What is UniCA and what does it do ? KEMAs UniCA 61850 Analyzer enables you to capture and analyze IEC 61850 communication traffic on Ethernet networks in substations. UniCA is the tool for: Capture and analyse IEC 61850 messages on the substation LAN Measure GOOSE performance Network (health) monitoring Verifying system configurations Acceptance, inter-operability and performance protocol testing IEC 61850 product development The UniCA Analyzer plays an important role in identifying and minimizing interoperability risks in todays IEC 61850-based substation networks and allows faster roll out of projects (by verifying performance and interoperability).
Install the UniCA software, connect the PC or Notebook to the network, press the Capture button and your network communication is analyzed and displayed immediately !

UniCA not only displays IEC 61850 communication packets in human readable format and comprehensible text, but also automatically analyses the packets and reports the detected errors because it understands IEC 61850 protocol and SCL definitions! This also enables engineers without detailed protocol knowledge to use and understand the output of this analyzer. You can also email UniCA logs to KEMA to get an expert opinion and discuss results.
