II. III. IV. Explain the adaptive characteristic of the digestive system related to absorption Draw and label the structure of a villus Explain the process of absorption in the villus Explain the main functions of the liver and describe the process of assimilation

Pre-requisite knowledge

: Students should be already able to: Explain the human digestive system Identify the parts of the digestive system in human

Scientific and Thinking Skills

: Observing, identifying, classifying, analyzing, comparing and contrasting

Teaching and learning approaches : 1) Facilitating sets and motivating sets in the phase of set induction 2) Guided learning and expository approach in the developmental phase Teaching aids / technology : Whiteboard, text book, slide power point, projector, CD Rom, mahjong paper

Scientific attitudes and noble values : Enthusiasm in learning, dare to try, explore and appreciate the parts of digestive system, cooperation.

Lesson Beginning Time allocation (5 minutes) Facilitating Set Teacher recalls back the students about human digestive system which started from mouth and end with anus. Then teacher asks students several questions about nutrient absorption. Teachers questions: - What are the substances that can only absorb by body cell, Anantha? - After has been digested and get these product, what the next process will occur, Chung Ren? - Then, where the absorption will occur, Sivagami Students answer the teachers question . Slide power point, whiteboard, marker pen Activity Classroom Discourse Role of teaching aids/ technology

Motivating Set Teacher show the pictures of oesophagus and small intestine Teacher ask the students several questions.

Teachers questions: - These picture show you the oesophagus and the small intestine ( ileum). What are the differences that you can identify from these picture, Aravin? Students give their answer and

discuss by the teacher

Development Phase Time allocation (20 minutes) Teacher tells the students that small intestine has their adaptations to absorb food. Teacher show a focus picture of small intestine. Then teacher explain the physical characteristic of small intestine and discuss with the students the adaptations of the small intestine. Teacher explain the process of absorption by the small intestine and what the substances that involves. Students take notes Activity Classroom Discourse Role of teaching aids/ technology Slide power point, mahjong paper, whiteboard, marker pen

Teacher explain by using diagram and mind map Students take notes

Teacher show the animation to the students on how the process of

CD Rom, whiteboard,

absorption occur. Teacher tells the students that the need to focus on their lesson because they will carry out the activity group on how to draw a villus and the explanation about the villus.

markerpen Teacher says: - After this you will carry out a group activity on how to draw the villus and you need to explain. - You will be evaluated and the best group will be rewarded today.

Then, teacher asks question to the students. Teacher explain about assimilation of digested food and the function of liver. Teacher explain by using mind map and diagram

Teachers question: - After has been absorb, where this nutrient go? Students give various answer

(22 minutes)

Teacher divided the students into six group. Teacher asks for each group to draw and label the structure of villus in 7 minutes. They also need to present in front of the class in 2 minutes. The best presentation will be rewarded. Now, teacher show the puzzle in front of the class. Teacher tells the students, for those can answer the puzzle will get 3 merit. From the game, the students will actually revised what they have learnt for strengthen their knowledge.
