#n work that in$ol$es the application of heat% or the potential generation of an source of ignition% where an e&plosi$e or flammable substance is liable to be present shall conform to the following SWP: 1. PREVENTIVE MEASURES #ll practicable measures shall be implemented where$er applicable% but not limited to the following: a) ' enclosure of the plant used in the process( b) ' remo$al or pre$ention of accumulation of the dust% gas% $apour or substance( c) ' e&clusion or effecti$e enclosure of possible sources of ignition( and d) ' the use of suitable flame-proof equipment) 'efore hot works* welding commence% the following shall be adhere to: +ot Works shall be carried out at ,esignated +ot Work #rea) -therwise% +ot Work Permit s stem procedures shall be applied before an hot work is carried out) Welders must ensure that the welding work area is free from ha.ardous material such as flammable sol$ent% e&plosi$e material etc) #rea must be well $entilated with natural $entilation and fan* e&haust duct) Workers must understand the welding equipment( ha$e the knowledge and skill to perform the task) /ew welders must ha$e proper super$ision and guidance) #ll equipment is inspected prior to use% that equipment is in good operating order and that the appropriate controls ha$e been put in place in accordance with the +ot Work Permit) !mplo ees e&posed to the ha.ards created b welding% cutting% or bra.ing operations shall use heat resistant apron% slee$es and glo$es that are appropriate for hot work operations) Protecti$e Screens shall be put in place to protect persons from the $isual effects of $iewing arc welding or cutting and during gas or o& gen cutting or welding) 0n case of fire caused b welding * hot work process% do not panic) 1se the nearest fire e&tinguisher or hose reel to put out the fire) !nsure that fire protection and e&tinguishing equipment are properl located at the work location) 2ire e&tinguishing equipment shall be readil a$ailable and be trained in its use) !nsure combustibles are protected from sources of ignition) Secure authori.ation for the cutting or welding operations from the designated management representati$e) PERMIT-To-WORK S STEM !OR HOT WORKS #n person performing 3obs that in$ol$e hot work shall appl a Permit from the Super$isor concerned% before the commencement of the 3ob) # +ot Work Permit must be completed an time an acti$it in$ol$es the use of an open flame or spark producing equipment) Such acti$ities include% but not limited to% welding% cutting% bra.ing% burning% grinding and soldering operations)
