In 2012, the blockbuster hit, Hunger Games was released to a spellbound audience, who hungered for a different type of heroin. If there were ever a movie that defined depth of character, this film fits the bill. Lead character, 16 year old, Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence, resides in a town where food and comfort are scarce. And, as if that werent enough, she feels compelled to take her little sisters place in a mandatory kill or be killed game that is televised as sports-like entertainment. In perfectly timed progression, we watch the dauntless character emerge as she throws herself into the custody of those collecting the opponents It is plain to see that she is no longer her own, but has become the incorporation of what lies ahead. BANK
As we stand in line at 'The Bank' ready to cash in our Wilderness for our Walk across the Jordan, we can barely comprehend the exchange taking place.
A separation from the old pattern of doing things, somehow integrates with the new way, of how things will be done. It is a place of eager anticipation, release and acceptance. For even if we can't swim, there is the longing to jump into our Jordan and somehow navigate to the other side. But down deep, grafted in our spirits is the lesson of The Wilderness The reminder that mere emotions can lead us astray. Reminding us that it is the road map of the Word that keeps us purposefilled, focused and on track. It was the re-shaping of our will that has brought us to this crossover, called The Bank. It is at The Bank where transactions of pain-staking investment, heart breaking sacrifice and purpose rendering pressures are cashed in for The Promises of God. It is here, we remember our Deuteronomy 29:5 testimony of somehow, always having shoes, clothes, lights, gas, and transportation that never got old, went off and seemed to make it. When you put the pedal to the metal of your mind, you realized the average man/woman would not even be standing here, had not GOD kept them. Now, there is a multitude behind us and the possibility of drowning, before us... With non-negotiable convictions we realize that it isnt our ability to walk, that will carry us across. No, it is observation of, and obedience to the voice we have been hearing over our 40 year old journey. It is the word written, prophesied, and engrafted that will cause the flow of our doubts, worries and fears to part, as we step across This is M. Old Fashioned Beef Stew ~ To keep you warm this winter.

This is a very basic beef stew. Its easy, delicious and inexpensive to make. While there are hundreds of variations of this traditional recipe, its hard to improve on this versions savory and comforting goodness. Serves: 12 Prep Time: 30 minutes Cook Time: 1 hour, 30 minute Total Time: 2 hours Ingredients: 3 lbs boneless chuck roast, cut into 2-inch pieces 3 tbsp vegetable oil 2 tsp salt 1 tbsp freshly ground pepper 2 yellow onions, cut into 1-inch chunks 1/4 cup flour 3 cloves garlic, minced 1 cup red wine 3 cups beef broth 1/2 tsp dried rosemary 1 bay leaf 1/2 tsp dried thyme 4 carrots, peeled, cut into 1-inch slices 2 stalks celery, cut into 1-inch slices 3 large russet potatoes, peeled and cut in eighths fresh parsley to garnish (optional)
Preparation: On medium-high heat, add the vegetable oil to a large heavy pot (one that has a tight fitting lid). When it begins to smoke slightly, add the beef and brown very well. Do in batches if necessary. Add the salt and pepper as the beef browns. Once browned, remove the beef with a slotted spoon set aside. Add the onions and saut for about 5 minutes, until softened. Reduce heat to medium-low, and add the flour and cook for 2 minutes stirring often. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute. Add wine and deglaze the pan, scraping any brown bits stuck to the bottom of the pan. The flour will start to thicken the wine as it comes to a simmer. Simmer wine for 5 minutes, and then add the broth, bay leaves, thyme, rosemary, and the beef. Bring back to a gentle simmer, cover and cook on very low for about 1 hour. Add potatoes, carrots, and celery, and simmer covered for another 30 minutes or until the meat and vegetables are tender. Taste and adjust seasoning. Turn off heat and let sit for 15 minutes before serving. Garnish with the fresh parsley if desired. This is best made the day before if possible, for even better flavor. About.com American Food 10

