"Adjunct and Part-Time Faculty Recognition Day Proclamation

PROCLAMATION TO COMMEMORATE Adjunct, Full and Part-Time Faculty Recognition Day WHEREAS, adjunct, full and part-time non-tenured faculty teach close to 50% of the classes in public and private colleges and universities across the state of Illinois. WHEREAS, the use of adjunct and full and part-time faculty is increasing at universities and institutions of higher education; and WHEREAS, these faculty members are highly qualified and experienced, but receive lower salaries and lack job security; and WHEREAS, having adjunct and full and part-time faculty allows institutions of higher learning to offer variety in their courses and programs, and to be responsible to the quickly-changing landscape awaiting graduates; and WHEREAS, adjunct and full and part-time faculty bring a multitude of talents, skills, and areas of expertise to their teaching; and WHEREAS, such faculty should be recognized, awarded, and fully appreciated for their dedication and service to the citizens of the state of Illinois; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Patrick Quinn, Governor of the state of Illinois, do hereby proclaim October 30, 2013 as Adjunct and Full and Part-time Faculty Recognition Day in Illinois, and I urge all people in our state to join me in this special observance.
