LITHUANIA IT WAS a great pleasure to judge the CACIB shows and a Sighthound Club Show in Druskininkai, a short distance from Vilnius. It was my first visit to Lithuania and the weather was sunny from my arrival on Thursday until I left late on Monday. When visiting Vilnius it is very easy to under- stand why Vilnius is the European Capital of Culture 2009. Apanel of international judges from all over the world was invited and the shows were excellently organised by an efficient team of workers and ring stewards all under the watchful eyes of Ramune Kazlauskaite, President of the Lithuanian Kennel Club, and the Vice President Natalia Nekrosiene. Throughout the weekend, I was very impressed with the high quality of the dogs I saw. I was particularly impressed with the Pharaoh Hounds. There were a nice number of Pharaohs entered by local breeder Auks Mackeviciene from the kennel Gintariniai Namai. The kennel showed excellent true Pharaohs with excellent temperaments, and sound all over. From Russia I was shown Pharaohs from the Reddly Road kennel - all were beautifully well built and excel- lent movers. The champion male to whom I awarded BIG 1 on Friday also ended up Best in Show at the club show, closely followed by an outstanding Saluki who moved like the wind. On the Friday I judged Group 5 where a lot of beauti- ful dogs were shown to me. I awarded the top place to the Pharaoh Hound, Reddly Road Deep Blue, bred and han- dled by Maria Evteeva from Russia. Second place went to the luscious Keeshond, Eswood Nereida, and finally the American Akita, Melodor Burn the Witch. The Pharaoh Hound later took third place in the BIS competi- tion judged by Karri Jrvinen from Finland. On the Saturday I had my debut as Poodle judge where I was presented with a line-up of beautiful Poodles. The black medium sized Poodle, Sajuri Lietaus Simfonija, became group winner and finally won the BIS. I spent some lovely days in Lithuania and I thank the Lithuanian Kennel Club and the Lithuanian Sighthound Club for inviting me.
