1. relevance of chapter assigned in terms of the elements of the narrative 2.

what does it suggest about the writers time in renaissance 3. what are the universal themes? Universal elements? 4. similarities between the chapter assigned to the other classics. Chapter 11. 1. In this chapter the characteri!ation of "lfonso #ui$ano as being obssessive with %nighthood and chivalr& wherein he perceives all that he read from his chivalr& boo%s as realit& was shown during his long pompous speech about the so'called (olden age of %nighthood and other %night and s)uire stuff he himself onl& can understand. *n the other hand +ancho ,an!as characteri!ation as being uneducated and being stupid to believe in "lfonso #ui$anos imaginar& status as a %night was highlighted b& +anchos reluctance to sit and eat with "lfonso whom he considers his master. -e sees .on #ui$ote as a %night and himself as a %nights s)uire. 2. /enaissance is the revival of learning. It is a possibilit& that 0iguel Cervantes wrote .on #ui$ote de la 0ancha to remind people that realit& should not be intertwined with fictional stories specificall& those of the medieval times. 1his was presented b& chapter 11s depiction of .on #ui$otes distorted realit&. Chapter 11 is consistent with the novels intent to satiri!e the romance of chivalr&. 1his was the trend during the renaissance era wherein humanist writers attac% the romance literar& genre as barbarous and bac%wards. 3. *ne of the universal theme found in chapter11 is about humbling ourselves to please (od and follow the -ol& +criptures. 2e can remember .on #ui$ote sa&ing to +ancho ,an!a 3thou must seat th&self because him who humbleth himself (od e4alteth5. "nother universal theme is hospitalit& which was shown b& the goatherds towards .on #ui$ote and +ancho ,an!a wherein the& were given food and were entertained b& "ntonios ballad. Chapter12 1. In Chapter12 .on #ui4ote is again characteri!ed as mentall& unwell b& the scene wherein he is thin%ing about .ulcinea in imitation of the lovers of 0arcela. 1he atmosphere of the place wherein 0arcela shepherds is full of sadness and despair because of her numerous suitors who were unsuccessful In winning her heart. 6et I find this humorous since it is not the usual scenario that can be found in the romance literar& wor%s. It reall& is satirical in nature. 2. 1rue to the novels satirical attac% on romance literature Chapter 12 presents to the readers a different %ind of depiction about ladies in the person of 0arcela. 1he romance genre of literature presents women as submissive fragile and mart&r. 1he character of 0arcela is an opposition to that traditional misconception. +he is honest and straightforward about her decisions and doesnt let others ma%e decision to the point that her selfish suitors describe her as cold'hearted and ungrateful. 7or me it is reall& humorous and witt& on the part of 0iguel de Cervantes to portra& 0arcela as someone who grew up ver& sheltered and was %ept out of the publics e&e and then for some reason 0arcela decided to become a shepherdess and she was reall& fran% about her decisions and her feelings. "nother notable farcical scene in this chapter is when .on #ui4ote said that astrolog& is the science of celestial bodies. 3. *ne universal theme from this chapter would be about gu&s competing for a ver& beautiful lad&s affection. Competition is human nature but it seems li%e this competition between the suitors of 0arcela developed into what is called h&percompetitiveness to the point that the& get depressed and suicidal when the& get re$ected. 1his h&percompetitiveness is universal in nature because it happens in different fields li%e politics the academe sports business etc.
