A DAILY GUIDE FOR CHRISTIANS

1 Thess Ch 4, 5

BE GROWING.
1 Thess 4:1
so ye would abound more and more.

KEEP YOURSELF PURE.

1 Thess 4:7-8
7 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.
8 He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.

BE LEARNING TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER MORE.

1 Thess 4:9-10
9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love
one another.
10 And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye
increase more and more;

EXAMINE YOURSELVES (DAILY); BE INTROSPECTIVE (2Cor 13:5).

5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how
that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

1 Thess 4:11-12
11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we
commanded you;
12 That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.

LIVE ASSURED THAT WE WILL BE TOGETHER WITH LOVED ONES WHO DIED IN CHRIST.
1 Thess 4:13-18
13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not,
even as others which have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with
him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the
Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the
trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in
the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

BE AWARE.
1 Thess 5:6
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

Eph 5:14-16
14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly , not as fools, but as wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
1
RESPECT AND APPRECIATE THE WORK OF THE ELDERS.
1 Thess 5:12-13
12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and
admonish you;
13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

LET THOSE WHO REQUIRE PATIENCE INCREASE YOUR PATIENCE.

1 Thess 5:14
14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be
patient toward all men.

OVERCOME EVIL WITH GOOD.

Rom 12:19-21
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine;
I will repay, saith the Lord.
20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals
of fire on his head.
21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

1 Thess 5:15
15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves,
and to all men.

LIVE REJOICING.
Phil 4:4
4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice .

1 Thess 5:16
16 Rejoice evermore.

BE PRAYERFUL, FIRST GIVING THANKS.

1 Thess 5:17, 18
17 Pray without ceasing.
18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

1 Thess 5:25
25 Brethren, pray for us.

DO NOT REJECT THE WORD OF GOD; LET IT FORM AND CONTROL YOUR CONSCIENCE.
1 Thess 5:19
19 Quench not the Spirit.

1 Thess 5:19
Anything that will tend to damp the ardor of piety in the soul; to chill our feelings; to render us cold and lifeless
in the service of God, may be regarded as "quenching the Spirit." Neglect of cultivating the Christian graces, or
of prayer, of the Bible, of the sanctuary, of a careful watchfulness over the heart, will do it. Worldliness, vanity,
levity, ambition, pride, the love of dress, or indulgence in an improper train of thought, will do it. It is a great
rule in religion that all the piety which there is in the soul is the fair result of culture. A man has no more
religion than he intends to have; he has no graces of the Spirit which he does not seek; he has no deadness to the
world which is not the object of his sincere desire, and which he does not aim to have. Any one, if he will, may

make elevated attainments in the divine life; or he may make his religion merely a religion of form, and know
little of its power and its consolations.

RESPECT AND APPRECIATE GOD’S WORD.

1 Thess 5:20
20 Despise not prophesyings.

USE GOD’S WORD TO EVALUATE EVERYTHING ELSE.

1 Thess 5:21
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

Acts 17:10-11
10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into
the synagogue of the Jews.
11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind,
and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

BE THOU AN EXAMPLE.
1 Thess 5:22
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

1 Tim 4:12
12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity,
in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Ps 1
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor
sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also
shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

TREAT BROTHERS AND SISTERS AS BROTHERS AND SISTERS.

Rom 12:10
10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

1 Thess 5:26
26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
