Diagnostic Assess students comprehension of the text.

Students will label and describe the monster from the story.

Label Describe

Discuss Brainstorm on the board word that can describe monsters. (What do monsters look like, feel like or smell like?) Label - Demonstrate how to label different parts of the monster on the worksheet using these words. Have students label the monster on their worksheets and write a sentence to describe their monster. Students who finish early can colour in their monster or write more than one sentence about their monster. Students who need more help can use labels with words already written onto them.

Diagnostic Assess if students can use adjectives to correctly describe a monster.

Students will design their own monsters.

Design

Design students will be shown how to draw arms, legs, head and a body for a monster. They will then cut these out, attach them together with brads and then decorate their monsters. Students will take photos of their monsters for use in later lessons. Templates can be given to students who are struggling.
