Subject Biology

No of student 32

Students Ability Average

Time 9.15-10.25 am

Duration 70 mins

Topic Subtopic Aims /Goals Learning outcomes

: Chapter 6 Nutrition : 6.4 Food Digestion : Analyzing Food Digestion : At the end of the lesson, students should be able to: I. II. III. IV. State the substances required by cells to carry out metabolic processes List the basic unit of complex substances that need to be digested Draw and label the human digestive organ State and describe the functions of the digestive juices and substances that aid the process of digestion V. Explain the digestion of carbohydrates, proteins and lipids.

Pre-requisite knowledge

: Students should be already able to: State and explain the seven classes of food Know the smallest substances of carbohydrates, protein and lipid ( glucose, amino acid) Observing, identifying, classifying, comparing and contrasting

Scientific and Thinking Skills

Teaching and learning approaches :

1) Facilitating sets in the phase of set induction 2) Guided learning and expository approach in the developmental phase

Teaching aids / technology Scientific attitudes and noble values

: Whiteboard, text book, video, slide power point, projector, CD Rom : Enthusiasm in learning, appreciate the parts of body, cooperation

Lesson Beginning Time Allocation Activity Classroom Discourse Role of teaching aids/ technology

Set induction (15 minutes)

Teacher ask student to do the presentation first ( nutrient content in food : vitamins, minerals, water, dietary fibre ) 5 % Peble mark is given for the presentation.

Students do the presentation nicely since they will get the Peble marks for this. Teacher asks the group that present to prepare two questions to their friends so that their friends will pay attention. Teacher praise them for their effort to prepare the presentation and say thank you.

Manila card Values; Confidence, team work, respect.

Development Phase Time Allocation Teacher show a video animation to show what happened to the food after we eat the food. Then teacher ask some questions to the student. Teacher explains again about the video. Teacher tells student the learning outcome for todays lesson. Teacher show the students the picture of the human digestive system. Teacher explain to the students the part of the human body that involve in human digestive system Teachers question: - Claudia, what do you eat today? - Do you know what happens to the food you eat after it has been chewed and swallowed? Students answer the teachers questions. Activity Classroom Discourse Role of teaching aids/ technology

Video, projector, whiteboard, marker pen

(20 minutes)

Students take notes Teacher ask the student to: - Draw the human digestive organ - Come in front and label the human digestive organ. Video, CD Rom, whiteboard, marker pen

Teacher write on the whiteboard: Human digestive organ divide into two: Accessory organ and alimentary canal. Teachers question and also write on the whiteboard: - What are the basic unit of carbohydrates, protein and lipid)? -

Then teacher tells the student the definition of digestion. ( content 4 ) Teacher recalls back the students about class of food (carbohydrates, protein, and lipids) and their basic unit since they have

learned it in Chapter 4. Teacher tells the students that only the small substances (glucose, amino acid, fatty acid and glycerol) can absorbed by the cell body. Teacher explains to the students that vitamin and mineral are small enough to absorb by body.

Then how about vitamin and mineral? What are the simpler substances for vitamin and mineral for body to absorb?

Students take note.

2nd Development phase ( 15 minutes)

Teacher explains the digestion in the mouth, stomach, and small intestine by with the help of Biology Teaching Courseware Cd. Teacher explains and stress on the product of each digestion in each stages of human digestive system by showing the summary in the table form.

Student take note Teacher ask: a) Why our stomach is not injured due to high pH of acid in our stomach? b) Teacher tells them to be grateful and believe that God have creates all the unique creation of Human digestive system. Students write down the summary.

Values Believe in God, thanks to God, appreciate the part of the body. Tools: Biology Teaching Courseware Cd.

Lesson Ending Time Allocation Closure (5 minutes) Teacher let the student to play game in in the cd- rom. From the game, the students will actually revised what they have learnt for strengthen their knowledge Teacher carried out some evaluations. Teacher asks them to do exercise in Bioscore book for this topic. Teacher dismisses the class by saying thank you Activity Classroom Discourse Role of teaching aids/ technology

Students take note Students listen to their friends when they answer the question in the game and take note.

Teaching Courseware Cd-Rom, games, projector

Reflection: The lesson plan cannot be performed as it has been planned since student came late to class. So, the presentation was late. Not much learning outcome was achieved. Students attitudes in this class was very disappointing me. They are very difficult to control.