Underneath the sincere humbleness of his thank you-s and heart-felt appreciations, lies a pipeline of confidence-strengthintegrity, and know-how. It is also safe to surmise that Alvin Malcolm Daniels is a full-fledged activist infused with God-vision that moves in the now! When most people are talking a good game- Alvin Daniels actually delves in and plays! The Chicago native is a twenty eight year veteran of film and media production, with a Masters Degree in Education from Robert Morris University and a Bachelors Degree in Communications from Boston University. He is the author of three books: Hallelujah, God is in control and There's No Substitute For A Foot Stomping, Home Cooking, God Fearing Mother Like Mine and God Said It, I Believe It and That's Enough. In addition to this list of achievements, we will add the Congressional Medal of Honor, received by Alvin in his second year of college. He received the medal in recognition of his writing, public speaking and community service efforts. Mr. Daniels points out that he is the first college athlete to have ever received such an honor. Early on, while working at Chicago State University, Alvin was invited to accompany a team of educators from The International States Program, on an assignment to South Africa. His job as film maker, was to document the journey. After four trips, the journey finally yielded an award winning documentary, entitled, Bridging the Education Divide. At present, the visionary and owner of Halsted Media Works can proudly lay claim to a wide range of completed projects, and some very special ones, that are feverishly in the making. A fine example would be his new stage play, A Mans Gotta Do What A Mans Gotta Do which debuted November 2013 to a standing-roomonly crowd and will return February 8th and 9th, 2014. What makes finite the summation of Alvins gifts and talents, is his passion found in developing the vision and media skill of others. He is a seasoned professional with a hands-on touch that causes visionaries to seek him out.. However, at his nucleus, and to his credit is the spirit of a die-hard Christian, whose roots are planted not only in the church house, but in good solid ministry. He is the Grandson of powerful minister, Reverend, Dr. H. B. Brady and son of Reverend, Dr. Princella Brady Lee of Victory Cathedral Faith Church .
Before even speaking with the creator of the acclaimed stage play, Preachers Kids: The Untold Stories, his accolades and accomplishments weighed heavily on my palate. There were so many layers to explore, I didnt quite know how to approach the man, or the article. And then The Holy Spirit reminded me that, its all about purpose. Mr. Daniels is not just some list of cosmetic
achievements-He is a man rooted in purpose and grounded in the love of a focused mission. Wrapped within the folds of his legacy is the priceless mentoring of his grandfathers sermons, and his dads rich advice. Perhaps these morsels are what transitioned him from majoring in business to mastering communications. Never the less, it is quite evident that Alvin Malcolm Daniels, loves what he does,

Finally done playing phone tag, Alvin Daniels and I connected for what was to be an interesting interview He was more than ready to share his story, or at the risk of sounding mellow dramatic-his journey with COOTW E Magazine. Needless to say, I was all ears. Alvin Malcolm Daniels- After I graduated, He said in an easy tone, I came back to Chicago, where I started working at Daily College for WYCC-Channel 20. At the same time, my granddad had this huge building over on 83rd and Halsted I mean, just a big empty building with buses and grease and rats and He pauses. Just a bunch of old stuff in there. And he said, Hey, make something happen! So I called two of my partners. One went to Northwestern and one went to Alabama State University One was an actor-The other was in audio, and Im the TV guy And we just started producing things from commercials to short films to rap videos to TV shows.. Halsted Media Works, Inc. was born. COOTW- I understand that you are a professor as well. Alvin Malcolm Daniels- .Yes-during that time, I began to develop a love for teaching what I did. So I packaged what I did as a ten week course that I could teach anywhere. The course was called Exploring The Media Experience. Where I would go into foundations and different schools and teach young people the craft of filmmaking. COOTW- Wow! Thats pretty amazing! But whats most impressive to me about everything you just said, is that when you graduated, you said, and I quote, I just did it! You just did itactually owned who you were as a film maker-as a teacher and you dived in and did it! Alvin Malcolm Daniels-Its interesting -his voice rising to a new level of recollection. that you would say that, because with my last play in motion (Preachers Kids: The Untold Stories), I had already started on my next piece and I was going through a serious illness. I know Im jumping ahead. COOTW- Thats ok Alvin Malcolm Daniels- People were like, hey man, dont you wanna rest? And I was like, hey, tomorrows not promised While God gives me life in my body, Im going to use every minute to do what I do-because when I do what I do, I dont feel pain, I dont feel anger, I dont feel any negative vibe-Its all positive. And I think thats what I try to impress upon students as I teach at Chicago State- Find your passion-He says with a rising conviction!. My dad always said, If you love your work, youll never work a day in your life I think thats what I do I love my work, so I never work a day in my life. And I thinks thats all a part of a -its gotta be done now- mentality, because tomorrow is not promised. ..And its not that youre rushing what youre doing; its saying hey God, thank you for this gift. Im not going to waste time haggling with people Theres an old saying, that too many chefs spoil the meal

