Professional Experience:
Library Specialist I, Acquisitions and Rapid Cataloging Services University of Washington Libraries: Seattle, WA (July 2008 - present)
Acquisitions: Responsible for processing automated book orders using varied vendor databases. Perform complex bibliographic searching for duplicate detection. Search and verify monographic orders for print, media, and electronic material in the local integrated library system, foreign and domestic vendor databases, and publishers websites. Place orders through vendor or library online acquisitions systems. Follow up with claims on delinquent orders. Document any changes in licensing for streaming media from vendors. Process payments and credits for library accounting. Facilitate new vendors in signing up with the University of Washington payment system. Assist in creating and documenting new workflows to accommodate the change to the Ex Libris Alma Integrated Library System.
Receiving: Perform basic copy cataloging for material in a variety of formats and languages. Perform complex bibliographic searching in OCLC and evaluate records needed for copy cataloging. Overlay bibliographic records from OCLC as needed. Perform cataloging quality control as needed on orders, gifts, and other acquired materials in a variety of formats using MS Excel and Access. Track statistics for copy cataloging and quality control queries. Assist in receiving invoices for payment for Special Collections orders. Assist with student training and supervision. Implement new cataloging improvement workflows for domestic and foreign orders. Assist in creating and documenting new workflows to accommodate the change to the Ex Libris Alma ILS. Attend regularly scheduled department meetings.
Library Technician III, Health Sciences Library University of Washington Libraries: Seattle, WA 98012 (May 2001-July 2008)
Reserves:
Processed course reserves for an average of 125 courses a quarter including electronic and physical reserves using Docutek ERes, Adobe Acrobat, and Acrobat Capture to catalog, restore, and archive course readings and handouts. Communicated with faculty, staff and students on a daily basis, and used Excel for statistical reports. Made recommendations of how to provide classroom support including information on Coursepaks and Copyright compliance. Participated in regularly scheduled department meetings.
Information Desk: Provided in-depth information to library users in person and on the phone using online journals and multiple medical databases, including PUBMED, Web of Science, CINAHL, and Lexis-Nexis. Updated patron records, checked out items to patrons and placed holds on items using Innovative Millennium.
Interlibrary loan: Assisted in Document Services in pulling items for photocopying, photocopying, transmitting documents using Ariel and Prospero, and sending documents via mail.
Serials: Gathered and prepared materials for preservation and binding, including updating catalog records, submitting invoices and shipping requests, and packing materials. Received bound materials including unpacking, verifying records and invoices, marking and barcoding, creating item records, and updating check-in records.
Committees: Worked on the Library Staff Association committee helping with various fundraisers and activities including chairing the Ice Cream Social committee for 6 years.
