I. Graph Interpretation
1. This graph shows the Paramecium survival rates from
an experiment. Based on the data in the graph, which
of the following statements is true?
a. As the temperature increases, the number of paramecia that survive
during the experiments always increases.
b. The number of paramecia that survive as the temperature increases
is greater than the number of paramecia that are alive at the
minimum temperature.
c. The number of paramecia surviving during the experiment always
decreases.
d. The number of paramecia that survive during the experiment
increases then decreases as the temperature increases

4. This graph shows the percent of U.S. students enrolled in physical education.
Based on the data in the graph, which of the following statements is true
a. The percent of males and females enrolled in physical education classes
exceeds 50% for every grade level represented.
b. The percent of males and females enrolled in physical education classes
decreases as the grade level increases.
c. The percent of females enrolled in physical education classes remains
constant at 60% for each grade level represented.
d. The percent of males enrolled in physical education classes continues to
increase as the grade level increases.

VI. Word Problem
James collected 50 mice to use in his experiment. He gave 10 of the mice Gatorade, another 10 Powerade,
another 10 normal water, another 10 Tang, and the final 10 Sprite. James made sure the temperature stayed at
25°C throughout the experiment as well as ensured that the mice were not from different species. James
measured the time it took for each mouse to complete the maze. He recorded in his lab notebook that some
mice made sounds going through the maze while others remained quiet. He also recorded that some mice
finished the maze in 3 minutes whereas others took as long as 12 minutes.
18. The control group was the group receiving: a. 25°C b, Gatorade c. Water d. Species e. Sprite
19. One constant in the experiment was: a. Water b. Species c. Time d. Gatorade e. Sound
20. The IV was: a. Time b. Sound c. Temperature d. Drink Type e. Species
21. The DV was: a. Time b. Sound c. Temperature d. Drink Type e. Species
22. An example of quantitative data: a. Maze b. Three minutes c. Species d. Made Sounds
23. An example of qualitative data: a. Was Quiet b. lab notebook c. Maze d. Three minutes
