SIMPLEX RF TRANSDUCER

The continuous measurement of massecuite properties during pan boiling has been accomplished by various technologies over the past 30 years. The Simplex system uses a simple analogue method of measurement and results in a reliable measurement. The Simplex transducer uses the same robust probe design which was developed for use with the more complex Reflex brix measurement system. The mA output from the Simplex transducer is primarily proportional to the massecuite consistency but is also slightly affected by temperature, and purity of the massecuite. Since the purity normally only changes gradually and all continuous vacuum pans and most batch pans have vacuum control the effect of temperature is normally very repeatable for each boiling. Therefore, the effects of temperature and purity changes can be ignored for practical purposes in raw sugar boilings. The Simplex transducer can be used in all boiling applications up to around 96% purity.

SPECIFICATION SIMPLEX TRANSDUCER Power Supply Output Signal Environmental Protection Mounting Distance to probe Dimensions Massecuite Purity Approvals 22 to 28V d.c. (24V d.c. nominal) 4 to 20mA (two-wire transmitter) into a maximum external resistance of 500. Maximum output signal is limited to 23.5mA. Case protection to IP65, maximum operating temperature 60C at 95% RH. On 2 vertical or horizontal pipe (stainless steel brackets and bolts provided). A 0.75m co-axial cable is provided as standard. This distance is critical and must not be changed. 120 x 122 x 80mm (excluding mounting bracket). Up to 95% massecuite purity. CE mark in compliance with the EMC directive 89/336/EEC in accordance with EN55022:1987 & BS6527:1988.

REFLEX RF TRANSDUCER
The Reflex RF transducer was developed after extensive research into radio frequency behaviour in high purity sugar massecuite. Using direct digital analysis the behaviour at the probe tip was analysed and reliable signals noted. Normally background noise and signal losses render measurement of these signals useless. Cooknell Electronics Ltd. developed innovative techniques to enable the signals to be electronically processed without degradation. The Reflex transducer can be used in massecuite of up to 99.5% purity.

SPECIFICATION Power Supply 18 to 30V d.c. (24V d.c. nominal) at 90mA with both outputs at 20mA. Note:- The supply negative is earthed at the transducer. 2x 4 to 20mA (four-wire transmitter) into a maximum external resistance of 750 for each channel. Maximum output signal is limited to 24mA nominal, to prevent overloading of external circuits. The two outputs are non-isolated. Case protection to IP65, maximum operating temperature 60C at 95% RH. On 2 vertical or horizontal pipe (stainless steel brackets and bolts provided). Fixed 0.5m long co-axial cable is provided. This distance is critical and must not be changed. 220 x 122 x 80mm (excluding mounting bracket, cable glands and RF connector). Up to 99.5% massecuite purity. CE mark in compliance with the EMC directive 89/336/EEC in accordance with EN55022:1987 & BS6527:1988.

REFLEX/SIMPLEX PROBES
The same probes are used for both types of RF transmitters. Materials of construction in contact with the process = 316 stainless steel and PTFE. High quality materials and precision machining for reliably.

SPECIFICATION Screwed Version: Insertion Length 231mm for batch pan use. Other lengths to order Process Connection 1 BSP taper thread (supplied with weld in socket). Antenna is provided with 1AF faces for installation. The mounting thread has been deliberately machined to be slightly smaller diameter than a standard taper thread to allow for additional thread engagement. Quick Release Version: Insertion Length 348mm for continuous pan use. Other lengths to order Process Connection Push fit into quick release adaptor a 254mm long mounting handle is included in the antenna design. A knurled locking screw is provided with the mounting adapter to ensure secure fitment

MILL CHUTE LEVEL TRANSMITTER MCL-II

The MCL-II mill chute level transmitter operates by measuring the conductivity between 6 specially designed stainless steel electrodes and the mill chute metalwork. The electrodes are mounted on insulating material such as Plexiglas windows in the side or rear of the mill chute. When the electrodes are covered by cane the resistance to the chute metalwork will be reduced. The electronic circuit senses the resistance changes and operates 6 local LEDs accordingly. The analogue output is ramped to give an appropriate output between 4 and 20mA according to the number of electrodes covered by cane. The independent operating mode is normally used in the first mill where the occasional presence of cane sticks may cause voids in the feeding mat in the mill chute. The gated operating mode is normally used for all successive mills where voids are unlikely to occur. Where high imbibition rates are used, liquid running down the faces of the chute can cause false level indication. Optional PTFE electrode spacers are available to divert the liquid around the electrodes and considerably increase the reliability. The electrode spacers are recommended for all except the first mill chute in a tandem.
