Be it known that I, J. C. PRICE, of New Philadelphia, i_n the county oi' Tiiscarawas, and State of' Ohio, have invented a new and improved Hoisting-Taokle; and I do hereby declare-that the following is arfull, clear,

This invention relates to a new and improved tackle forhoisti'ng articles generally, such, for instance,.as hay from wagons into the bays> of barns, goods in warehouses, etc., etc. The object of the invention is to obtain a .device for the purpose specified, which will admit of the articles being hoisted, and also conveyed, when
in an elevated state, to the place where they are to be deposited. I ' Y

A A represent two plates, which may be of metal, and have three wheels or pulleys, B B B, fitted between
them, the upper two of which, B B, run on a rope or wire, C, which serves as a way orguide and is stretched taut over the spot where the articles are to be raised and stored. D is the hoisting-rope which works over they

lower wheel, B', and has a conical "collar, E, upon it, and a ring, F,just above the collar, as shown in gfl. The
article to be raised is attached to one end 'of this rope and the other end is attached to a wi-ndlass by which the

article is hoisted. G is a clamp, composed lof a curved bar, secured by a pin or pivot bolt, ai, between thev two plates A A4. One arm of this clamp has a cord, H, attached to it which -extends down vwithin reach of the operator or attendant. This clamp, G, serves to hold the plates A and pulleys'rB B B in'position on the rope C when the article is being elevated, the operator, by pulling on the oord H, causing the clamp G- tob-ind against the ro er C.' When the article is nearly elevated, the conical collai- E will come in contact with the lower end of the clamp G, the end which has the cord H attached, and throws up said end so that the clamp will not bind against the rope @,and the wheels or pulleys B B will then, under the pull on rope D, be moved- on therope C'and the hoisted or elevated article be moved along over the spot where> it is to be deposited. The ring F prevents the load descending, in consequence of catching against a lip, a, at the under side oi' the clamp, when tl.' lower erin thereol-` is released, audit is designed to have tle rope C' slightly inclined so that the Wheels or pulleys, B B,

may pass back by their own gravity, the ring F catching against the lip a', when the clamp is in the position showh in red, tig. 1, the clamp assumingthis position by virtue of its own gravity as soon asvthe operator ceases
to pull on cord H. l

vThis invention is capableI of very general application for hoisting purposes, and will answer admirably well

for elevating and moving hay in barns, merchandisey in warehonses, and like purposes.
