"ll electrical work done on energised equipment, related installation(s), or with electrical s stems (e#cluding no energised work) must be in compliance with the Workplace $afet and %ealth "ct and its rele&ant subsidiar legislation' 1.0. Electrical Safety "ll personnel shall conform to the following $WP pertaining to electrical safet : 1. PERSONNEL PROTECTION ('( "ll personnel shall note the following: )e&er touch or operate electrical equipment unless ou are trained to do so' *o not operate or work on electrical equipment with wet hands )e&er tr to repair equipment unless it is our +ob' )e&er defeat or b pass electrical safet de&ices' $horts, tripped circuit breakers, blown fuses, burnt or hot wires and hot motors are all indications that there is something wrong' *o not operate such equipment' *o not block access to electrical equipment power source and distribution board' *o not o&erload electrical circuits' ,f in doubt, alwa s consult the -aintenance or refer to the Electricit "ct, where applicable' ('. /aution should be obser&ed in using all electrical tools that operate at more than fift (01) &olts, in an wet or damp location' /ords or cables should be protected from damage and be located so as not to present a tripping ha2ard' "ll electrical equipment located within the compan premises where emplo ees are e#posed to possible electrical ha2ards must be protected b de-energi2ing the power circuit and grounding it, guarding the appliance with effecti&e insulation or other appropriate means' Where electrical equipment or energi2ed parts are e#posed, suitable barriers or other measures shall be pro&ided to ensure that the work place is not used as a common passagewa ' EQ IP!ENT INST"LL"TION !eceptacles for attachment plugs shall be of appro&ed, concealed contact t pe with a contact for e#tending ground continuit and constructed so that the plug can be pulled out without lea&ing an li&e parts e#posed to accidental contact' E#tension cords used with electrical equipment shall be of three wire t pes that supplies an adequate ground' E#tension cords used should be replaced with proper electrical wiring as soon as possible as it is onl a temporar source of energ ' 5he shall be protected against accidental damage that ma be caused b traffic, sharp corner pro+ections or chemical corrosion'

5he non-current carr ing metal part of the portable and6 or plug connected equipment shall be grounded' "ll new electrical installations shall compl with the rele&ant /ode of Practice where applicable and be appro&ed b the Licensed Electrician' !"INTEN"NCE *uring maintenance, repair or clean-up operations, all power sources to equipment shall be remo&ed and de-energised' Warning tags shall be placed in prominent locations to identif the equipment or circuits that are being worked on' E#posed wirings shall be taped and co&ered after operations' /ircuits that are no longer required shall be remo&ed from the area' OPER"TION O% PORT"&LE ELECTRIC"L EQ IP!ENT "ll portable electrical equipment shall be grounded through an appro&ed three-prong polari2ed plug, or shall be of double insulated t pe' 5his includes office machines, lamps, heaters and other electrical appliances' /aution should be obser&ed in using all electric tools that operate at more than 01 &olts, in an wet or damp location' /ords or cables on electric tools should be of an appro&ed t pe' ,f cords or cables are damaged or are pulling awa from the tool connection, replace it immediatel ' *o not splice' "n electric hand tool should ne&er be suspended b its power cable in either handling or storage' /ords or cables should be protected from damage and should be located so as not to present tripping ha2ards' "lwa s check for receptacles and cable connections for damage both at the tool and plug ends' )e&er operate electric hand tools in or near an e#plosi&e atmosphere and confined spaces without prior appro&al from the W$% /ommittee /hairman' (ENER"L S"%ET) ST"N*"R*S 5he following general electrical safet standards are pro&ided as a guideline for all emplo ees' ,f in doubt, alwa s consult the -aintenance personnel :-

Electrical Equipment 9 :acilities "ll electrical equipment will be continuousl inspected to detect and correct an ha2ards which ma ha&e arisen as a result of operation and use' E#plosion Proof Equipment E#plosion proof fi#tures will be pro&ided where required, such as in areas where flammable and e#plosi&e mi#tures are present in the air' Personnel ;nl trained and authori2ed electricians will be considered qualified to install and maintain electrical facilities and power lines' /ontrols