Im sure doing that with your e magazine-if you went to five or six different people and said, hey, what do you think about me doing this or that everybody is going to give you a different reason of why you shouldnt! COOTW- Yes, you are right! Alvin Malcolm Daniels- So you have to find your conviction and rock and roll with it! Thats what Ive always done I dont call it haste-I call it not wasting time. Time is the most important commodity that you have. You can make some more kids, you can make some more money-but you cant make no more time!
Alvin Malcolm DanielsEvery once in a while, my mom (Reverend Princella Brady Lee) has me bring the message, and on yesterday the message was, I owe God a praise. Because we owe Him a debt, and in owing that debt, we will never pay that debt The only thing that He requires is that we witness to people about His goodness and that we praise Him.... For everything that I have, I owe Him praise.

Now my mothers a minister, my dad was a minister, I have uncles who are ministers So theres ministry all around me. And I do feel like Im a minister, but Im not called into the formal ministry of being a pastor- but I do feel like I am a minister and my ministry is my media Many people might see a movie, they might see a play, but they might not ever go to church, but if theres some message I can give them in some piece of media that Ive done then I feel that my living is not in vain

Now, although your parents have played a huge role in who you are professionally and the ministry you express, how would you say your message at large, differs from theirs and why? Alvin Malcolm Daniels- Growing up, we were taught, religion is everything My uncle used to tell my granddad that, I cant go to church, I have homework. And my granddad would reply, Bring your homework to church. So thats all that life centered around, was church. So the biggest difference is that I was able to get away and see a different way of living-So I dont look at religion as being dogmatic-I look at it as being a large component of life-But I feel like you have to have a balance and its ok to do other things outside of going to church. So I think that that is the biggest difference, that you really need a balance in life And that theres a difference in religion and spirituality. Religion can be very dogmatic in that it dictates right or wrong-true or false-this is the way it is Spirituality is a way of living and connecting with your source, your spirit (the man upstairs) who will lead you and guide 16 We Are Ministry In A Magazine Alvin Malcolm Daniels- As a preachers kid, one of my greatest experiences was to go away to school- I saw a whole nother world out there. His voice seeming to trail off in the memory And that world told me, Its ok to do other things. Your foundation wont allow you to go too far away from where you need to go-I dont think it makes me a black sheep-It makes me Alvin And Im ok with that.. Im at peace with that.

humor in the church. And I mean, quite often, without the humor, I would of gone crazy by this point COOTW- Wow I believe this will be so poignant for so many people. Alvin Malcolm DanielsThats why I bring in characters like, Deacon Pray Too Long- based on a guy named Brother Curtis, at my grandfathers church- And when I say this guy would literally talk to God on Sunday, like he hadnt talked to God all week. COOTW- Laughing Alvin Malcolm Daniels- I mean that! This guy would go at it! But theres humor in that, he says with a resonating chime. Im not poking fun at him, thats just who he was! Sister Elway was Sister Tell It All. Shed tell all your business- but you didnt hear it from her! And my latest character is Sister Off Keys Everyone knows Sister Off Keys. She sings in a key only Jesus can understand! COOTW- I am dying laughing Alvin Malcolm DanielsEverybody knows her! COOTW- At this point, I am an Alvin Malcolm Daniels fan because of his ability to keep it real and relate to the average man. However, we must continue... Is it important to you that people be able to look at these intense scenarios in The Preachers Kids: The Untold Stories, and share in your humor? Or, more to the point is it important to you that people be able to see outside of the spiritual intensity that goes on in church? Alvin Malcolm Daniels- Oh yeah! The bible says that laughter is merriment for the soul. And I think that some people are just so dogmatic and into being rigid and serious-in such a way, they miss out on life. And I think what I try to do with Preachers Kids: The Untold Stories, is show that theres seriousness but theres also

