A warm welcome to the SingHealth Emergency Medicine Residency Program! If Emergency Medicine is your chosen speciality, we have an exciting and dynamic program ready to provide you with the finest clinical and educational environment for your Residency training. We are here to nurture Emergency Medicine specialists who are professional yet compassionate specialists who are clinically proficient, patient-centred and evidence-based in their approach. Through this program, you will be prepared as a leader in your chosen community, wherever you may choose to practice. Here, you will gain both experiential and didactic training and ample patient care experience through a variety of case mixes from SingHealth Hospitals: Singapore General Hospital (SGH), KK Womens and Childrens Hospital (KKH) and our major participating site, Changi General Hospital (CGH). All training is conducted under the supervision of our clinical core Faculty members who are recognised for their scholarly track record and passion for mentoring. You will be granted graded, progressive responsibilities as you advance. Your Emergency Medicine Residency


It is always a race against time to save lives. Emergency physicians work in hospital-based emergency departments, acute clinical situations, pre-hospital environments and a myriad of disaster scenarios. The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at SingHealth is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of unforeseen illnesses or injuries. These illnesses and injuries span the breadth of clinical Medicine and surgery.

Not just trained medical toxicologists, our Faculty pool of Clinicians includes the largest group of disaster Medicine management practitioners involved in national disaster and Hazmat programs. Diverse, exciting rotations with wide exposure


As the leading and largest public healthcare cluster in Singapore, SingHealth receives more than 500,000 undifferentiated patients with high acuity conditions every year. Get the chance to enjoy rotations in highly specialized clinical disciplines, including Singapores only Burns Centre, and gain exposure to an interesting and varied casemix that will provide you with well-rounded training perspectives in Emergency Medicine.

A nationwide hub for medical emergencies


SingHealths emergency departments function as a single stop for emergencies, well-equipped with 24-hour consultant-based coverage and subspecialty support from all medical and surgical disciplines. Core and physician Faculty are available on clinical duties, attending to patients alongside you. This helps you to learn the ropes through timely feedback, role modelling and facilitated learning.

Along the way, you will spearhead the delivery of emergency care to patients.

Your Career Prospects & Development


Opportunities abound here as an Associate Consultant. You can choose to practice in a tertiary Academic Medicine centre such as SGH or KKH or a regional healthcare institution like CGH and the upcoming Sengkang General Hospital. You can also opt for a clinical fellowship program in Pediatric Emergency Medicine with KKH Children Emergency Medicine. Consultant Emergency Physicians will enjoy the opportunity to specialize in areas ranging from Emergency Cardiac Care and Emergency Trauma Care to Disaster Medicine and Medical Toxicology. As you gain more experience, you will ultimately find yourself providing organizational and administrative leadership in your emergency department.

Your Residency Curriculum


An intensive and structured four-year training program, the SingHealth Emergency Medicine Residency Program is designed to groom you into a clinically-competent emergency physician with well-rounded exposure to clinical research, medical education and administration. Upon the completion of your Residency, you will take your skills to the next level with one additional year of advanced training, before obtaining specialist accreditation as an Emergency Physician with the Ministry of Healths Specialists Accreditation Board.

The SingHealth Emergency Medicine Residency Program has been an incredible learning experience. While doubtlessly demanding, there is no substitute for hands-on learning, which the program has in abundance. Being the largest tertiary referral center in the country, SingHealth sees the most complex and interesting cases. A well-rounded experience that places equal emphasis on the hard skills such as procedure and medical knowledge as well as the soft skills such as communication. As an Emergency Medicine Resident, I attend regular weekly teaching sessions comprising of didactic lectures, simulations and OSCEs sessions.
