Manipal is a large hospital or health care organization. It has following facilities: 600 hundred beds. Over 720 consultants. Over 1700 well trained staff. Over 43 specialities. ICU units. Operation theatres with well equipped machines and staffs for their maintenance. Around 5000 staffs including doctors and surgeons. Multi speciality service under one roof. Emergency unit in the same building but different entrance. Layout is well designed for physically enabled person to travel within hospital. Easy access to reception/help desk. 24*7 High Tech ambulance service. 24*7 Pharmacy. 24*7 Blood Bank. Valet parking which can accommodate around 350 cars and 400 two wheeler. The whole building has 6 lift running parallel each of which being operate by an operator. So, in case of any emergency every floor has a lift ready at to go up or down. Their lift everyone can reach operation theatres or ICUs and WARDS which are situated in both side of staircase and lifts.

SHORTCOMINGS:
Manipal Hospital has quite a few superlatives to its credit. Being rated as the best multi-specialty hospital in Bangalore by THE WEEK magazinefor the seventh time in a row-is one. Finding its name in a list of medical marvels-like conducting 10 different surgeries on one person in seven hours, believed to be the first of its kind in India-is another. Manipal has its competitors like NARAYANA HRUDALAYA,NIMHANS, APOLLO and FORTIS which also provide all services and has better facilities. Success of these health care centres can be a big challenge for Manipal. Over next three years, Manipal is targeting revenue of 2,000 crore from current 700 crore. From their 5000 beds altogether they are soon planning to increase it to over 8,000 beds. Manipals current EBIDTA margin is 18%, in the next three year they are targeting between 23 to 25 percent.

RECOMENDATION:
Manipal has a big campus, but it has an option to improve its parking area. As the parking area is way inside the campus and most of that area is unused. People dont like parking their vehicles there and walk all the way to the hospital and which become hectic for patients. Manipal could have brought the parking size down and compact and use that area for some other constructive use. Their emergency ward is congested which cannot accommodate many people at a time which they can surely optimize by using the space they use for keeping books in a store which part nobody visits. Their canteen space is also not utilized well. They can give much more emphasis on their WAITIG LINE MANAGEMENT.

COST BENIFIT ANALYSIS:

Fed up with its error-prone manual processes, Manipal Hospitals turned to a Health Information System, increasing its revenue by about 20 percent. Manipal had a manual data entry system which affected their revenues negatively and customer waiting time was also more. So, Nandkishor Dhomne, CIO, Manipal Health Enterprises decided to automate the hospital's tardy processes with a Web-based health information system (HIS). He zeroed in on Intersystem's TrakCare. With its clinical and administrative modules it keeps a track of all the departments of the hospital including registration, patient care coordinators, doctors, laboratory, pharmacy, and billing. Thanks to HIS, Manipal Hospital has seen a sharp increase of 15-20 percent in its revenue. "Nearly half of this comes from our ability to better utilize the doctor's time and cater to more patients and the remainder comes from plugging various sources of revenue leakages," says Dhomne. By keeping track of its inventory online and ensuring that the Quantity on Hand (quantity of goods immediately available) was above re-order levels, the hospital was able to serve the patients better and improve satisfaction levels.