A Call To Supernatural Wholeness

The GOD we serve is unlimited and lacks nothing! His very nature is one of wholeness and completion. When you stop to think about the intricate pattern of our physical form, and how it lacks nothing in sufficiency, you get a glimpse of how poetically brilliant GOD truly is. We are GODS spiritual vehicle's in motion that lack no good thing in Christ! Why would GOD deposit HIS spirit inside a vessel that lacks restorative capabilities? Everything about GOD is alive. HIS very breath, IS LIFE! The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life. New International Version (1984) Job 33:4 If the very dust/ molecular structures/Adams of the earth had capacity to heed the voice of GOD, to form human vessels and unwrap the elements... Is the same dust not capable of hearing HIS voice NOW?! ...speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed... Matthew 8:8 FOR... Jesus Christ-(THE WORD-THE CALL) is the same yesterday and today and forever... Hebrews 13:8 Our body is CALLED to life and with every birth and rebirth, we respond physically and spiritually. The gulf between THE CALL and The Response, is our ability to receive the truth that our very body is intimate with GOD and knows HIS CALL. Our bodies are a structured testament of our very cells being alive and cognizant of GOD. If not so, how could the laying on of hands, be of any effect? How could the dead arise when JESUS called out, WITH A LOUD VOICE? It is because the rich life of GOD in us hears THE CALL of OUR FATHER The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life. New International Version (1984) Job 33:4 But we have this wealth in vessels of earth, so that it may be seen that the power comes not from us but from God; Corinthians 4:7

I look at a near empty building as the last congregants leave the sanctuary. The preaching has stopped. Hugs and handshakes and even some tears have congratulated me for simply opening my mouth and allowing the Lord to speak to His people. I can still hear the organ and drums in my spirit from over an hour ago. I sit back in my chair now getting soaked as my wet robe reflects the profusely dripped sweat of mere moments earlier. My chest still beats accelerated from its normal rhythm. My hands are now clammy as I grip my bible and moist towel. Its almost quiet now and the deafening silence accentuates my mood as my body starts to slow down. The Holy Ghost had been in complete control throughout the worship service. There had been a complete Holy Ghost take-over of my person for the last hour or so. Souls were saved, reclaimed, delivered while illnesses had been rebuked and bodies were healed Encouragement and empowerment had prevailed through the Blood of Jesus during the alter service. Now the preaching had stopped and He has given me back to me, temporarily or so I wearily think. I go to my study and plop into my leather swivel recliner. I reach for several more dry towels as I begin to remove my robe. I could turn on some soft music but that will come later as will food and much need water and juice. I feel my human physical weakness slowly increase. I hear the silence calling me into a deep inner reflection. I hear and I obey. The Lord whispers, "I have blessed you in this time and season to bless others"....I get up and practically stumble to the mirror. I look at the beads of sweat still nesting on my forehead. I look at the salt and pepper beard and wavy but thinning and graying hair. I look frail and haggard. The preaching has stopped. I shake my head and marvel. I marvel at how the Lord can take such an imperfect creature and perform a perfect work. I wonder as tears well in my eyes how can He take a man with so many personal issues and reach the masses with a powerful and anointed message of love and faith. I wonder again and again until I finally wonder...Why me? What had I done to merit this great sober and important task? I was full of questions because the preaching had stopped and I am what is left. The Word in me has settled in me and waits again for the unction of the Holy Ghost to come out of this lowly spirit. Whispers of "Thank you Lord" flow out of my heart and my mouth, eventually as I dry 21 We Are Ministry In A Magazine
off. I dress and wrap my soggy clothes in plastic. I put my bible in my brief case and pause for a surge of strength to finish what I'm doing. The preaching has stopped and a few people wait outside the edifice for me. I straighten out a few things on my desk. I glance at the awards, certificates, and diplomas that line the wall. I consider them to be more decoration than anything useful. My eyes target an old second hand picture that one of my deaconesses got me for my birthday. It portrays a storm tossed ship with dark clouds and pummeling rain... That picture is my life because storm after storm I yet continue to brave the waters and navigating the course of the life that has been given me. I have taken on water and have needed damage control many times and yet I'm seaworthy. There are newer and fresher vessels in God's fleet but He hasn't decommissioned me yet. I utter a "thank you Jesus". I am barely able to pick up my briefcase and bag of clothes. I turn in the doorway hunting for my keys to lock my office. Jesus whispers, "I will always be the Captain of your soul." He is already building on the next sermon. I guess the preaching never stops

