Information Sheet

ABOUT THE CERTIFICATE IV IN ADULT TERTIARY PREPARATION

The Queensland Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation (CATP) program offers comparable Year 12 level subjects for adult learners wishing to gain tertiary admission. From 2008, students must successfully complete 10 modules (the majority of which must be completed subjects, including the subject Language and Learning Skills), in order to be awarded the Queensland CATP. Each subject may comprise of 2 or 3 modules. Students may complete the entire program or choose to partially complete the certificate. Studies are offered through TAFE Queensland as well as some private providers (e.g. Hubbards School), and can be studied on-campus or via distance education.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
For entry to all undergraduate programs at The University of Queensland (UQ) applicants must meet two basic entry requirements: 1. Eligibility (i.e. satisfy the subject prerequisites and other requirements) 2. Merit (i.e. possess an entry rank high enough for a place in the program)
Entry ranks range from 1 to 99 (maximum). As admission is competitive the entry rank cut-offs for programs can fluctuate from year to year.

For detailed program information, including prerequisite requirements and entry rank cut-offs from previous admission periods, please refer to the Universitys Undergraduate Prospectus for Australian Students or website: www.uq.edu.au/study.

GAINING AN ENTRY RANK

To be eligible to receive an entry rank applicants must complete the entire CATP program. UQ does not accept a partially completed CATP for the allocation of entry ranks. However, subjects from a partially completed CATP can be used for the purpose of meeting subject prerequisites. Prior to 2008, students were required to complete five subjects, including the subject Language and Learning Skills, in order to be awarded the Queensland CATP. Entry ranks for completed pre-2008 CATP studies are calculated from the grade average in 5 subjects (including the subject Language and Learning Skills). For CATP studies since 2008, students must complete at least 10 modules to complete the program and entry ranks are derived from all modules attempted. Please note, an entry rank may be solely assigned to the grade average of the subjects/ modules completed, or combined with a result from the Special Tertiary Admissions Test. Where module weightings are provided, these will be used in the calculation of a GPA. Where module weightings are not provided all modules will be assumed to have equal weighting. Where an applicant has studied more than ten modules in the Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation, only the best ten eligible award modules will be used in the derivation of a rank. Where the same module has been attempted on more than one occasion, only one attempt will be considered in the calculation of a rank, and this will be the best result received.
