INTERNSHIP GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS 1.0 INTRODUCTION The internship programme is intended to enable students acquire skills in practical application of knowledge acquired during their period of study. The students are expected to acquire skills in at least one of the following areas of computing: Computer Network Installation, aintenance and !dministration. Computer "oftware #e$elopment. Computer aintenance and %epair. The programme lasts a minimum of & weeks. "tudents are additionally expected to use the field experience to de$elop ideas for their third year pro'ects. (ro'ect proposal will be expected within ) months of the * st semester of the +rd year OBJECTIVES OF THE INTERNSHIP The following ob'ecti$es are expected to be achie$ed in the following areas: A: Comp !"# N"!$o#% I&'!())(!*o&+ M(*&!"&(&," (&- A-m*&*'!#(!*o& "tudents should be able to:, Identify network components. Install and configure operating systems and de$ice dri$ers. %epair common hardware components like power supply systems, printers !ssemble and upgrade computers. (erform maintenance and repair documentation tasks. 0.0 MANAGEMENT OF THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME The programme is managed by the 0ead of #epartment -Computer "cience., assisted by the staff of the department. The head will in con'unction with the #ean of the 1aculty of "cience arrange for acquisition of resources for facilitating the internship programme and allocation of super$isors for the students. "tudents are required to obtain introductory letters from the #epartment with which to approach any organi/ation that pro$ides or uses Information and Communication Technology facilities. "tudents will be required to deli$er acceptance letters or notes from their placement organi/ations to ensure proper records keeping. SUPERVISION 2ach internee will be allocated a super$isor who will be responsible for ensuring that the internee attains the ob'ecti$es of the programme. "uper$isors will be pro$ided with facilitation to enable them tra$el and access the students at their areas of placement. !n allowance will also be catered for. The following acti$ities will be expected of the super$isor: 3btaining facilitation from the #ean of the 1aculty of "cience 4ocating and contacting the internees at their placement areas. 2$aluating placement areas for suitability and recommending any changes if need arises. !d$ising students on the expectations of the exercise. #iscussing with workplace super$isors about internee performance. 5uiding the internee in scripting the final internship report.

REPORTING "tudents will be expected to de$elop an internship report at the end of the programme. The report is expected to follow a standard format -"ee internship report format below.. The report is expected to be *6,*7 pages in si/e. "tudents will also be gi$en standard copies of daily work logs -records. for ensuring proper records keeping and final report compilation. The logs are to be signed by the work super$isor and attached to the report. The acti$ity log will contain the date, acti$ity, description, and skills acquired.

INTERNSHIP REPORT FORMAT INTRODUCTION #escribe the company with whom your internship 8 attachment was carried out and the background to your in$ol$ement with this company, including the location of the facility at which the work was done. #escribe your position and the basic computing areas in which you worked for your internship.
