EL2-4 At the end of the experiment, students should be able to: 1) Connect the series-parallel circuit correctly.

2) Determine the total value of resistor for the circuit. 3) Measure the voltage value that crossing the resistor using the correct method. 4) State the characteristics of the circuit accurately.

Theory: In this circuit, the series and parallel are joined together. The combination of series and parallel circuit is known as combination circuit. The diagram below show example of 3 methods resistors are joined in the circuit.

Ij R1 V + R3 R2 Rj ( selari) + V I1 R1 R3 R2 Rj (bersiri)

Rj (bersiri)

To get the total resistor in the series-parallel circuit, follow the step below: 1.Recognise the resistor group. 2.Use the formula to determine total resistor series and parallel ( R series and R parallel ) 3.Combine R series and R parallel to get the total value of resistor, R.

Apparatus: 1-Decade resistors. 2-Ammeter. 3-Voltmeter. 4-Multimeter. 5-Power supply. Procedures: 1) Setting the value of resistor to R=100 , R=300 . 2) Connect the circuit as shown below: R R R

3) Set the value of voltage supply as V=10 . 4) Using the ammeter, measure the current flow through each line. Make sure the polarity are correct.

Result/Data: Measure the value of the voltage across each resistor using voltmeter. Then fill in the table below. Resistor () R=100 R=200 R=300 R=220 Current (A) I= 47 mA I= 26mA I=19 mA I=45.45 mA Voltage (V) V= 4.2 V v=5.7 V V= 5.7 V V= 9.9 V

Calculation and answer(theoretical): V, V, V, V and V: V=IT RT = (0.045) (100) = 4.5 V V & V,= V- V = 10 V - 4.5 V = 5.5 V V= (0.045) (220) = 9.9 V I, I, I, and I: I= = = 0.045 A = 45mA I= = = 0.0275A = 27.5mA I= = = 0.0183A = 18.3mA R: Ra= = = = = 120 + + Conclusion:

R= R+ Ra = 100+120 = 220

Discussion: 1) State the current value that flow through each resistor in the above circuit: =The current value that flow through each resistor are not same and the current being lower from one resistor to another resistor.

2) Compare the value voltage V, V, V and V. Give the conclusion: =The value of voltage at V & V are same because the circuit is parallel. However its not same with V because the circuit is series.

Conclusion and recommendation: =As the conclusion, we got to know that the result from the experiment and the theoretical are almost same. We also got to know that the voltage on the parallel circuit are same but the current are different. In the series circuit, the value of voltage are different but the current are same.
