CONSIDER THIS PREPOSITION

2 Tim 3:16-17

I. EVEN SMALL WORDS MEAN WHAT THEY SAY.

A. “Down” means down.
1. Acts 8:26 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward
the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.
B. “Up” means up.
1. John 2:12-13 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his
brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.
13 And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
II. CONSIDER THIS PREPOSITION: “IN.”
A. “In” means “contained or enclosed by; within.”
B. What is found in Christ?
1. The love of God.
a. Rom 8:35-39
b. 2 Tim 1:13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in
faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
2. Redemption/forgiveness of sins.
a. Rom 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in
Christ Jesus:
b. Col 1:12-14
3. Salvation.
a. 2 Tim 2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also
obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
4. Fellowship and continual cleansing from sin.
a. 1 John 1:5-7
5. Life.
a. 1 Cor 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
6. Victory.
a. 2 Cor 2:14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in
Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
7. God’s eternal purpose.
a. 2 Tim 1:8-9 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of
me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his
own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

III. CONSIDER THIS PREPOSITION: “INTO.”
A. “Into” means “from the outside to the inside of; toward and within.”
B. How do we get from the world to being “in” Christ?
1. Getting “into” Christ.
a. Rom 6:3-4 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ
were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead
by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
b. Gal 3:26-27 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
