A channel is a part of an automatic picking system in which the articles are stacked. In the master data administration each article is assigned to a certain channel. Name for an individually connected station. The term customer order refers to a complete order received from a customer. A customer order may be divided into several orders printed on separate order pages and assigned to a different tote each. Computer responsible for monitoring the conveying and picking system and for the control of the stations and Pemat modules. The warehouse control computer transmits the data received and processed by the host to the subordinate process computer.

Time a computer or processor needs to wait for the answer to a network query (reaction time). Light-emitting diodes are used as indicator lamps. Protocol that is automatically generated about all or certain actions of one or several users at a computer or processor. The MAC address (Medium Access Control) is the hardware address of a network card that uniquely identifies a host within a network. A MAC address consists of six bytes, usually separated by a colon (e.g. 00:A0:27:E4:55:1C). Screens are used for viewing and processing data. Menus help the user to navigate between screens. Computer output. In parallel ports several bits are transferred at the same time. Part of login. The password protects applications or programs against unauthorized access. Superior process computer. Each product is clearly defined by the product number. Additional information in the master data may e.g. include the name of the product or its last measured dimensions. The product number can be alphanumerical. When changing or deleting a product, it is important to also change barcode data and product assignments. It is not possible to delete an article as long as there is still a storage location assigned to it. It is monitored by the warehouse control computer and serves to control the station computers of stations and automats. The computer is shut down and restarted without interrupting the power supply (reboot). RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computing) is a CPU design strategy based on the insight that simplified instructions can provide higher performance. Standard twisted pair connector (Registered Jack 45). Voltage interface for a serial, asynchronous data transfer. The different voltage levels represent the information. Serves to fill totes. The products falling into the tote are distributed evenly. Point of contact between two systems which allows to compensate different characteristics during communication.

Hardware: definition of physical data (voltage level) and geometrical connection data at a transmission point, e.g. computer or processor with peripheral equipment such as monitors, printers, storage discs, etc. Software: definition of program interfaces, data (definition of the transfer format between GIS products).

Part of the working memory (Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory). Computer in/output. Peripheral devices can be connected via serial ports. During data transmission through a serial port data are transmitted bit by bit. Automat A station is an area of the conveyor system where totes are handled (e.g. stopped, read, diverted) based on logical control commands. Apart from these basic functions, stations can also have special functions, for example weight station, filling station or picking station. A 32-bit mask that defines how many bits of the Internet address are meant for addressing within a subnet. Software type Guarantees that all components of a computer work synchronously. TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) is a reliable, connection-based network protocol and part of the TCP/IP protocol family.

Standard Internet Protocol (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol). The standard Internet Protocol provides the possibility of error correction and routing control. The internet protocol (IP) defines the transfer route for the data packets. The header of the packets transmitted by TCP/IP contains a target address, which is the IP address of the computer or processor that has requested the data. The partial protocol TCP makes sure that all the transmitted bytes are correctly received. Thus, the TCP/IP is a "routing-capable" protocol. Communication option. The Telnet Protocol is a bidirectional 8 bit per byte oriented communication possibility. This is used to allow users to access the computer via the command line. Change log. USB (Universal Serial Bus) is a bus system used for connecting a computer to external devices and for exchanging data. VGA stands for a computer graphic standard that defines certain combinations of picture resolution and colors (bit depth) as well as the repetition frequency (Video Graphics Array/Video Graphics Adapter).

1.1.5.7 User Management The following table lists the users who may log in on the PCX-2.

Table 188: User management User px Password px

File system for the user "px" The file system for the "px" user is either "/home/px" or "/home/px/cvs". Which file system is applied, depends on whether there is a control via CVS (update via warehouse computer). The following table lists the different directory types.

Table 189: File system User bin cfg sub log Password Application directory. Configuration directory (px.xml). Sub-processor directory (download files for nodes or channel processors). Log listing (always "/home/px/log").

Log files Log files are generated whenever a restart is made. When the log file reaches a certain size, the current log file is renamed and a new log file is created (1Mb). A maximum of 5 old log files are kept. Every old log file gets a number attached (xxx.1 to xxx.5, 1 being the newest).

1.1.5.8 Update Files are stored by means of FTP, kermit or windows commander. Configuration file In order to save a new configuration file on the PCX2, the current file has to be replaced by the new file. If the directory is checked via CVS, the command "cvs commit" must be entered after the file has been overwritten. The configuration is updated the next time the PCX-2 is started. Program To save a new program on the PCX-2, the old program must be renamed by entering the "mv" command (mv px px.save). Afterwards, you can save the new version. After a restart, the renamed file can be deleted . If the directory is checked via CVS, the version has to be saved by entering the command "cvs commit". Otherwise the program is overwritten by the version stored on the RISC during the next start. Afterwards, the PCX-2 has to be rebooted: (menu item > /Software/Reboot). Sub-processors A new file is copied by means of FTP or windows commander and saved with the command "cvs commit". If the file was not installed yet, it has to be added to the CVS by "cvs add filename" before the command "cvs commit" is carried out.

Module types (system component) The following module types are available:

Stopper: Halts the transport unit on the conveyor. Ejector: Pushes the transport unit onto another conveyor. Accumulation roller conveyor: Serves as zero-pressure conveyor for transport units. The rollers are controlled to ensure that a gap between transport units is always maintained in case the transport units stop - preventing them from touching each other. Accumulation: Halting or stopped flow of transport units. Sensors provide information whether a section of the conveyor is free or occupied.
