3nstallation is done using the nati"e installers a"ailable on each system and the -a"a installer. !his means that installation only re%uires that you: if necessary: unpack the installation image and launch the specified tool. 7sing the nati"e installer mostly pro"ides better upgrades than not using it.

1pgrading for all users


$hared data such as fonts: e,tensions and templates here the full installation has been performed for all users on a system: ill be lost after upgrading the soft are. 3n an installation for one user the shared data ill be kept after the upgrade. !o keep these files in a multiNuser en"ironment: backup your files prior to installation and install these after upgrade.

Anti irus and firewalls


3f you are ha"ing problems ith running certain files or programs hile ha"ing anti"irus or fire all on: you may need to deacti"ate or close these functions on your system to complete the installation of the soft are. 3f you disconnect to the 3nternet for security purposes hile these functions are deacti"ated or closed: you must connect to the 3nternet again after installation if you ant to register )pen)ffice.org. Product registration is not re%uired: and it can be done later if you ish. For more information about your protection soft are: please consult the soft areKs documentation or "endor.

1pgrading between ma2or ersions


(hile an installation of )pen)ffice.org can be upgraded to a ne er "ersion: e recommend that you do not upgrade on your system from one ma8or "ersion to another: e.g. from 5.0 to 9.0. 3nstead: remo"e the older installation before installing the ne er one. 7pgrading ithin a ma8or release: e.g. from 9.1 to 9.5: is fine.

Single or multi3user installation


!he soft are can be installed in primarily t o ays: a single installation or a multi&user installation. 3n a multiNuser installation the soft are is installed once and is then a"ailable to all users of the system. Jou need Administrator permissions on the system to perform this kind of installation. 3n a singleNuser installation the soft are is only installed for the user account you are logged in ith during installation. Choose the installation that is the best for your situation.

For e,ample: install all core rpms and then install those for each module you ish: such as: openoffice.org*impress*". . *1.i=>?.rpm to install only 3mpress. )ther modules may also be necessary.
Note: Jou may substitute *i3+ for *U3+ in any of the abo"e commands to install ithout upgrading. Note: 3f you ha"e a system that does not ha"e an upNtoNdate rpm or if rpm installation fails: try to use the **nodeps flag to install "ia rpm ithout ha"ing the dependent packages in the rpm database.

! o ays are a"ailable for installing )pen)ffice.org on a $olaris ,&6 or $PARC system. !he -a"a installer is the recommended ay: but choose the method that is a"ailable and most comfortable to you.

!he -a"a installer pro"ides a graphical interface and thus simplifies installation and uninstallation of the soft are. !his is the recommended ay of installing on $olaris.

A $tandard 3nstallation installs the most commonly used features: used by must users. !he installer ill select these features for you. 3t is recommended for most users. A CustomiMed 3nstallation lets you select the features that you ant installed. 7se this feature if you are "ery familiar ith the components that make up )pen)ffice.org: and ant that fle,ibility. 3t is recommended for po er users and administrators. Choose the type of installation that is right for you. &.
