The crucial factor in selecting the right lighting is the task to be performed. This is determined by the size, shape and processing rate of the workpieces and the ambient conditions. High illuminance and optimum directional lighting improve productivity, reduce error rates and cut down the risk of accidents. Uniform illumination and appropriate positioning of the luminaires prevent reected glare from the surfaces of workpieces and machinery and help avoid premature fatigue among workers. In some cases (bakeries, paint shops and furniture factories for example) it is also important to use special explosion-proof luminaires. Strip lighting with high-quality reector inserts with LUMILUX T5 uorescent lamps and QUICKTRONIC INTELLIGENT ECG enable different lamp wattages to be used for zoned illumination appropriate to the tasks involved in the workow. Whats more, LUMILUX SKYWHITE lamps with light colour 880 offer high levels of contrast for reduced eye fatigue and lower error rates, particularly for employees on shift work. If the ceiling height is greater than ve metres POWERSTAR HQI highintensity discharge lamps or OSRAM DULUX HO compact uorescent lamps can be used in reector luminaires.

Additional lighting on or in machinery with LUMILUX T5 or OSRAM DULUX provides light where more illuminance is needed either to combat shadows or to meet the needs of the specic task. Existing systems can be reused by simply replacing the lamps. Precision testing and quality assurance. Large luminaires with opaque covers and dimmable LUMILUX T5 uorescent lamps provide absolutely glare-free illumination for perfect surface inspections. The inspection of rough and structured surfaces calls for adequate shading and ideally a light source that can be adjusted to give light in different directions. This can be achieved with innovative DRAGONeye LED modules or DECOSTAR reector lamps. For colour matching using transmitted light and impinging light it is best to use special T8 uorescent lamps such as the COLOR proof lamp with a QUICKTRONIC ECG. For translucent products we recommend a self-luminous background with a luminance appropriate to the surroundings. Ideal choices here are LUMILUX T5 uorescent lamps with QUICKTRONIC INTELLIGENT DALI ECG, which enable the light to be individually adjusted. Special magnier luminaires with OSRAM DULUX S/E compact uorescent lamps connected to DULUXTRONIC ECG are useful for inspecting very small objects. Colour rendering group 1A is generally required for all lamps. The illuminance should be between 750 and 1500 lux.

Prematerials, production resources, raw materials and nished goods are mostly stored in high-ceiling spaces without natural daylight. Cramped conditions, narrow passageways and high shelving often lead to difcult lighting conditions. In fact, some areas may be in complete shadow. Goods have to be loaded and unloaded, and there are always pedestrian and vehicle movements in car parks and along access routes.
