Function o f t h er e g u l a t i nrg ing Optimum dewatering of oilscontaining wateris onlypossible if the bowlis correcily adjusted to the difference in density between the oii and the water. Theregulating ringwiththecorrect inner diameter, i,e withthediameter thatcorresponds to thedensity difference between theoil andwater, should therefore be selected fromtheset of regulating rings(with different innerdiameters) supptied with the separator andfittedin the bowl. Theinner diameter of theregulating ringto be selected canbe determined withthe aid 0f the diagram or by experiment. The ruleof thumbis: r s m a l lr e g u l a t i n r ig n gf o rh e a v yo i l , . l a r g er e g u l a t i n g ring f o rt i g h ro i t .
6.1 .1 Determining t h e s i z e The diagram canbe usedto determine of theregulating ring - the inner diameter of the regulating ringano. wirh the aid of rhe - if desiredthe density of the oil d i a gr a m (using oilpurification as for a givenseparating temperature. provided thatthedensitypf the oil is known at an exampte) a temperature between 15 oCand g0 oC.
Example
Given:
Density of oil at 20 oC
Separati ngtemperature
To be determ ined:
d = ?
7o"C = ? Poil
Inner diameter of the regutating ring according to the diagram Density of oil at 70 oC according to the diagram
d = 1 2 6m m
Poir 70"c = 0.838 kg/dm3
\ lf no regulating ringwiththedetermined inner diameter is avaitable, a smalerring can be machined to the required size. Beforedoing that, however, checkbi experiment whether theregulating ringsfurnished withiheseparator areadequate for optimum dewatering. Experience hasshownthatthe regutating ringssuppiied are normally adequate.
