It had been over a month since Skem Athletic had played a league match, a 6-0 defeat to Burnley in the

County Cup had been their only competitive football in nearly 5 weeks due to weather and postponements. It was time to get back to winning ways and restart their challenge for the league title that has so far eluded them. It was November 17th and the opponents were Morecambe, a side who had already turned Skem over once quite convincingly, they were not about to let it happen again. They were trying to make their new home a ground to be feared, and this day was a great day to continue that story. Straight from the word go you could see Skem were in no mood for mistakes, their passing was fluid and they were first to every ball. Morecambe had their work cut out in midfield as Blackpools nemesis Ash Taylor was once again in fine form, add to that an in form right winger in Abbey Lynott and surely 3 points was a given. It was just before the half hour mark when they both combined to set up striker Abi Hart for the first goal. 1-0 Skem. Morecambe were struggling to create anything at all with Skems backline looking very strong indeed, barely unrecognisable to the team who lost 6-2 less than 2 months earlier. It was approaching half time when Taylor once again picked up the ball in midfield and beautifully put Hart through on goal to make it 2-0 at the break. Lynott was replaced by Amy Fox as she was still recovering from a knee injury sustained at Shoreline earlier in the season. The second half started in much the same way as the first had ended with Morecambe on the back foot. Their coaching team looking slightly bemused at their lack of control in a game they probably thought theyd win. It was just after the hour mark when Taylor finally got the goal she had deserved since the game kicked off. 3-0 Skem. Morecambe finally started to create a few openings, and it all seemed to be coming from the same player, a player rumoured to of stepped down from a higher level. It had taken nearly 70 minutes for her to impact the game and Skem very quickly had a job to do. Step up Skems fearless forward Gabby Buckley, who wasted no time in showing the opponent any respect and put in a hard but fair challenge, the player fell to the ground in agony after going down awkwardly under the challenge of the Skem forward. She was carried from the pitch and an ambulance called as was the severity of the injury, later diagnosed as knee ligament damage which would see her ruled out for the season. The game resumed and Skem were showing all their training had paid off with some great work straight from the training ground. Hart picked up the ball and burst into the box and headed for the dead ball line before perfectly cutting the ball back to the waiting substitute Amy Fox to tap in for her first goal for the team. Skem looked comfortable now and were just looking to see the game out when a miss hit goal kick struck a Morecambe player who promptly turned round and put the ball in to the Skem goal. 4-1. No clean sheet this week but an all round great performance, and a crucial 3 points to get them back in the race.
