Needing a friend: Wow, who's she?

Bible Passage: Genesis 2:18-25 Bible Truth: It was not good for man to be alone, so God created woman. Lesson Objective: That students realize how man and woman were made b God to com!lement each other. What ou need: some sort of music" a few sheets of blan# !a!er and !encils" !a!er, scissors, glue, cra ons, mar#ers, stic#ers, ribbon or other su!!lies for ma#ing awards O!ening: $irdie on a !erch. %a&e music read ahead of time. 'i&ide the grou! in half, o!timall into gu s and girls, and then ha&e each !erson get a !artner from the other grou!. The girls, the (birdies,( form one circle and the gu s, the (!erches,( form a larger circle around the girl)s circle. *hen ou begin !la ing the music the inner circle should wal# cloc#-wise and the outer circle counter-cloc#wise. *hen ou sto! the music, e&er one needs to find their !artner and the birdies need to sit on their !erches +to do this the (!erches( #neel on one #nee and the (birdie( sits on their other #nee., The last !air to get together is out. The ob-ect is to be the last !air in the game. Gauge our !la ing time according to how much time ou ha&e for the meeting, but about 5 to 1. minutes is good. /ote: the game is more fun if ou ma#e them go faster and faster until students are running in their circles. To ma#e the game shorter, ma#e the last two or three !airs go out each time. "nteractive Learning: 0s# all of the girls to sit in a circle while all of the gu s sit in another circle and gi&e each grou! a !iece of !a!er and a !encil. Tell them the ha&e four minutes to write down e&er thing the li#e about the o!!osite se1. This will !robabl include e&er thing from the wa the loo#, to character attributes, but e1!lain that no negati&e comments or -o#es are acce!table. 0fter the time is u!, ha&e the students form one large circle with a chal#board where e&er one can see it. 'raw a line down the middle of the board and write (male( as the heading for one side and (female( for the other. %a&e the students call out items from their lists, alternating between males and females, and write their comments on the board under the !ro!er heading. 0gain guide the discussion in a !ositi&e direction and do no write down an negati&e comments. Then discuss, How are males and females similar? +both are !eo!le" both created in the image of God, How are they different? +!h sicall , etc,
How do the qualities you have listed complement each other? +for e1am!le: men are generall stronger so the
can lift hea& things so a lad doesn)t ha&e to,

Why do you think God chose to make mankind both male and female? +the most ob&ious answer is (to be able
to re!roduce( which is of course an as!ect, but remind the students that there are s!ecies that !rocreate without a !artner but God choose not to ma#e us that wa , so encourage them to come u! with other answers ,

Bible #!!lication:
This week we continue our study of Adam and Eve by looking at why God created Eve !"m sure almost everyone here knows the story of how Eve was created Would someone be willing to tell us all what happened? (0llow a student to describe how God made her from 0dam)s rib and then than# them for their hel! ) Eve wasn#t created from Adam"s head to rule over him$ or from his feet$ indicating an inferior position %he was created from his rib$ near his heart the symbol of love and intimacy &en and women are equal in their worth in God"s eyes$ but they have distinct functions and personalities The woman is the 'suitable helper' for the man (Gn )*+,- while he is to protect and care for her .art of the image of God (that we talked about two weeks ago- is e/pressed uniquely in the woman and part in the man0 together in harmony they fully e/press his image (+*)1 - 2et#s returning to that passage we studied two weeks ago and see what these verses teach us about the relationship between men and women

%a&e a student to read Genesis 1: 22-3. out loud, then as#,

What do we learn about males and females from v )1? +both men and women are created in the image of God, 3rom v ),4 +both males and females are gi&en the res!onsibilit to fill the world and to rule o&er it,

%o we see that what men and women have in common is their essence$ their nature They equally bear the image of God and so have equal dignity and value in God#s eyes

Adam had a close relationship with God and he was accompanied by all of the animals$ so why did God decide to make Eve? +because 0dam needed to ha&e a relationshi! with another !erson, What comes to your mind when you hear the words 'suitable helper'?

4sually we think of a 'helper' as someone who is lower than we are and whose 5ob is to serve us 6ut when we are studying the 6ible$ instead of assuming that we understand what a word or idea means$ it is very important study what God intends to communicate by that word or idea We do this by studying this word or idea in other places in the 6ible 7ead .salm 89*9 and Hebrews +:*; Who is the 'helper' in these verses? (God) !n what specific ways is God our 'helper'? How does thinking of God as a 'helper' change your idea of what a 'helper' is? With this biblical idea of helping in mind$ what are some ways that men need 'help' from women? What are some ways women need 'help' from men?

$o%%it%ent:
God gave mankind a wonderful gift when he created us as males and females God knows that we need to have relationships with other humans We need the love and intimacy of these relationships He made us to be need each other in many ways <ther people have skills and talents that help us and we have abilities and strengths that they need God wants our lives to be enriched through our relationships with others$ but very often sin and pride get in the way We#re going to spend a few minutes asking God to help us in our relationships with the people he has put into our lives
8This !ra er can be lead in &arious wa s. The leader can sa the o!ening !hrases and the students can silentl com!lete the thought or the can !ra out loud. 9r ou can write these !hrases on !a!er and gi&e the students time to fill them out silentl .:
