-pass filter, determine the phase shift φ between the input and
output at f = 2KHz. To obtain a positive phase shift φ, what modifications
are necessary in the circuit?
(b) What is pass band and stop band for a filter? How are filters classified? [8+8]
5. (a) List the conditions for oscillation in all the three types of oscillators, namely,
RC phase shift, wien- bridge and quadrature oscillators.
(b) Explain the difference between a signal generator and a function generator.
(c) Justify the name for quadrature oscillator. [8+8+4]
6. (a) Describe how missing pulses can be detected with the help of a 555 timer.
(b) Describe the operation of a FSK generator using 555 timer.
(c) Is the time operated in same mode for above two applications? [8+6+2]
7. (a) Describe how a PLL IC can be used for implementing Amplitude and frequency
demodulations.
(b) Define the terms ‘Accuracy’ ‘Linearity’ and ’Temperature sensitivity of a Dig-
ital to Analog converter. [10+6]
8. (a) Explain the operation of a successive Approximation type Analog to Digital
converter.
(b) Calculate the no. of bits required to represent a full scale voltage of 10 volts
with a resolution of 5m volts approximately. [10+6]

(b) Draw the frequency response and also change the center frequency to 1.5 KHz

suitable circuit diagrams.

7. (a) Explain the operation of a multiplying DAC and mention its applications.

(b) Draw the Aransdiode configuration used as a logarithmic amplifier and explain

3. (a) In a Schmitt trigger circuit with upper threshold level VUT = oV and hystersis
width VH = 0.2V converts 1KHz sine wave of amplitude 4Vpp to a square wave.
Calculate the time duration of the negative and positive portion of the output
waveform.
(b) What is the function of voltage regulator? Give important parts of a series
regulated power supply using discrete components. [8+8]

4. (a) Design a first order wide band-reject filter with a higher cutoff frequency of
100Hz and a lower cutoff frequency of 1KHz. Calculate the Q of the filter.
(b) Draw a band- pass filter circuit with its frequency response curve. Explain its
working. [8+8]

5. (a) Design a triangular wave generator using a comparator block and an integrator
block to oscillate at 4KHz and Vo (P-P)=7 Volts use an op-amp with ±15 volt
power supplies. Make necessary assumptions.
(b) What is the purpose of back-to -back set of two zenerdiodes?
(c) What is the main advantage of comparator based triangular wave generator
over free running astable multivibrator based circuit? [8+4+4]

6. (a) Draw the dc voltage versus phase difference characteristic of balanced modu-
lator phase detector of a PLL indicating all important regions.
(b) Draw the dc out put voltage of VCO versus frequency characteristic of a PLL
indicating the capture and lock range clearly.
(c) State the relationship between lock range and capture range through a math-
ematical expression. [6+6+4]

7. (a) Explain the basic technique utilized in Digital to Analog conversion using
suitable mathematical expressions.
(b) In an inverted R-2R ladder type Digital to Analog Converter R= 10kΩ VREF
= + 20 volts. Find the current in each 20 kΩ resister and the maximum
current passing into the feedback resistor of the op-amp. [8+8]

8. (a) Classify commonly available Analog to digital converters.


(b) Describe the operation of successive approximation type Analog to Digital
