Council Woman Dorothy L. Goosby Town Hall Plaza, Hempstead, NY 11550

Dear Council Woman Goodsby, This letter is about my telephone conversation with your secretary Victoria on August 17, 2012 regarding the poor treatment I have received at the Roosevelt Fire Department. On December 19, 2011, I received a letter from Captain Judy Miller; dated December 4th 2011 (enclosed) stating that I failed in attendance. When I tried contacting Ms. Miller, she was unavailable, so I hand delivered my response, faxed and sent another copy by mail. All of these communications were ignored. I continued to report to the Fire Department and tend to my chores, On January 15th I was approached by Chief Pitts and told to leave the Fire Department because of my attendance; he uttered Your Out! I feel that the action to remove me began when I completed my Hazmat training. I believe that I am the only member there that has completed Hazmat training because it is a very difficult course to pass. I did not receive any congrats from any of my fellow fire fighters once I successful completed and passed the course. They began not speaking to me very much and later I was denied any additional fire training courses. I was viewed at too ambitious. At the time, I was also attending Fordham University, and taking EMT training as well when I passed Hazmat. I informed Captain Judy Miller what I was doing. I believe that they did not give me credit for the nights that I spend in class during Hazmat training at all. Prior to completing Hazmat, I received certificates in the following courses: Department Operations, Essentials of Truck, Essentials of Firefighting, Primary Training, and as I previous mentioned Hazardous Materials Operations, please see the attached transcript from the Bethpage Fire Academy. The tax payers of Roosevelt paid or the State of New York paid quite a bit of money for my training to allow an arrogant Chief to just toss me away like a play thing.

Council Woman Dorothy L. Goosby, I surely need your help in resolving this matter. I wish to retroactively be reinstated into the Roosevelt Fire Department immediately so that I can help and inspire others. Though I have been mistreated in every way imaginable, I remain upbeat and positive. I was encouraged to contact you first prior to carrying my complaint to the media, because they say you are an honest and noble Council woman who is not afraid to challenge the status quo. Everyone has assured me that you can straighten this matter out in a favorable manner. Please understand Council Woman Goosby, I am not trying to paint the Roosevelt Fire Department as an horrible Fire Department but the callous attitudes and indifference there must somehow be addressed. The Roosevelt Volunteer Fire Department belongs to the people of Roosevelt, and not to group individuals who possess a Boys Club mentality. The conduct of Chief Pitts is a blatant violation of the community trust as well as a misuse of the pecuniary resources of the community of Roosevelt by missing a trained ambitious individual as me. Also Council Woman Goosby, I believe that the EMT unit there should be examined to determine if they are medically trained and EMT certifications are in order to save lives in our community. I am eager to meet with you in person, to discuss the matter in detail whenever you are available. I hope that you will respond soon. Please take a moment to review all attached document to this letter.

Sincerely, Leneau Crawford, Jr. 646-750-0077
