Mandates Paper Media Mandates Assignment: After reading the Mandates chapter in Understanding Media Industries, watch one episode of PBS Newshour: (http://video.pbs. org/program/newshour/#), listen to one hour of the NPR evening news show All Things Considered (Mon-Fri, 3:30-6:30p on KPCC-FM 89.3, or Mon-Fri, 3:00-7:00p on KCRWFM 89.9; or you can listen to the full show or individual stories at - http: //www.npr.org/programs/all-things-considered/), watch national commercial (ABC, NBC, CBS) news (6:30pm/weekdays). Write a two-page response paper discussing how the news offered by these non-commercial outlets differed from commercial news outlets. Be sure to define these concepts and give examples. Your paper should apply concepts from the Mandates chapter and specific content from the news shows you watched and listened to. All outside sources must be cited properly using MLA or APA citation style or your paper will receive a zero. Papers should be longer than 2 pages but less than 4. Papers are due at the beginning of class week 5 (9/26). Papers must also be submitted electronically to the turnitin.com site on Blackboard in order to receive credit.
