A. Schraer. (2008) said, workplace safety is about preventing injury and illness to
employees and volunteers in the workplace. Another suggested action need to be taken is;
Addressing Safety and Health Hazards in the Workplace, Job hazards analysis, Workplace safety
program, Workplace Injury and illness prevention, Size does not matter, Create ownership of the
program and measuring performance.
All these will be detailed explain in the next topic under recommendations.
PROBLEMS IDENTIFYING
10
Arrogance
Many managers believe that accidents are something that happens to other people, and therefore,
workplace safety is not a priority. Without a passionate commitment to establish and maintain a
culture of safety, management will try to remain ignorant of the cost of accidents and injuries.
Furthermore,
management knows too well how the reporting of claims will impact their
workers' compensation insurance and has instituted a culture of intimidation in which employees
and volunteers will be encouraged not to report injuries or accidents. They believe that no news
is good news, and that by exerting their influence, they can suppress these reports.
Clueless Managers
Managers who are clueless display a lack of understanding about the costs, human and financial
or also fatal of injury, illness and unsafe conditions faced toward workers at organization. Some
managers do not even know that their nonprofit such as must obtain workers compensation
insurance. Perhaps they think that if they ignore it long enough, it will go away. Refusing to
11
Lack of Accountability
Managers, who are not held accountable for insurance costs, generally ignore the incidence of
accidents, injuries and/or other claims. Their belief is: "We have insurance and who cares?" This
attitude will not change unless there are significant and unpleasant consequences associated with
it. Safety conscious nonprofit needs to start at the top, literally. The board of directors needs to
adopt and enforce consequences for unsafe conditions.

volunteers to see. When all employer and employee sees these safety policies on the sign and
statements, all workers need to clearly understand and follow these policies. That is easy to
understand. Just read and try as much as you can as workers to apply it in the organizations.
By doing such thing like this, employer in the organization must develop and comply
with procedures that are certified a professional (management) as designed to ensure the thing is
done in a safe manner and having a equipment certified as safe to operate professional
(management) at least. Alberta13(2). (2009)
Workplace Analysis
During the accidents or to gain information that valid and trusted the organization also
must provide n analysis of workplace conditions to identify and eliminate existing and potential
hazards. Organization also must provide an outline of the procedure such as forms for reporting
hazards where individual can use it properly and also can use it as a guide.
By using an appropriate form including the guided procedures in process of workplace analysis it
must reviewed by a competent person or using the nonprofit seeks assistance, if necessary, from
safety and health experts. Then these outline or report must be printed and confidentially used it
as a reference if any hazard or accidents happens in the future.
COST INVOLVED
Therefore, it's about protecting the nonprofit's most valuable asset: its workers. By protecting the
employees and volunteers well-being, the nonprofit reduces the amount of money paid out in
health insurance benefits, workers' compensation benefits and the cost of wages for temporary
help. Also factor in saving the cost of lost-work hours (days away from work or restricted hours
or job transfer), time spent in orienting temporary help, and the programs and services that may

Herman. (2010), said the long term effects or such accident, result maybe vary, and
depending how serious and long lasting the injuries are. The injured employee may face a long
battle with treatment and rehabilitation before returning to work. For that employee, the physical
and psychological effect may take long time to overcome. The financial burden on the employee
and their family may cause undue stress as well.

Program Review
Under these programs requires employers to review the entire program at least annually
and document the findings. Program review is vital, because it serves as a check to see if the
organization is making progress toward goal of creating a safer, healthier workplace for all
employees. It also determine whether the procedure used in the facility are consistent with those
described in the program and if they are effective. If the method are not being used or used
incorrectly, the auditor need to determine what barriers are present then suggest the correct
application of the methods if necessary. Minnesota. OSHA. (2012)
It is important to organization to have this type of program review. If the organization
did not meet the safety workplace goals that established, the organization need to give a better
explanation or in the other way the organization will be sue by the Occupational Health and
Safety Department (OHSD). Therefore these programs can increase the awareness of the
organization to check and review regularly the policies and procedures of their safety at their
workplaces.
