Warm-up Recognizing Humor from quotes

Pre: Activity 1 Stages: Pre- Brainstorm humorous stories or quotes that they have heard in their own country or in the US SS-T Each student is supposed to tell at least one humorous story or quote from his/her culture or from the States. After they tell the stories, other students will rank the level of humor of the stories. If there are stories that are not understood, teacher draw students attention to how humor is specific to different cultures. 7mins

Read the speech therapy article by 1. Each student gets one part of the article, and David Sedaris by doing the Jigsaw they are supposed to read it and summarize it in their own words. activity 2. Let students line up according to the order of the paragraph development of the article.

Contingency Plans (what you will do if you finish early, etc.): In the first time free writing, they actually could hesitating words like well, kind of, I think when they are stuck for words; If I finish early, I make students rank the desirability of the trips that were promoted by other students, and draw their attention to how writing can be persuasive. Post-Lesson Reflection Authentic materials can really motivate students and be effective in aiming teaching goals.