Electrical distribution boards, switches, transformers and other ha2ardous electrical de&ices will be located where the possibilit of accidental contact is minimi2ed' 0'0 -ain distribution boards Locked enclosures or barriers will be used to protect electrical control panels from accidental contact b personnel' "ppro&ed insulating rubber mats will be pro&ided at operating stations $witches /ontrol switches must be suitabl enclosed' When circuits are being installed or repaired, the line switch must be locked <;pen= and tagged to pre&ent the circuit from being accidentall energi2ed' ;nl the person who tagged the switch is authori2ed to remo&e the tag and lock' Protecti&e *e&ices When an energi2ed circuit is to be repaired, at least . qualified electricians must work together' 5he must be outfitted with the necessar PPE to complete the +ob safel ' 5he t pe of circuit being repaired and other conditions under which the work will be done, will determine the t pe of safet equipment needed' Protecti&e equipment must be inspected frequentl to ensure that insulating qualities are adequate for complete protection' 0'> Warning $ignboards Warning signboards must be placed in prominent areas where ha2ardous electrical facilities e#ist, in particular around high &oltage fi#tures and transmission lines' @rounding 5he metal frames of electricall powered equipment, electrical facilities and their guards and transmission equipment carr ing high &oltages must be connected to effecti&e low resistance grounds' Electrical circuits must be grounded at the EA"/5 P;,)5 of intended repair or ad+ustment before the technician makes contact with that particular area of the energi2ed equipment' @rounding or shorting sticks must be used on potentiall %;5 circuits and not remo&ed until repair +obs are completed' 0'(1 E#posed @round Wires ,n locations where ground wires are e#posed to possible mechanical damage, the must be protected b suitable protecti&e conduit or de&ices' 5ransformers ;utdoor transformers must be completel enclosed b grounded chain link fences' ;nl authori2ed personnel are permitted to enter transformer installations' Pro&isions must be made all outdoor transformer areas for the safe remo&al of an oil that ma be spilled during routine maintenance work' -otors When used in areas where flammable or e#plosi&e atmospheres are present, all electric motors must be of the e#plosion proof t pe' ,t is prohibited to o&erload electric motors and unsafe wiring found must be corrected immediatel ' Whene&er the are installed, frames of electric motors must be effecti&el grounded to a low resistance ground' ;&erloading "ll s stems installed throughout the compan must be equipped with fuses, circuit breakers, or other accepted means to pre&ent accidental or unintentional o&erloading' /ords and !eceptacles Preferable electrical cords should be co&ered b rubber and be hea&il insulated' "ll cords must be inspected for signs of defects' *amaged or fra ed electrical wires, cords and plugs must be replaced immediatel '

Electronic Equipment Bsers must not attempt to ad+ust an part of electronic equipment when there is a possibilit of electrical shocks' When necessar , it should onl be attempted b a full qualified person after prior appro&al from the *epartment -anager concerned' :uses ,nsulated fuse pullers must be used to remo&e or replace fuses in %;5 circuits' ;nl fuses of the proper capacit will be used in circuits' Wire, tinfoil or solder must ne&er be used in place of a fuse' Power $witches ,f possible, main power switches should be equipped with de&ices for padlocking them <;pen= when personnel are working on the equipment' ,f padlocking is not practical, a switch tagging s stem ma be considered' 5ools and Workbenches !epair personnel must not use metal rules or un-insulated tools near circuits carr ing high &oltages' When &oltage is applied to equipment being repaired and tested, other equipment and tools not essential to the +ob must be remo&ed from the workbench' Power *istribution $ stems ,t must be padlocked to pre&ent unauthori2ed personnel from coming in contact with dangerous high &oltage circuits' When equipment must be remo&ed from ser&ice for inspection or repair, the appropriate circuit breaker must be locked open and if possible, tagged until the equipment is again read for use' ;nl trained personnel will be permitted to work on energi2ed high &oltage circuits carr ing more than 711 &olts' Personal Ceweller Electrical technicians and other repair personnel must not wear an metal ob+ects on their bod when working on high &oltage circuits and equipment' Electrical Power :ailure ,n the interest of personnel safet and protection of equipment, certain emergenc procedures are to be followed should an electrical failure occurs: ;pen containers of liquid chemicals, the use of which is restricted to &entilated hoods, shall be capped if possible, otherwise emptied into sinks and flushed with copious amounts of water to a&oid fume problems when e#haust fans cease operating' )ote: Let water run into drain at least (0 seconds before pouring chemicals into it' *; );5 mi# acids and sol&ents while pouring into the drain' E&acuate area if necessar ' Electrical equipment which can be harmed b restoration of ser&ice shall be turned off' the surge of electrical power resulting from