Coming Out Of The Wilderness E Magazine for The Content of Character January/February 2014 is a spirit that practices the All Witches Witchcraft religion of usury, manipulation, control, and dominion. It operates through men, women and children, indiscriminately, at an emotional (or soul-ish) level. The seed of its conception is rebellion against Gods order and authority. It also has a full, working knowledge of Gods unfailing principles and how they operate- such as how faith (undeviating focus/belief, meditations and repetitions) must produce results! It knows that through the supernatural (unseen things or the spirit realm), the natural laws (or course) of the universe can be bent. To me, to live in this generation and only to KNOW about it is very scary and awkward for both races. For Example: Black Teens tend to feel awkward when another person of a different race clutches his/her bag. *This is basically pointing out that they are judging the African American teen as another statistic. What I've witnessed, White Teens tend to feel scared when African Americans are being rude or teasing them because of what happened in the past. *African American Teens are Basically Blaming this generation of white teens for something that they did not do nor witness. I'm not saying that these events happens all the time but it still happens at least 2 out of 10 times. There are still states in the United States that African Americans are afraid to go, because of the high rate of racism that's still there
When the word racism hits my ears, I automatically think, separation Being judged not by your personality; not by your works, but by the color, shaded on your skin. Racism to me is where the opposite race acts as if theyve known you for a while, and now they look down on you, or at you, only with a simple glance. Racism carries with it a pocket full of mental and physical bullying. Sometimes, I really like to believe its our media brainwashing us Like how they exaggerate about how certain races act. And this strongly impresses our society. Some people find it funny to watch. I once experienced racism when my friends and I were downtown. There were about twelve of us-We were walking along a bridge, causing no disruption to anyone, when we noticed a couple of another race, not too far away. The boyfriend pushed his girlfriend in front of him as if he were trying to protect her. And then they quickly strolled away. In their minds, they thought we were trying to harm them
Racism to me, is when I see someone disrespecting someone else because they are a different race. I sometimes see people look at someone else as if they are contagious-All because they are a different color. I see everyone as the same, because thats how God made them. I cant get jealous or mad at someone because they dont look like me. I dont think its right to dislike a person because of their skin color. One time I experienced racism when I was at the movie theater. When I was at the theater, I sat next to a woman who was of a different race than me. When I sat next to her she glanced at me and then began leaning in the opposite direction. After a while she decided to switch sears with her daughter for the rest of the movie. I felt it was unnecessary for her to do what she did

What Does Racism Means To You? And have you ever had a personal experience with Racism? Cont.
Racism is a learned behavior by different ethnicities toward others. Racism is when someone is judged by the color of their skin or religion. You judge because of the stories youve heard, movies youve seen, or simply, because you are taught to hate. I believe racism rooted from the time of Christ, but escalated during the time of slavery. The blacks were spat on, beaten, raped, hung, and brutally tortured-because we were considered dirty, unworthy, and a disgrace to humanity. Even if an African American was qualified, decent, and well presented, they are still considered animals to racist people. I can remember a time when I went downtown for an interview at a shoe store. I was well groomed from head to toe. I had the knowledge and skills to do the job-I arrived at the interview thirty minutes early. I let the representative know who I was and why I was there. He didnt look pleased at all. I suppose my looks didnt match the voice from the phone. I was told to kill some time until my interview. I did, but I came back ten minutes early and decided to just wait. When I got there, a young lady (white) sat next to me and the Rep asked her was she there for an interview, and then he politely told her to follow him, and she was taken to the back .Fifteen minutes went by and she came out with a look of splendor on her face and he had the same expression. By that time I was boiling and wanted to act out. But I didnt. I stayed to complete the reason I was there. More people started to come in. And there were a few of my same race and I began to feel more at ease. We were all taken, (as a group) into a small office to be interviewed. I felt that that was unfair, but it was a way for them to kill eight birds with one stone. We were asked questions like, Why do you think you should be chosen? And How did you hear about us? We all answered the questions but the majority of the non-colored were asked more personal questions, like-Whats your experience? Whats your highest level of education? At that moment, I knew the people who were targeted. I was told, Thanks for coming and to wait for a call. A call that I never received. I felt that it was unfair-but expected

Although my situation was sad in itself, I feel that as if we as a race (and other races that are targeted) come together in prayer to strip the spirit of hatred and judgment from the earth. I feel that only God can do that, but we have to want the change
