An Asian Wedding Show at The ACE Centre, Nelson on Saturday 30 November 2013 proved a big hit with hundreds of people attending. There were a whole range of wedding stalls including some beautiful clothing and a great fashion show. Visitors also sampled some delicious food served by the ACE Centres Hospitality team. Nelsons born and bred singer Kiran Khan was on stage and she was very impressive, and there was pianist Bobby Bollywood too.

A traditional harpist played beautiful music to welcome visitors. Sean Lawler, Manager of the Ace Centre commented, This was a very successful event and it brought all the community together. We plan to hold a similar event next year to showcase the wonderful facilities the Ace Centre has to offer and support and promote local businesses who specialise in Weddings and special events. Next years event will be a lot bigger... we cant wait.

For further information about holding events at the Ace Centre, please call 01282 661080 or email bookings@acecentre.co.uk.

A friend of mine last year said to me that he will not be going to the sales after Christmas and New Year as he ends up spending money on too many unnecessary items and clothing. Once he gets home he realises that he has spent too much than he could afford. However when the credit card bills arrive through the post thats when he wishes that he had not spent too much. This is the case with many of us however if you have a resolution this year I suggest you try to stick to it. Last year I made a few resolutions myself, however due to lack of willingness I only managed to achieve a few goals. One of them was based on improving my health. I enjoy my junk food and I decided that in 2013 I will cut down on my junk intake. So in order to try and fulfil that resolution I decided to seek help and advice. I managed to get a personal health trainer and after a couple of weeks of planning, consultations, setting targets and goals and changing eating habits, I managed to make a big difference to my health. The targets were small but they made a big impact to my life. I successfully managed to make a lifestyle change through this health trainer service provided by my local council. These types of goals are not easy to achieve. You do need confidence and the will power and some support and motivation from family and friends. Whatever new things you feel you want to do in life, or if you feel you want to start afresh then it is never too late. Anything is possible. You just need to focus, seek relevant advice from the right people and you can achieve your goals and ambitions.

First of all a very Happy New Year and I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. As 2014 starts we will be thinking where the whole year just disappeared to and many will be thinking about how fast it flew by. As we enter 2014 there will be many of you who will have decided to do something different this year and make a resolution.

I remember a close friend and colleague of mine who had a terminal illness and was told that he would only live for around 2 more months; however, because of his willingness and willpower he stayed another few years. Unfortunately he died last year but what I learnt from him was that you have to be optimistic about everything. He always did something or the other rather than just sitting at home doing nothing and getting more ill. He stayed in touch with friends and continued with voluntary work and enjoyed his time till the end. He personally told me that these sorts of things actually helped him and I think that time flies too fast and we will not be able to get this time back so its best to make the most of it. I know everyone is busy whether you are working or not, everyone has something to do however as the year starts, spend some quality time with loved ones, grandparents, parents, family members and make a resolution on taking some time off for friends and family. You may have elderly parents who you may be seeing once a week. Rather than once a week, go see them more often. These are the things that we wont regret because when people die and loved ones are lost, thats when you wish that you could go back in time. For those who have illnesses, have hope, cherish every moment and take each day as it comes. Those who are healthy look after your health and do something that will make a difference both to your life and to someone elses life. Whilst writing this article I remembered a very elderly person who has gone back to studying and has completed it even though his family said to him that he was too old to go back into education. He has actually finished his studies now and he is now teaching. When I asked him what made him go to study he said to me that life is all about learning. This taught me that whatever age you are, it is never too late to do something that you have always wanted. Take this time and opportunity to do something you have always wanted and follow your dreams.

As for me I am thinking of some new initiatives and I pray that everyone has a blessed and prosperous I learn a lot in everyday life through experience and I would like to pass these things to the readers too. new year.

Smoking rates across East Lancashire are higher than the national average and many smokers are aware of the health risks associated with this habit. However, there are many communities who traditionally use tobacco in Paan and Gutkha without realising that this can have a serious impact on oral health, as well as increasing their risk of developing life-threatening diseases such as cancer. Cultural beliefs suggest that Paan can be a remedy for common, minor ailments such as indigestion, stress and toothache and users therefore presume that the oral/smokeless tobacco used in Paan must be less harmful than smoking tobacco. However, tobacco in all its forms whether smoked as a cigarette, inhaled from a Hookah pipe or chewed in the mouth increases the users chance of developing cancers throughout the body. All tobacco is extremely addictive and harmful so it is advisable to stop or cut down tobacco use as well as ensure that children and young people are not exposed to it. The local NHS Stop Smoking Service provides free advice and support to anyone who would like to quit 01254 283370 or free on 0800 328 6297. If you do use oral/smokeless tobacco and notice any of these symptoms which have lasted for more than three weeks, you must visit your dentist or doctor: A sore or ulcer inside your mouth or your tongue A lump anywhere in your mouth or neck A red or white patch in your mouth An unexplained pain in your mouth or ear Numbness in your tongue or mouth A very sore throat or hoarse voice A persistent blocked nose

For help finding NHS dentist call: 0845 5333230.... If you would like further information or would like support in stopping please contact Peter Pendlebury at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, Health Improvement Service on this no: 01254 358026 or email: peter.pendlebury@lancashirecare.nhs.uk

On Wednesday 25th December 2013, Pendle Community Radio (PCR) remembered and celebrated Quaid-e-Azam day. Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was born on 25th December 1876 and was the founder of Pakistan. He is popularly and officially known in Pakistan as Quaid-e-Azam which means Great Leader and Baba-e-Qaum which means Father of the Nation. To celebrate Quaid-e-Azam day, Pendle Community Radio dedicated the entire day of programmes to a Cultural Day to Quaid-e-Azam. Picture on the left taken inside PCR Studios, where our guests from Blackburn are participating in a live show regarding the life and legacy of the great leader Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Two of the guests actually met Quaid-eAzam in person and they shared they experience with the listeners of Pendle Radio. They also mentioned what a great man and human being Quaid-e-Azam was. They said he loved Pakistan and the people of Pakistan and all he wanted was the best for the nation. Pendle Community Radio invited 3 distinguished and well respected guests from Blackburn. From left to right above: Mudassar Khan (80 yrs), Abdul Hameed Pracha (88 yrs) and Mazhar Hussain. Presenting the 4 hour live show was one of PCRs favourite presenters Samina Hussain who also was involved in organising the show. One of the goals of the radio station was to ensure the younger audience also participated and that they also learnt about the great leader and his vision for the future of Pakistan. We invited 3 guests to prepare speeches relating to Quaid-e-Azam and share them with the listeners of Pendle Radio. Fatima, Haniya and Aysha all took part and did a brilliant job, well done to all of you. The Pendle Community Radio Team would like to thank everyone who participated and the distinguished guests for being part of the Quaid-e-Azam show.

Pendle Community Radio is now offering local businesses the opportunity to advertise or sponsor programmes on the radio. Pendle Radio is very popular amongst the local community & is also available on the internet, as such it offers a great opportunity for businesses to advertise their products to this growing consumer demographic. The expense of advertising on other types of media can be a restrictive factor especially for smaller businesses and this is precisely where Pendle Radio can help. Ad spots can be bought by the second and as such offer great value for money. The science of advertisement suggests repetition and simplicity are the key to a good radio advert, the cost of ads on Pendle Radio means even smaller businesses can now purchase repetitive ads. Pendle Radio can also author and produce your advertisements for you. If you would like to advertise on Pendle Radio please contact us via email; info@pendleradio.org.
