2.201

TITLE : OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH PROMOTIONAL GUIDELINES

2.201.1 INTRODUCTION Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely an absence of disease or infirmity WHO definition of health. With this definition of health by WHO in mind EPCL has framed the HSE policy of ELEME Petrochemicals Limited. This policy will subsequently help in attaining the HSE vision. To achieve such a vision and policy a few implementation guidelines have been proposed.

2.201.2 SCOPE The scope includes all health promotional guidelines such as putting in place appropriate measures to prevent or control the health risks. Etc. 2.201.3 RESPONSIBILITY The medical unit protects the health of all employees by the risk assessment and monitoring of health at work, First aid and medical treatment, and also protects the health of staff in the following ways: assessing the health risks associated with the living environment and life style, Health education programs.

2.201.4 PROCEDURE

The occupational health (OH) programme at EPCL consists of two key elements:

HEALTH PROMOTION, COMPRISING

4.2.1. Assessment of health risks associated with the living environment, life Style. 4.2.2. Health education programme. 4.2.3. Record keeping. EPCL has identified at design stage, an inventory of the potential physical, Mechanical, chemical, biological, ergonomic and psychological hazards associated with work and working environment.

Risk to health with exposure to health hazards has been evaluated and appropriate measures have been introduced to prevent or control the health risks. Proper exposure records will be maintained for exposure and health surveillance to identify general health trends and problem areas for action. To fulfill mandatory requirement and to safe guard against unjustified compensation claims. These records could be useful in future for epidemiological studies.

All employees will be provided with information and trained at work regarding policy and procedures regarding Occupational Health Center.

Majority of the employees will be trained in First Aid, in life saving techniques such as resuscitation, care of unconscious and control of bleeding.

The sickness absenteeism will be monitored with a view to identify work related ailments and effective rehabilitation of employees after long-standing or serious disease.

The health promotion activities will prevent health risks associated with.

Living environment and lifestyle such as infectious diseases (Immunization and prophylaxis)i Inadequate nutrition (by information). Use of tobacco, alcohol & other drugs (by employees assistance programmes NGO, or other social welfare organization) Lack of exercise and physical fitness (by information and fitness program) EPCL has built a Medical Center on site, which is manned 24 hours, and managed by doctors.

This center renders medical services for work injury and emergency cases. The center also caters to treatment/advice/referral for non-work related illness. In connection with this, system for approaching the center for medical attention is in place.

The center will have facility to carry out following (Some of which are statutory requirement. Preplacement medical examination Periodical medical examination

OH department will also arrange health protection/promotion talk, such as Blood pressure Obesity Diabetes Ergonomics Nutrition
