Amendment Books

Students will be creating a book on the Amendments. The purpose is to understand the rights guaranteed under
each of these amendments and how they are applied in society today.

Instructions:
• Create a book out of the sheets of paper provided in class. There are various ways you can create the
book.
• Divide the book into sections for each amendment. They can be ¼ page, 1/2 page or full pages for each
amendment.
• For each amendment (1-10, 13-15), you must complete the following tasks:
o Write the amendment as the title.
o Write a summary of the rights and meaning of the amendment in your own words.
o Draw or paste a picture illustrating the main point of the amendment.
o Write examples of how this amendment is applied in different circumstances in society
(complete sentences). This isn’t just listing the rights again, but giving examples of how it has
been interpreted regarding different specific scenarios. This will be what we can and can’t do
regarding this amendment’s rights. Each amendment will require a different number of examples.
Some won’t require any examples. See below.
 An example for the 1st amendment would be that we have the right to burn the flag
(Free Speech).
o Make your book colorful and neat.

Number of examples for each amendment:

1st: 5 2nd: 2 3rd: 1 4th: 2 5th: 5 6th: 3 7th: 1

8th: 3 9th: 3 10th: 1 13th: 2 14th: 3 15th: 2
